yes, I forgot to post yesterday. I spoke with the recruiter first thing in the am, expressed my concerns about not having a salary range and not really knowing what to expect. we had a good conversation about other benefits, the company being more flexible for the right person, that they have been searching for someone for this spot for 18mo now. I guess one guy is a straight-out engineer, no QA background. someone else was a more junior validation engineer. it sounded like I was the most well-rounded option, even though I am missing a couple things on their wants list. I left it that I was looking for $140-150k (I can't believe I just typed that...!) and similar bonus options to what I have now, in order to make the jump.
recruiter said that he had a call with the client today, so hopefully I'll know more soon.

It appears that I passed the first round of my job interview.

I so admire all of you interviewing for jobs right now. It must be so much more difficult than usual.

Good job Swamp!
I think interviewing is easier right now. My first 4 interviews were via video conferencing. But, it's really hard finding a place that's hiring above minimum wage.

The final results from the first round of interviews is in. I have prevailed by 65% on one portion and 75% on the other.
I will have 4 shares of the job interview in November, and the other candidate will have 1 share.

I'm chatting with the recruiter in the morning. he said feedback from the hiring manager was positive, but there were some followup questions.

just got off the phone with the recruiter, it's a no go. he submitted 5 profiles to the hiring manager, who rejected two outright. they are interviewing two, and the question for me was whether there is any flexibility with my salary requirements. recruiter's good - he told them that based on our conversations, he didn't think there would be. today's call was to confirm that. I said that unfortunately, since I can't bring half my family, I still need to live here. it really sounded like I had a solid chance at it.

Well, at least they know about you and if they run into issues with the other two, maybe they will revisit?

likely not with that company, for that position. it sounded like it had to do with their salary structure and this wasn't senior enough of a position to warrant the salary I was looking for. but, the recruiter sounded pretty bummed that we couldn't make it work.

That stinks chiver, but at least you took the chance. However, they could have flown you over for an in person interview and mini vacation for you I applied for a job this morning. They sent me to surveys to fill out that were 30 minutes each, so I waited as I knew I would have plenty of time this weekend to complete them. Within 2 hours they sent me an email saying they were moving on with other candidates. Ironically, a recruiter friend of mine called me today to catch up. At the end she mentioned this company and that she was targeting them. She went over the job description as we were on the phone and said I qualified for all the required skills. Not something I would normally do, but I sent a reply back and thanked them for their time in reviewing my resume, and asked if he would have time to tell me which skill sets he thought I was missing. Not sure if he will respond, but I figured what the heck

jelloshots4all - Actually, they couldn't have flown chiver78 over for an interview. My friends in Iceland shared the news today that Iceland is not allowing any visitors from the US. (They are only opening their borders to 12 countries for now.)

I think it's all of the EU, actually, but yes. next week's interviews would have been via phone. that's okay, I'm actually excited about being able to finally do what I was hired to do at my current place. yes, that would have been a really cool opportunity, but I've already shot myself in the foot enough chasing cool opportunities in my life. time to take a step back and appreciate well-paying stability for a little while.

After four whole days at my new job, I'm feeling pretty dang good about my decision to take this position.
New supervisor is super nice, super chill, and thinks I'm the greatest thing since sliced bread lol.
He told me on day three that he's training me to take over his position. I have no idea if that's in a month or a year or five years or what, but still, that's good for my future career options.
Well well well, change is in the air already. Per the bolded, awesome supervisor put in his notice. He's moving over to the Feds. So Friday I emailed him bluntly saying I want his job lol. I listed all the ways I'm qualified (which I am, just barely) and the benefits of moving me internally instead of trying to hire from the outside with all that's going on. He replied that was his plan all along (just wasn't expecting it this soon), and he'll recommend me to the controller. I'm not getting my hopes up, but maybe this will actually happen.

Small update on mine and DH's dual job hunt. I've completed my CPC training, and have a month until I sit for the certification exam. My current employer was approved for a small business loan so I'm still employed, though lacking actual work and feeling conflicted about wanting to move onto something else. Current plan is to try to find a part-time job for medical coding once I have my cert and juggle both until I see which pathway would offer the best potential. I'm not loving the sales/marketing aspect of my job in the downturn.
DH company doesn't want to lose him, but they can't offer him anything else until the current account is done, and that could be another year. He has an interview this week for a federal position.

Nothing to report yet, and it will probably be a while if it even happens. My controller did call me last week to ask about my interest in the position, see what I thought of the other accountants I'd be supervising if I got the job, etc. So that seemed promising. Right now we're all just trying to get through our busy season, and HR is seeing where they can cut costs because of the huge hit the budget will take due to the virus, so I'm going to try to be patient and not get too hopeful.

Small update on the possible job promotion:
The job posting closed a couple weeks ago. The controller told me they got 39 applicants, but only 4 were qualified. I got really worried that I wasn't one of the 4. They've relisted the position for another week. I got a generic email from HR saying that they were relisting and, if I'd been notified I didn't meet the qualifications, they'd be reviewing those applications. I was never notified of that, so I must have been among the original 4 who qualified. Yay me lol. So that's where I'm at.

So yesterday a recruiter from Amazon contacted me on linkedin and asked me to send him my resume. Working on getting that tightened up. Then today on a meeting with my boss he was being cryptically vague but the gist I got is that the might be moving him to another position in the company and there's talk of me replacing him. Though he wasn't that direct about it. So an interesting turn of events where I almost had to force them to give me a promotion finally almost 6 months ago and took over 4 months to actually give me my raise.
I'm interested in the Amazon one, but worried it'd involve moving to expensive cities which while I'm not 100% against, but I'd want to live a similar lifestyle in them which would require a large salary increase - like double what I'm getting paid. The COLA gets a lot of the way there but I'm concerned it wouldn't be enough when rent there is going to be like twice what I pay for a mortgage here.

Still waiting on results for my CPC exam, but I spoke to my boss today about the possibility of me finding another job and continuing to work for her on a contract or hourly basis. She was on board. I'm relieved she's supportive, a little queasy that I've pretty much volunteered to keep doing my same job for less pay. I was salary before and only worked 10-20 hours a week, but I was available 70 hours a week and that won't be the case if I find something else.

Another minor update in my ongoing quest for this job promotion. I had my interview last Friday (with a whole 3 hours' notice). It went fine I think - not fabulous but not bad either. Interviews go until the 22nd, so I should know something in a few weeks.

Very long! I think a good two or three months now? They interviewed 6, including me, per state regulations. I'll hopefully hear something next week. I'm getting a bad feeling I'm not going to get it, and the person who is would be awful. I sure hope I'm wrong.
