I can type 60 to 70 wpm. My mom can do 200+ possibly more I've only seen her go at her fastest a couple times. At my best, I could type 120 wpm and take shorthand at 220 wpm. That tells you how long ago that was.

I don't know how fast I type. Just that my carpal tunnel was well earned.

DS had a part time job in college where he did transcription for a financial services firm. He had to test at 50 won and he just barely passed. He must have had some keyboarding class in school. He got a lot faster working there. He says the job really helped him in his current job, he is appraiser and has to write reports. He gets paid by the report, so being fast typing helps him.

Let's just say that no one has or will ever hire me for my typing skills. Over the years have become faster but from a professional POV I still suck

I looked up the test they want him take. It's not word per minute test it's an accuracy/key stroke test. I took a random three minute one on Google and even with the kids screaming in my ear I still got 98.1% accuracy. DH should be able to do the same or better without the kids to act as distraction. He has another phone interview tomorrow. Doesn't remember applying for that one, it might be a cold call his Linkedin profile is set to receive calls/emails. He's open to finding out more about the position. Hoping this means he won't be unemployed for long.

Applied for 10 jobs this week. That's more than I found in a week so hopefully that is a good sign. The one phone screening today was a cold call either from seeing him on Indeed or LinkedIn they did not specify, meh. If he's going to take one right away it'd be the one that wants the touch key test.

Well so much for that job. DH took the test and it looked like he passed but we just got an email saying he failed. They wanted 6000 key strokes per minute when I went back to look at the email. I took one and only got 5300 words per minute so I wouldn't have passed either and I type pretty fast. Onto the next one. Leads sure dried up fast.

NomoreDramaQ1015 - I wouldn't worry too much about leads drying up right now. In two weeks, they'll almost certainly start coming back. But almost no one is thinking about hiring the week before Christmas.

I hope so. I am just starting to get anxious as my brain starts replaying 2015/16. I keep telling myself that this time around we're "better" off because at least my position is stable and I am making $10k more than I did but him losing his job has been a giant trigger for me.

One of DHs customers offered him a job in their restuarant kitchen. It's only $11 but it's full time days.
He'd still work for dad a couple nights a week like we have been.
That would still be tight but less tight than now. He'll keep looking for other jobs but this can get us thru till he lands one.

Drama, would working in a restaurant not owned by your dad be tempting for your H to relapse again? I've never worked in the food industry. I hear that restaurants tend towards drug usage but I don't know how much is fact or fiction.

Him being unemployed is a bigger potential trigger.
I've heard that too but I think it's more restuarant jobs don't tend to drug test making it easier to get a job if you're using.
Then a lot of restuarant jobs are night jobs which can lead people to take uppers.
A chicken/egg situation I suppose.

I've worked many restaurant jobs and drug use wasn't an issue at any of them.

So far, I have put in 11 job applications. I have heard back on 3 of them (no interest). At least one of the ones I haven't heard back on renewed the job ad (LinkedIn is saying the posting is "new" again), so guessing not moving forward on that one either. I continue to look once or twice a week. I've found some things but nothing I've been really excited about in the last 10 days, and since I don't need a new job, I am not applying for positions I am not excited about.

I'm looking for something very specific. I've had plenty of recruiters reach out, but I'm not interested in hustling anymore.

I guess I didn't get that last job I interviewed for. I wish they hadn't called before Thanksgiving to give me renewed hope, but of well.
Things are kind of looking up at my current place, though it's a bit risky for me as well. There's a company-wide reorganization happening. I'm currently primarily billing, and part-time status. The billiy department is moving into customer service, and I can bid for the now full-time job available there. Their plan is for me to stay in finance instead and help with payables and GL. I'd much, much prefer this, though I would still miss out on benefits, including tuition reimbursement. This might be a sneaky way to get rid of me, as well, though I don't see any signs of that. (I've survived lots of downsizing in my day, so this shit always comes with a side of paranoia for me.) I would definitely become more expendable, but just doing billing all the time makes me miserable just thinking about it. It involves babysitting computer processes, which is really, really not my thing and not what I went to college for.
We'll see what comes of this in a month or so.

DH took the restuarant job. $11/hr plus 7% of profits every night. Full time day shift.
He'll keep working for dad a couple nights a week or more too so dad is not left high and dry.
Those all combined we should be all right. Not great but all right especially now that DH is off the bank accounts.
We'll keep looking for something else but now the dire urgency is gone. We're taking a break from it over the holidays. He's got 12 applications out with two more to do next week.
Hopefully we'll hear something in the New Year.
It's also good for DH to have structure to his day. Less time to obsess and wallow. Also no having to face dealing with UE and this gives him a different set of skills that will come in handy should this happen again.
Could also open up new opportunities. The owner is looking to expand his butcher shop and DH knows his product so you never know.

I have not been around so why is your husband off the bank accounts?

He's off because he relapsed and we both decided until he's got a grip on the situation he should not have easy access to money. It's much harder to relapse if you have no cash. A HUGE, if not all, of our problems stem from his addiction. We still have to clean up the mess but overall our fixed expenses are pretty low. Without having to worry about hundreds a month going missing we can scoot along with him making less. Ideally we want to replace his old income or close to it but this job keeps us from jumping out of the pan and into the fire. I'd like to avoid another BT situation if we can.

Ok - I worked myself up and applied to the Kansas job. Unfortunately, the application made clear that remote was not an option, so that is one question I had!
Will see what happens! Time to start answering the phone with a professional voice, JIC! But - will be alert for emails.
One piece of this: The CV is updated!!! I have a cover letter! Will boldly search for good positions....given my niche in a niche in a niche field and now that I am in a managing role, seems about 1 job comes up every 6 months - so - I better apply for them all.

Applied for 14 jobs. Already rejected for 3 which was fast considering the holidays. We'll see what happens with the other 11. I am somewhat optimistic about one job because it is for inventory and that is a lot of what he managed at his old job, that key word is plastered all over his resume. Still I had jobs where I was 100% qualified for the job and didn't get it so who knows. Job searching is one of the most soul sucking experiences in your life.
So far working at two resturants is going all right, obviously tiring and a lot of standing. He was sent home on Sunday because they didn't need him. I pointed out this is common in the industry, it helps keep labor costs down it isn't like a regular job where if we are slow I am still expected to be here 8 hours. This is a key reason why I am not so keen on him making a shift for this type of work. It would be one thing if we were DINKs but I am not eager for him to work in an industry with uncertain hours now that we have kids. That's why I switched from academics because I can't be losing my job every 3-5 years and trying to "make it work" anymore. That's why my dad waited until we were grown to launch things.
Don't get me wrong it's better than $0 and way better than UE. I also understand that he doesn't feel like he fits into corporate work because I don't feel that way either hence why I work in a lab. I want to be supportive but I don't like instability. I could make the low pay work though it would suck to go back to living like college students but I don't want to deal with low income AND uncertain income at the same time, at least not for an extended period.
