Surprised myself today...found two jobs to apply for. Not usually a big day to find much on a Sunday.
Will be taking copy writing tests tomorrow to work for a freelance site.
Submitted some freelance today, and also contacted a friend about doing some work for her next week. It's legit work, and it's paid in cash, and I know her, so I'll do it.

DH is at his second interview with Omaha Steaks right now. Here's hoping he walks out with a job offer. Then onto the printing company at 3:00 pm unless he has a job offer in hand from OM before the end of the day.

HE GOT THE JOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!! x 1 million He starts next week. $15/hr. He'll get two merit raises w/in the first year so by December he'll be making close to $16/hr. They had two positions open one from 4:30 am to 1:00 pm and one from 7:30-4:00 so they asked him which he would prefer. He'll take either but since they asked he requested the 7:30. I feel like I am going to pass out, the amount of stress that was just released is mind boggling.

So excited for you and your family, Drama! And, I must admit, a little jealous about how quickly he was able to find a job That's so awesome! I know it took me six months to find another job. I am way more specialized than DH is though. My guess is not a lot of people are wanting to do what he does, it's not very glamorous or high paying. Yet it's a much needed job since they are the first line of defense between us and contaminated food products.

Haven't gotten the package yet for medical/dental but I would be shocked if they were worse than Tyson or his current company, I don't think that is even possible. Besides we have my insurance for at least the next 5 years.
According to careerlink they have merit raises, which DH was told about in the interview. Bonus Plan, Flex Spend, HSA, 401(k), Vision, Life, LTD and you get a steep discount on their products.
Now we just need to wait around for the paperwork so DH can roll over his profit sharing from his old company into his IRA. Should be a decent chunk of change to invest.
Then we have three weeks of unemployment coming to us that we can put directly into savings.
I'll have to ask DH when his first paycheck is so I can arrange our bills accordingly for the month.
I like that problem a lot more than figuring out how to pay them at all!

I got a reject today (the first interview I did), but I am not really sorry - it was not the job I wanted. Applied for five more today, two yesterday and another two freelance writing/editing. Took a short break just now to clean a kitchen trash can, fold laundry and make myself some hot tea. Aside from a half-hour lunch break and the short afternoon break, I got at this pretty steadily from 9 to 4. Could be longer today, as I have to test for a freelance website beginning at 3:30.

Yeah for your DH, NomoreDramaQ1015! But please make sure he calls to cancel the other interview this afternoon (or goes anyway, just in case they might offer something better...)
So happy this went fairly quickly for your family. But my question is- will he get all 3 weeks of UI? Here in WA, there's a week (maybe 2, but at least 1) right at the beginning where you have to file for your claim, but you won't get benefits.

I am not sure. If I understand it right he should get three weeks b/c the week you apply is your wait period. So he'd get paid for Dec 28 until Friday. He would not get paid Dec 21-25.
But I don't know if the holidays in there make a difference or not.
At any rate we don't desperately need it anymore so whatever we get is just a nice bonus to make up whatever we need to take from savings till DH gets his first paycheck.
The other interview was canceled. DH thanked them for the interest but told them he'd accepted a position elsewhere.
For a press assistant they weren't going to offer more than $15/hr. DH and BIL guessed they'd at most offer $12-$13/hr.

DH got the official official job offer a little bit ago. They are doing the background check and will schedule his physical for sometime later in the week.

I'm not sure I would want a discount on that after looking at it all day! Congrats to Mr. Drama on the job offer though.

No Omaha Steaks. He gets a large discount off their products but even with a discount they aren't cheap, it's not something we plan on making a habit of.

Perfect timing on the new job. DH's unemployment claim was denied. Since he was fired for cause the penalty in Nebraska is he could not apply again till April.

Crazy DH found out the company is in chaos, a lot of backlash resulted from his termination. The complaints filed against his supervisor are mounting and getting more severe in nature. DH said well if you are happening to investigate her and now I don't have to worry about retaliation I got some interesting information for you Ha, karma is a bitch If he has the time before his new job starts, he can probably file an appeal and have an adjudicator look at it. I think he would have a good case since there were no prior warnings and another employee did the same thing without penalty.

DH decided he's not going to bother with it. If he didn't have the new job then yes he would appeal but we don't NEED the money anymore so he doesn't have any desire to fight Nebraska. All this crap between my claim and his hammers home how important it is to have an EF. I asked DH if he finally got why I am such a maniac when it comes to our savings. He gets it. His employer did not deny the claim. The state decided he was unqualified.

Which is a source of all the issues exploding currently. DH pointed the HR guy to the production supervisor involved, he saved pictures in case of cover up. Love, love the bolded part. So happy to hear that he found something so quickly!

I went on an interview yesterday for a position similar to what I do now, just a different department. The interview went well, but very different from what I had thought/practiced. It was a panel of four and the questions were more on my skills and abilities and my past experiences and how they would match their needs.
No "how do you deal with disagreements with coworkers, customers, strengths, weaknesses, etc." I met all the qualifications with the exception of a lot of grant writing. I’ve done some small grants, but no large ones and this was just a very small part of the job.
They told me that there were only two other applicants and that I was the top one and they planned to make their decision by next week. So I was very hopeful. Guess what I found on the intranet under job opportunities? Yep, the position was re-posted. Why just not end the interview with the normal “thank you for your interest, it was nice to meet you, blah, blah, blah…”
I would have felt better if they had done that as opposed to telling me I was the top candidate. Don’t pee on my shoes and tell me it’s raining.
I'm so sorry. Any chance the repost was accidental?

So happy to hear that he found something so quickly! He's always been on me b/c he doesn't understand why I get so twitchy when our savings account drops below a certain level and why I harp so much on the subject. B/c according to him "money doesn't matter". Well yeah yeah it does and you just got the perfect example as to why money matters. I said it could have been worse, at least since you filed in 2015 you didn't have to go thru the group and individual counseling along with workshops to improve your employability. You have to do all that plus your 5 job contacts as soon as you apply. Never mind it can take up to a month before you are approved, you need to behave like you are approved or else. I would be BEYOND pissed if I went thru all the new Nebraska requirements only to be turned down.

Still following my schedule here - up at normal time, workout, breakfast and hit the job openings. Today, I need to download some stuff for taxes - I do not have my W-2 yet, but I can get everything else together. We should be getting a small refund. I take a lunch break, go back to work for awhile, then force myself to get up and move around/do chores/get away from the computer.
I have to go out later, to pick up dry cleaning (interview outfit) and use a bunch of CVS coupons before they expire, mostly for food and paper goods.
I will be working on freelance stuff after lunch.
