Well, I finished the writing assignment, I have the department's business plan and have been researching the national organization that they represent. So now I just need to wait until January 6th for the interview.

I'm sorry Drama. What a rough year you all have had! Here's hoping 2016 goes better.
Well it's official, I didn't get the federal position. They never even emailed me; I went to the website to check my status, and it said not selected. Which I figured, but still. Would it kill them to send out a crappy form we-don't-want-you email at least? ( Sigh) I'll just keep applying.

Flutter I hate it when your application disappears down the internet black hole. I agree a generic automated rejection email is not too much to ask. I shouldn't have to chase them down to get closure. Course with some jobs I thought I lost out on they called back several months later. Then acted surprised when I told them I had accepted a different position. We decided to look into printing press jobs for DH. He spent over 10 years doing that before we dated and he was very good at it. We spun his experience doing that into getting him the QA job at Tyson. I think we can spin things to go back in the opposite direction. He's open to going back to it and it would give us a wider job pool.

Drama, you're a very good wife and I can absolutely understand the panic. You take on so much with your H, and I am honestly surprised that you're putting so much time into finding a job for him. The circumstances totally suck, and it's just not right how they handled it. Hopefully your H takes those feelings/energy and puts it to good use handling his own UI filing, job hunt, resume refresh, etc. I certainly don't want to wrongfully assume but I wonder what he's doing to work on a solution, for himself and your family.

The time that I got laid off, they told me right after the holidays. I could tell the decision had been made a few weeks ago, but I appreciated that they waited until after the holidays to do it. My company just laid off and fired a bunch of people right around Thanksgiving, right when hiring shuts down at most other companies I survived, but I'm looking to get out. The senior management there always seemed a bit unhinged. I can deal with crazy. I can deal with mean. I can't deal with both.

Nothing is ever really gone from the Internet. The proof that she did it is still there and accessible if necessary.

Well to be fair it's only been 24 hours. He found six leads on usa.gov for jobs he is qualified for. He already took the quiz when he applied for a USDA job and aced it, which according to the site means he moves up the candidate ladder. Between him and what I found we've found more jobs for him in 24 hours than I found for myself in a month. Then he applied for unemployment now we sit around and wait for a week to see if he gets approved. He also sucked up his pride and asked if there is any way to appeal the decision. I told him he should probably call "HR" to talk with them as well. IDK if it will go anywhere since they don't have an actual HR department, it's one guy who does 7 other jobs on top of the HR duties. There isn't anything in the handbook we can use to challenge it nor is there a written process for how to file an appeal. I am still proud of him for at least attempting it. Got the application into Jack Links Beef Jerky. I'd be extremely surprised if he didn't get an interview since it's the exact same job he's been doing now since 2009. I'm worried naturally but I kinda saw this coming the moment his new supervisor moved in. When he was first hired the VP and supervisor at the time REALLY wanted DH due to his extensive knowledge of pork products. They even offered him $2/hr more to start than they do other QAs in order to get him away from Tyson. He really made a splash and was recieving a lot of praise. Then the supervisor decided to quit. He was tired of the BS in the company and had saved enough he could retire early. New supervisor moved in, she got the job based on her butt sitting there the longest, not b/c she was qualified or anything. That's when problems started. Suddenly he could do no right. He was written up for being "selfish" and her reasoning was he wasn't doing the work of one of her favorites. When favorite made the same mistake (which cost the company millions by the way) DH was told it was HIS fault for not helping her keep up with her workload. In some ways I am relieved b/c I was starting to fear that this job would literally kill him. It was also turning him into a really unattractive person. I do wish he had listened to me sooner and looked harder so he could leave on his terms, but the cat's out of the bag. And at least this happened with me being back at UNMC. My benefits are inexpensive and excellent plus my pay is high enough now that I can just about cover all our bills. If he gets UE things will be tight but we can continue on fairly normally. If he doesn't we'll have to figure out what to do in regards to daycare, but we'll cross that bridge if we come to it. So if it was going to happen better it happen now than when I was unemployed or at Boys Town.

I am glad I am not unemployed right now. If we are reading the letter right dh has to apply to five jobs a week and they can't be with the same employer. There are like six employers in the area for my field. I applied once to seven jobs at unmc, only one per week would count. I'd have been screwed. Would have had to piss off a lot of people applying to jobs I am not qualified for just to get my five separate employers. At least it was before the new year. In 2016 Nebraska will also require weekly job counseling sessions, resume classes and interview practice. How are you supposed to find an actual job in there? I am all for the resources being available but feel like this is designed assuming all unemployed people are stupid lazy bums. It'll hamper the responsible job hunters trying to schedule interviews and isn't going to solve anything in regards to the small numbers of scammers. Nebraska sucks. So that huge stack of jobs we found is now two weeks of UE. God hope DH doesn't have to search as long as I did. At least his letter says it is acceptable to apply online. Mine said either in person, phone or fax.

Wow.... Hopefully your DH find a job sooner than later! FWIW in FL, you also need to apply for 5 different jobs a week too. I'm not sure if they have to be with a different employer though. DH will be finding out once he files for unemployment, which better be soon. FWIW, DH still is owed a little from his prior employer which will help. Granted, I've heard it's only for 14 weeks in FL with a maximum benefit of $275 per week (assuming you qualify for maximum benefit).

$275? Are you kidding me?
Been a while but in 2012-2013 when my wife was unemployed it was $405/week I believe from the state of NY (she qualified for the max).
Just checked it is up to $420 now and MA is $628/week.

Just looked for FL: It is $275 a week (if you get max, which I'm thinking DH will) for 19 weeks.

Job hunt: been applying but haven't heard from anyone yet.
It is the holidays and not really in need of a job, so not to worried about it.
Looking at our budget and trying to cut some expenses... We have been over indulging and not much to show for our $6,500/net.
Time to stick to a budget!

$325 is the max in Nebraska. It'd cover daycare which I'd like to avoid losing but if they are going to make it this hard to collect maybe it'd be with having dh being a says while unemployed. Suppose we should wait to see if he even gets it first, the decision may be made for us.

Drama, did something change or is Nebraska sort of indicating that your field is smaller than your hubby's is?

Drama, did something change or is Nebraska sort of indicating that your field is smaller than your hubby's is? Things changed. Rickets thinks this will solve all of Nebraska's employment problems. Dh is lucky, new claimants next year will have to also attend mandatory job counseling, resume and interview workshops and mandatory retraining classes whether you need them or not Meanwhile you'll be missing calls and having to weigh going on an interview vs you benefits. If there were 20+ jobsva month available for everyone in Nebraska they wouldn't need all this crap because no one would be unemployed to begin with

...:::"Surely his email account can be reactivated. And how can someone's word on something with no factual information to back it up be "proof"? I feel like this needs to go higher than unemployment - this is wrongful termination and that company needs to be sued into the ground.":::... This kind of stuff is the worst part. When the watchdogs are fed, they don't turn against their masters. So you feel like you got snared in a serious gotcha, and all the recourse you thought you had turns out to be just as complicit. The silver bullet you thought you had is locked beyond your reach. I don't have much to add other than to hope that you guys are able to get new opportunities, and full UI this time around, and quickly. Maybe your DH will be lucky and those mythical benefits will rain from the sky .

Everyone said how much cheaper it was to live in Florida. Well, not at all. Good was more expensive especially milk. You did get more home for the same money and property taxes were a bit less but you got what you paid for. What my property taxes paid for in Michigan was excellent schools, police, fire, garbage service. Schools were okay. The rest was non existent at best. Oh, we paid for it, just never saw it much. Garbage you paid for.

It's been almost a year since I left, and I still haven't found another job. Even with that stress weighing on me, I am still happier and healthier than I was at this time last year. It sounds like your family has been through a lot this last year, so I hope that means you guys are due for an upswing. Within a few months, I bet you guys will both be in jobs that don't make you miserable.

Up to seven applications now which I think is good considering its the end of the year. We don't expect to hear anything for a couple of weeks. Crossing my fingers DH gets some bites.
We're extremely confused on what the state means by "contacts", from the way we heard it you randomly cold call employers about job postings. I told DH that sounds like a great way to get rejected. The majority of ads I see expressly state do not call or show up in person. Bet employers love Nebraska's new guidelines.
DH decided he's just going to apply for five jobs a week, we know that counts. Now we wait around to see if he gets approved. We have to follow all these rules even though we still don't know what is going to happen.

Ok Carl calm the fuck down... I am like a silly little school girl that just got a call from her boy crush!
I got a call back! It is still in retail but not store level. It is Grocery non - perishable buyer (so corporate level) for a competitor.
I was in a meeting so they could like if possible a phone interview and see where it goes!
For some reason that made my day. Ok Carl, calm down! I was so excited I emailed my wife the voicemail lol!
