Gross another 21k in 5 years ... Does that mean your raise was ~4K/year?

I went to apply for the job I wanted last night and found out that it was in St Louis. I had limited visibility on my phone so all I saw was that it was in MO. KCMO is practically across the street from me. St Louis is 4 hours away and I'm not moving. Oh well.

I got the job!!!!!!!!!!!
Formal letter should be in my inbox tomorrow morning. They understand I am not giving my notice until it's 100% official. Should move fast since I was employed there at the beginning of the year.
Estimated start date is November 9th.
OMG I can do so much with a bigger paycheck. We can put aside money for the house (we're going to buy it from my parents), I can put aside money for braces, more retirement, bigger EF. We're looking at gross another $21k in the five years I'm with this lab.
First I am finally getting a new couch! I am so incredibly happy for you.

Gross another 21k in 5 years ... Does that mean your raise was ~4K/year? Maybe I am too optimistic, but I read that to mean $4.5k/year over her previous job -> so making up the lower salary at the current job PLUS the $4.5k? Sure hope I am right. ETA, apparently my math skills are calling it an early night, so make that $4.2k

We do want to inch you down here, though, towards Publix. Low cost of living and the greatest grocery chain around. Read the rankings! You would love it.

Quick question for anyone reading.....I'm tomorrow I'm taking an interview at a company that deals with mergers and acquisitions... What kind of questions should I expect at the interview? It's for data entry and some research. The required skills I need are transferable from my current experience... I'm totally out of my element, though, with the general field. I'm 40, and I can still count on one hand how many non-student job interviews I've taken... I'm not sure, I haven't had too many interviews lately, but wanted to say good luck, and you'll do fine.

Sorry my computer at home has some serious problems right now. I am going to have someone look at it but Dh insists we have to wait till after Halloween so we don't lose his stupid freemium game .
I miscalculated the amount of money we'd be up in 5 years. This position starts at $37,500. I'll be around that salary which is what I expected, I'll get the formal letter stating exactly what I am being paid sometime today.
That represents a $7.5k increase from my current salary. So that is an extra $37,500 gross over the course of five years.
As far as the raise rate, well that depends on what the state approves in their budget. It can be anywhere from 0% to 3%, it never gets higher than that. On the "bright side" I know that my PIs are subjected to the same raise rate I am so it's not like I am the only one getting shafted in that area by the good state of Nebraska.
Their lab has WINDOWS! I had no idea how important windows were to my emotional well being until I was stuck in a lab for 40 hours a week w/o one. Wouldn't be so bad if there was another human being ot talk to but there isn't. They have a lot of people in their lab, so I am excited to work with others again. They even invited me to lunch on Friday if I can make it (unfortunately I can't) which is a HUGE difference compared to this place. I've been here four months and it's like I am invisible.
DH was teasing me b/c he said most people would be thinking of all the stuff they can buy with their new salary. Instead I am getting a hard on thinking about retirement contributions and emergency funds. YM has ruined me.

So question for you guys.
This is my first time I am quitting a position, I've always lost my position long before I had another one lined up.
So what do I do? Just meet with my bosses and tell them I found another job so I am giving my notice?
I want to make sure I do this right b/c I don't want to burn bridges. This position covers July-November so I only have a 2 month gap on my resume. I need positive juju in case future employers want to check things out.

Something about not feeling like you're a good fit with them. You're sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for the opportunity. I've always tried to keep mine short and sweet.

That's what I was thinking. I was going to say another job offer came thru back at UNMC with higher pay. I'm sorry for any problems I'm causing and I thank them for the opportunity they gave me. There is no way on God's green earth I'd see a $7.5k increase if I stayed here. The only way to increase that much in this industry is to lab hop. Only an idiot would turn it down.
We'll see how it goes, hopefully they will be professional about it.

Dear boss,
I regret to inform you that I am submitting my 2 week (or whatever) notice, effective 10/22/15 (or whatever). I regret the short notice and inconvenience that this causes you. I've gotten to X point in data collection as of 10/21/15.
I thank you for the opportunity of working in your lab and hope to work with you again in the future. It has been a fascinating experience and I wish you well with your research in Q.
Sincerely, Drama

Because it WAS fascinating for you to learn all about your need for people/contact; windows and a certain amount of authority/responsibility. And an inability to work slow. You learned a lot, just not what you'd have expected/hoped for.

Then that's what I'll use then.
This is new territory for me. DH was no help he's either been laid off or just walked out on previous jobs rather than give notice.
