Still exercising and watching what I eat, but easing up a little as I've been really tired the last couple of weeks. There's still a good possibility I will be down 10 lbs. by next weekend, which is the annual family reunion at the beach. Currently 163.6, 26.0 BMI, 33.6% body fat and 46.8% body water (I think I met my int. goal for body fat, nearly to my int. goal for the body water). I've been re-reading some books I found in the basement--for pleasure, though not exactly fiction. I think that's a good thing, as I've been denying myself very much fun for a very long time now. It's been weird having both DS's home with me now for the summer (starting this week). Daycare situation is difficult such that I will return to my serious job-search closer to the fall. Mom's health is a little worse. Not sure where it's going to go or what we'll end up doing. Very much taking it day by day. Need to instill some discipline in accomplishing mundane tasks of every day life. I think consistency would go a long way. There's been way too much stop and go here.

I think my goals are all shot to hell right now. And it's OK.
I think our finances can be on auto pilot for now.
I discovered that somehow the motion of the bus makes my cell phone feel like I'm walking, thus beefing up the number of steps I take daily.
We have several competing needs on our house: new flooring in the bathroom, a new humidifier, and three new windows in the front of our house (why, oh why does my DH decide to tell me this at o'dark thirty on a Friday?), and landscaping. All are equally important. We may look into financing windows.
Being crafty from stash has just gone out the window. Due to time and trying something new. I'm not sure I'll continue with a virtual summer camp for knitting. But I learned something new. And for that, I am proud.
I anticipate basically flailing around with goals until all three kids are back in school in Sept. From now until then, no two weeks are the same.

2016 Goals Financial -
1 ) Pay off the 2nd Mortgage. --- I am now at 2.2K and still looking at a September payoff.
2 ) Put $1000 into savings this year. --- On track. Still chugging along.
Personal -
3 ) Meet with friends at least 3 times this year. --- I have seen 1 a few times now. The other will probably be on our Girl's Weekend.
4 ) Start a game night with work friends --- Game night was postponed due to a family death. I'm not sure when I will re-schedule. BUT, I picked up the game Exploding Kittens and it arrived earlier this week.
5 ) Try a new recipe every month. --- Several have intrigued me and 1 worked really well. It was baking rice in the oven instead of on the stove top.
6 ) Go out of state on vacation this year. -- For myself not to visit Mom. --- The Girl's Weekend will be in state , but I am going to work on something for myself in the late fall.
7 ) Work on decluttering the house. --- I have really stalled on this right now.
8 ) Check out a different podcast every few months --- Still doing the 3 and I am going back and starting Campfire from the very beginning. There are 250+ episodes to this one.
9 ) Walk more. --- I think I should just take this off because it has not happened.
10 ) Play with my paints. --- Still has not been done. I have the paper and paint I just have been unmotivated.

1. Improve our financials-yes.. 2:Career/Grad School- Totally elevated to a main focus now. Found a grad school program that is perfect. Offers classes I'm looking for, is flexible in how long I can take to complete, completely online, ranked, and in my price range. It's possible we can cash flow this, but I'm hoping for help from work.
There's a mass exodus happening at work next year. New leadership has already been identified, but that's it so far. I have a meeting with my supervisor next week to get a better handle on things. I (don't think I have to) worry about my job. But, I am worried, because of the behaviors/request of my supervisor.
I think now is the time to pull the trigger with school.
3. Crafting: I think I decided I need to do a rotation...X days knitting, X days on needlework, X days on quilting. We'll see how it works.
4. Work on our House: This is getting bumped up in priority list. I've been thinking about life..and our house isn't in any shape to sell if we need to. This week, the kids and I are cleaning out the craft/game closet. We need to get a dehumidifer for the basement, too.
Health and reading: Well, I read for a little bit today. And health. It's still there.

Congratulations for all the progress on goals! (and "You can do it!" for those goals we've made little/no/backwards progress on). My son getting a job will really help take a burden off me for some of the college expenses, as well as cell phone, insurance, and gas (he is going to pay his share of all of this, plus I think I'll have him pay his gym membership after this year, he just signed up, and I figure I can do the first year as a graduation present, and he can decide if he wants to continue after the first year expires). I found out YNAB (the new subscription version) is free for college students, so I'm going to help him set that up as soon as he starts receiving a paycheck (soon! He'll get paid for his two training days next week, plus $100 for expenses since it's out of town). I'll post in YM, but here is the link if you have a college student (or are one yourself) who could use it. It's also good for part time students. www.youneedabudget.com/blog/post/ynab-is-now-free-for-college-students

I didn't get down the full 10 lbs. before my beach weekend, but am now, so yay me! 161.0# as of today, and all the other numbers are improved too: 32.7% body fat and 47.9% body water. Getting sick sure seems to help with the weight dropping. Feeling better now, though. I had put my job hunt on hold a bit for the summer, and focused on fitness and weight loss, and now a couple decent possibilities popped up, so I will apply and see what happens. Tackling the paper monster this weekend.

DS started his first job today!
I've been trying to increase my water intake, but I hate water :/ Today I picked some leaves off the mint plants (growing like weeds, just like I hoped!) and decided to "steep" some in cold water. I tore up about four leaves, put them in a tea infuser, and put it in a glass of cold water. Only left it in for about a minute and there was enough flavor to the water that I actually liked it. My favorite part is no sugar or any type of sweetener! I've had about five 16 oz glasses, and will probably drink more today. Looks like I'll need to make sure I pick the leaves off and dry them all summer so I'll have lots to get me through the winter.

Down to 158.6 # as of today. Applied for local PT job that seems to be a pretty good fit. We'll see, I guess. Working on the house, but it's really slow going. Wish we had tackled more decluttering before the kids. They just increase the junk and chaos exponentially.

Keeping up with drinking more water Finally started that first quilt. Already have over 30 hours working on it, about 1/4 of the way done (I hope, lol). That's just for a baby sized quilt (36" x 45") that only has three pieces on top!

It's getting better because we're done procreating, so no more baby things needed, and DS is moving out of the toy stage.

I have a few minutes so progress is as follows:
Money: Saving, but lost two students the past week. Just in wait and see mode. Still tossing ideas around.
GRE studying: Started reviewing vocabulary and watching geometry in Khan academy. Need to get a schedule written out with study milestones
House: Got one garbage bag, plus other assorted toys/games out of the art/game closet. Still have a bit to go. It's the PITA...the dried out markers, etc. DH got the dehumidifier. We've doing a little outside. Will tackle windows next.
Projects: Manged to finish a hardanger piece. Just have to cut it out. Waiting until this weekend. Need to make a list of projects, etc.
Reading: I've read. A a little. Not much. But, it's something.
Other: I've started back to school shopping. But, I've essentially got four kids..Three of our own, plus I donate to the neighborhood school. Its a lot to keep track of. Target had a cartwheel thing for 25% 10 items. It was worth it.

3. Health..Went to the dentist and got my ass handed to me on a platter for not taking better care of myself.
4. Start working through my stash. a. Knit for charity: knit two pairs of booties..just need to sew them up. Also have a few bibs that need minimal finishing.. b. I've been remiss in my updates the last couple of weeks. I had good news on Friday, plus lots of bad that put me (and my DH) in a foul mood. The good: My weight was finally in a normal weight BMI category for the first time in at least 7 years. 157.0, 24.9 BMI, 31.1% body fat, 48.6% body water The bad: I got an email--from the local PT job I really wanted--that said I didn't have the experience they were looking for. How are you ever going to get into something new if people only want to hire you to do exactly what you've always done? The ugly: Our hot water heater broke, and it looks like repairs for my Honda Civic will cost more than the car is worth. It hasn't been checked out by a mechanic, but I've been Googling! Still, the body looks so nice, if I were a mechanic or a gear-head, I'd snatch it up to make it a show car in a few years. Did some sorting and de-cluttering over the weekend. So that's something, I guess. Not a lot of exercising was done when I'd have only a cold shower to wash off the sweat. I did exercise this morning right before going over my mom's where I could shower. It really frees up my afternoon, so I may stick with that schedule. Added goals: potty train DS2, who today told me wants to stay a baby. Wonderful! find a car for DH to drive to work in look into taking a graduate class this fall (possible, as I may not need to take the GMAT)--moving forward for required classes for CPA exam

All I had to do was tell myself frequently that I am enough. Got this through a life style lecture in the internet.
I forgot the other half of my 2016 goal.

So far the only goal I am meeting this year is the financial one. All of my non-financial stuff is completely side tracked.
My parents are coming out for a visit in a few days, and once the visit is over I will have to restart my attempts at health and fitness goals.

Lizard Queen --ouch, those are some hard set backs! But yea on the weight loss! I have almost 80 hours on my hand quilted baby blanket! Still have probably 20+ to go. But it's been fun and keeps my hands busy. Spending this month (including tail end of last month) was a little crazy, but some of that was planned. I have one more splurge planned (souvenir t-shirts at the Weird Al concert tomorrow), then I'll go back to saving hard. I'm still putting money away for college each month, so that's progress. If DS stays another year, it means an added year of college, but also another year to save for the more expensive school. With his job and child support, he should be able to help save $1000/month for the cause. I need to get rid of my old Honda. It was a great little car, but after DS wrecked it, not so pretty (and not comfortable with it for freeway driving). And it hasn't run for a while (might be fuel pump, which I could figure out how to change, but you have to drop the gas tank, etc... and, we just don't need a third car and all the insurance, etc it requires). The house looks like a tornado hit it again, ugh. Need to get back on more decluttering so I can set up the sewing room.

Oops, sorry for dropping the thread. Let me know if the week count is wrong.
Mostly, things are a bust. Job search is on hold until I know if DH's hip surgery is off. He will need a lot of my help during recovery if he has surgery.
I emailed someone regarding taking a class or 2 before being officially admitted into the grad program. Apparently, the school of business does not allow it except for one certain program. I guess I need to just take the GMAT already.
Had a garage sale, and sold very few things. DH closed early when it started raining. Will have to donate a lot to get anywhere with the house, but still hoping to sell the big stuff via Craigslist. Will try next weekend for another garage sale too.
Met all my intermediate weight-loss goals, so that's one good thing! I should look back and see what else I wanted to accomplish this year.

1. Improve our financials Found a little job to supplement teaching, as that's not looking good. Going to have more dental expenses that can't be cash flowed.
2. Grad School This month I need to start discussions with dept head about applying to grad school. Today's project is to make a study schedule for Sept.
3. Start working through my stash. a. Knit for charity-Found a hat pattern that looks decent with a yarn I have 455 skeins of (not really that many). b. Finish one UFO (cross stitch) a month-Finished another UFO. Makes 5 for the year. I think 6 will be my realistic goal.
4. Work on our House a. Declutter-Got rid of another grocery bag of stuff b Repair-Need to get DH to get moving on replacing windows. Need to work on the kids rooms (again) to get them organized.
What the hell, I'll shoot for the stars: 5. Read something other than blogs and messageboards. I need to start doing thins. Reading Level 1 Star Wars, Dora, and Paw Patrol books don't exactly have vocab building words in them.

this seems like a great thread.
Kudos to leaping lizard for starting it. I don't know if I have any goals that would be workable right now - I'll join in for the 2017 one. Good Luck, All! Yes. For me, it helps to be accountable for my actions. Not that you all me if I don't reach them. But, for the first time in a long time, I've got direction, which is nice.

I'd like things to stop now, please. The good news is that I react to stress by not eating, so I've lost 7-8 pounds. Other good news: DS is no longer acting out since we moved him out of preschool back to the lower class. And I no longer have to deal with the gorramn judgmental b!tch of a preschool teacher (sample quote: "if he can't succeed in preschool, he'll never succeed in life!" Preschool teacher, meet my fist...that happens to make six figures in my own right and be married to the kid's carbon-copy father that outearns me roughly three-to-one. How much did you make, again? Tell me more about being successful in life...) Further good news: I have no regrets whatsoever about moving him to a new daycare at the end of the month. I am SO SICK of the daycare constantly telling me my kid needs to be evaluated immediately, and my pediatrician is wrong that he's normal, and the evaluation (results: normal) they pressured me into in March is wrong and probably we also made it up. Further good news: I saw the dog as he wandered off back, probably to die, this morning, and dragged him into the car for an emergency trip to the vet who successfully deflated his dangerously bloated belly. Also: we can easily afford the extremely invasive emergency surgery he needs to avoid a likely immediate recurrence. He's also on good pain meds ALso: my boss is very understanding and I can take PTO in one-hour chunks and work weird hours to make up time Bad news: I am fair skinned and cry at the drop of a hat and am going to have ugly puffy eyes and a red nose for the foreseeable future. Good news: we have had a nearly-full bottle of Malibu rum. End of rant...thanks for letting me vent.

Oh, and further good news? I think I did our MD taxes right. DH thinks I did our MD taxes right. The CPA also seems to think I did our MD taxes right. The bad news: MD doesn't think so and is making us schedule a freaking hearing so we can demonstrate that the CA taxes we paid on our rental house in CA mean we don't owe MD taxes on it too. At least the difference is down to $1K as opposed to the $17K they initially told us we still owed, having apparently lost track of the same $17K that was withheld from our paychecks.

The preschool teacher then proceeded to tell me that other parents would come in with a list of goals for their kids..and real academic goals.. At my kids' school, there's a weird trend going on to make sure the kids are "college ready." Which has translated to more computerized assessment and making middle school kids (who already own smart phones and iPads) buy an iPad for school use. I guess only having one iPad doesn't make you quite college ready. You really need two..who knows, maybe having two won't be enough by the time the peanut gets to middle school.

2016 Goals Financial - 1 ) Pay off the 2nd Mortgage. --- Being paid off by Friday 2 ) Put $1000 into savings this year. --- I was on track but I have had plumbing at over $550 and yesterday were 2 new tires for the car at $333. More is going out than in at the moment.
Personal - 3 ) Meet with friends at least 3 times this year. --- Girls Weekend is this month 16-18 across the pass in the eastern part of the state.
4 ) Start a game night with work friends --- It's happened once and I will attempt to work one more in by the end of the year.
5 ) Try a new recipe every month. --- Nothing recently. I have been thinking about some of my tried and true ones though.6 ) Go out of state on vacation this year. -- For myself not to visit Mom. --- The Girl's Weekend will be in state and due to having sick and ill family members I will have to work something out for next year. 7 ) Work on decluttering the house. --- I have stalled on this right now but there is a small pile of clothes on the dining room table.8 ) Check out a different podcast every few months --- Sticking with Campfire and it's backlog. Have not been on the computer as much. I will probably pick back up in the late fall.
9 ) Walk more. --- Not happening. 10 ) Play with my paints. --- Not happening. Things have been messy all around for me this summer. I fought to become president of my HOA and I have 2 people on the board that have good intentions but are in the building trades and seem to believe that only specific contractors should be used even though they are really busy and can't get to us in a decent time. So things are extremely slow on that front. My dad is having several medical issues and mom is not much better and I have assisted my brother with 4 moves in the last year alone. I am getting really tired and worn down. I am looking forward to the girls weekend but not to the drive. But I really need to be able to drive if something comes up. I have vacation next week and I will be painting the front fence of our complex and attempting to get a few other things out of the house to lighten my load. Than the week after dad has to have heart exploratory surgery so there goes 2 more days of vacation. I only have 2 left I believe then it's unpaid leave if something comes up until next year. I seriously hope that the latter part of the year will be a improvement.
