BlondeGranny, as a long time, frequent reader of these boards, I did read that your DH had passed away recently. I know it has been a hard time for you and you have my condolences.
I have been looking at the WIR savers and get out of debt threads for ages. I'm a pretty frugal person and always have been. In my current situation it is pretty much just that my safety net that has been yanked away. Savings and retirement funds are no longer where they need to be. Also for my entire adult life these things have been handled as a couple and through my DH's employer, etc. Now I begin the challenge of rebuilding them and learning to do it on my own. I know enough to know I don't know enough, so once the financials are settled, I will be setting up an appointment with a highly recommended financial planner. I'm actually kind of excited to start doing this, to be honest. I have a lot of changes coming up this year with a new housing move, expanding my earning capabilities, and the like. I am looking forward to seeing where I am when 2017 rolls in!
You will be "weaving" your own safety net now. May not seem like it right this very minute but it is a liberating feeling to be your own safety net. You sound like you are up to the challenge and I have a feeling by the time 2017 rolls in you are going to be on top!! Heck I give you till 2016 1/2

gracendignity Hey, I know this is a little over thirty days since a reply. But, just a few days. I just wanted to say hello And, that I also hope things are working out well for you in some of these difficult days you must be facing. I'm glad you have the support of family and friends around you. This couldn't be easy for you to do, but sometimes things just need to happen, no matter how difficult they may be. I hope the next step in your life journey is a good one.

Hi, Kolt Thanks for your kind words. I have read much of your intro thread, as well, and I know you have had your own struggles.
My own situation hasn't been a lot of fun but it hasn't been the worst thing in the world, either. I just hated to end a marriage that had lasted my entire adult life. I don't regret marrying and I married the right guy for me; I'm just sorry that our story was one that didn't go all the way to the end. As I've said so often this past year I have so many good things in my life--my family, my friends, my hobbies--the DH just isn't one of them any more.
Sorry for the delay in replying--I've been moving (YAY!) and got up yesterday to a crashed hard drive. So not much computer time.
