Thing 2 went to zumba with me last night and decided she likes it. Now I won't have to go by myself. She wanted to do the treadmill afterwards, so I may have to start doing that afterwards from now on.

I tried the 30DS a few times, but I'm not much of a fan. I guess it's good for a quick workout, but I hate jumping into push-ups when I feel like I still can't do them properly, and I hate jumping around for my cardio. Last time, I hurt my ankles doing it, and my knees started getting sore. Maybe I'll like it better when I'm in better shape. No progress from last Friday, but still better than last Wednesday: 1/7/16 (months before starting) 169 #, 37 " waist (at belly button) 4/16/16 (after first week/3x exercising) 172.4#, 27.4 BMI, 36.4% body fat, 44.9% body water 4/21/16 171#, 27.2 BMI, 36.2% body fat, 45.0 % body water, 36.5" waist, 38" at belly button 4/28/16 170.8#, 27.1 BMI, 36.0 % body fat, 45.2% body water 5/4/16 170.8#, 27.1 BMI, 35.9% body fat, 45.2% body water 5/11/16 170.2#, 27.0 BMI, 35.7% body fat, 45.4% body water 5/18/16 169.8#, 27.0 BMI, 35.6% body fat, 45.3% body water, 34" waist (maybe??), 37.5" at belly button 5/25/16 167.6#, 26.6 BMI, 34.9% body fat, 45.8% body water 6/1/16 166.6#, 26.5 BMI, 34.7% body fat, 46.0# body water 6/8/16 165.8#, 26.3 BMI, 34.1% body fat, 46.4% body waterIntermediate goal: 154 #, 24.9 BMI, 34.0% body fat, 47% body water, 34" waist BIG goal: 127#, 20 BMI, 30 % body fat, 50% body water, 26" waist
I guess I need to focus on the paleo-ish diet I was eating instead of just the calories. I allowed myself extra carbs, and it seemed to set me back. Working on my pilates machine is really working some different muscles than before. I don't know if I'll continue it, though, once DS1 is out of school for the summer. It looks too much like a toy, and I don't want the kids messing around with it and possibly getting hurt. Have you tried modified push ups? Essentially you are set up the same but your knees are on the floor. You still get a decent upper body workout and eventually when you are stronger you can start doing a few "regular" push ups and then go down to doing the rest modified. Work up to doing all regular push ups.
Also silly question but are you wearing sneakers? The first couple of weeks I was just barefoot and wow, that was a really dumb mistake.

That is the modified pushups that I was talking about. I've never been very strong in my arms. I've been working on it, but I'm not magically going to be able to do a proper pushup just because. Not a silly question about the shoes. I have been doing everything barefoot in my living room, as there is carpet (with a pretty cushy pad) in there. I don't have anywhere in my house that I can workout with shoes on. Maybe I will someday after we rip out the carpet in our family room and put in laminate.

I was surprised but wearing sneakers made a huge difference vs barefoot. I was getting some very mild knee pain and also my feet felt weird. So I figured maybe it was being bare foot and I'd try sneakers (not expecting much) but it's a huge difference, the pain went away and I haven't had any new pains pop up. I bought new sneakers that have never been outside for working out inside. Is the clean factor why you wouldn't want to use sneakers on the carpet or is it something else? I think the sneakers will help with any aches and pains you have.

I was doing okay until I did the video when I was tired and probably landing a lot harder than normal. It's partly the clean factor, and partly catching on the carpet. Plus, I have this weird and very strong aversion to stuff rubbing against carpet (think balloons for the static electricity). It's like nails on a chalkboard to me.

I can't motivate anyone.
I haven't done a single workout lately. I've spent the last week worry about my dog, he has surgery tomorrow. I have had to limit his activity so walks are just a few blocks. I have been busy with finishing my job, yesterday was my last day. Today i got lots of walking in, but my fitbit said it was under 10k.
Good news is that my stress eating has mostly disappeared. So at least there is that.

Sarcastic - I hope everything goes well for your doggy today! Good job on eliminating the stress eating! I've been so busy at work this week (training new employees, trying to hit impossible deadlines) plus I have a work event this weekend which will kill all free time on Sunday and then next week looks pretty horrid too. I'm over it. I've been up late, up early, and am just worn out. Good news, though, I've been too busy to have time to eat/snack on all the crappy foods I really want to eat. So I guess that's a win. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Thanks for the well wishes. My bestie is having pre-op blood work and a chest xray and they expect to do the surgery early afternoon, provided everything is clear. They sent me home and will keep me updated. i am only a mile away, so I am fine with that. At least I can distract myself here. If all goes well, he can come home tomorrow. and we will have pathology reports next week. of course this is all costing $5k+ which is not something we need right now... but we'll figure it out!

Well, 1 week of serious effort in the books. Monday: Weights, legs and shoulders. Tuesday: Weights, chest and arms. Thirsday: Swim Friday: Body weight workout, abs and back. Saturday: Swim.
Plus did my typical low-key desk bike at least 45 min every day.
I also tracked my food this week. Little bits during the day I don't input into my tracker, I figure most days they and the deskbike cancel each other out.
Here's hoping I see some results soon!

Adding: I'm hitting it hard for the next two weeks trying to get into some clothes that are a size down so I don't have to go spend a fortune on casual-but-fancy clothes for a work trip.

I'm buying Zumba 2.5 lbs weights from Amazon.ca. I can get them for $25cdn from Amazon or pay $130cdn elsewhere. It's a no-brainer I would say.

I've been reading a lot about how eating good protein and doing exercises is the way to losing weight. I'm doing the exercises, but I definitely need to up the protein, cause I eat hardly any good protein foods. Here's one of the articles, sorry I can only find one. Both IE and Edge suck as browsers. www.eatthis.com/high-protein-metabolism

Well, after all my hard work last week I lost zero pounds this morning. I know it's just a number on a scale, and muscle weighs more than fat and I know I am feeling both smaller and stronger and yada yada yada, but I really could have used the motivation this morning.
Workout tonight - legs for sure, maybe shoulders and arms. And as always my good friend Deskbike.

Weight is finally going back down. I am stilll up about 12 pounds from december... better than 16 though! Hoping to make some great progress in the next few weeks. Feeling energized and renewed after my first day at the new job! It's amazing what a change like this can do for youe outlook as a whole. Oh, and my fur beast is recovering quickly from his surgery. Seriously, I gave him pain meds, not because he appeared to be in any pain, but because i wanted him to calm the eff down! He kept trying to run and jump and play, etc. He is restricted from doing all of that for 2 weeks. We are on day 3. Oy! 9 k steps in so far, gonna hit 10. Have a bunch of stuff to do to get ready for tomorrow! My goal this week is to START the plank challenge!

Yes! I'm down a pound this morning!
Did legs and shoulders last night - was careful to stretch my neck and shoulders this time so I didn't end up with that terrible cramp. Did less weight on the barbell for legs - really crippled myself last week and don't want to do that again. In exchange, upped the workout on my glutes and quads.
Tonight is swimming. Have been doing 1000 yards, but going to try to push to 1200 this time.

Well I swam last night. There was a kid playing in the lanes, almost hit him a couple times. He did get hit by the woman swimming next to me. I saw it was about to happen and shouted "Watch out" but it was too late.
Afterwards, his dad came up to me. I thought he was going to thank me or apologize, but oh no. He lectured me on making his son feel bad and told me I couldn't talk to his son that way. I was flabbergasted, just sputtered at him. FFS, I was annoyed by the kid but I was trying to warn him. I ended up just telling him there are rules in a pool for a reason and the kid could have gotten really hurt doing that. He sat there and have me dirty looks for the whole rest of my workout. Really ruined an otherwise great session for me. Grrr.

Every single time that I hear a song on the radio that I like, I get down on my mat and I do a the plank exercise. I try to do 45 seconds to a minute. I'm down about 5 lbs since I started this.
