We eat steel cut oats every weekday morning. We vary the toppings (cinnamon, raisin and walnut), (vanilla, craisins, almonds), the kids like cinnamon and banana or cinnamon and applesauce. Would any of that work? The oats stay good in the fridge for a week. You can heat up leftovers in the microwave with a little water or milk for some added moisture. Oatmeal is okay. I do steal cut oats with dried fruit and nuts... but I tend to put more fruit in to get it sweeter so my carbs go way up. I also can only eat it once or twice a week... if I try more than that I turn into a toddler try to eat it and refuse. I am such a pain in the ass. I used to put some Greek yogurt in it to add protein and tang... but alas! Sent from my SM-G920T using proboards Maybe try different types of baked or slow cooked oatmeal? I made steel-cut carrot cake oatmeal in the pressure cooker that was pretty good. It was cooked with shredded carrots and apple. I topped it on various days with unsweetened shredded coconut, walnuts, almonds or a touch of syrup.

Also like anything else, at first it tastes weird because it isn't "sweet" but then you get used to it and that taste is normal. Have you used the Lavash wraps? You could do breakfast wraps in those, like avocado and cheese or something like that.

I'm sure you're already on top of dairy subs, but the Almond Breeze unsweetened vanilla milk is really yummy and only has (IIRC) one more gram of carbs than regular milk.

I tend to ditch oatmeal when it gets warm so I will aim to get going on that this week! I used to do a fruit puree in my oatmeal that was pretty good. Thanks for the ideas. I know... no dairy, no eggs, no gluten and limited sugar. I am a pain in the ass!!!!! I do eat butter... and dark chocolate. That is the extent of the dairy I have. Once every couple of months I'll have cheese and it is glorious. I feel awful for 2 days... but so worth it. Thanks everyone for the ideas. I have written them down and will start coming up with some new stuff next week. Sent from my SM-G920T using proboards

sarcasticgirl, I recently bookmarked this page, but have not tried any of the recipes - it's for savory oatmeal. Some of them sound interesting, but I think most of them will not be worth the effort. I want to try the last one with mushrooms. Take a look and see if you find any inspiration. www.shape.com/healthy-eating/meal-ideas/16-savory-oatmeal-recipes

Steps- Hit the goal. 113705. Eating choices not good . Too much junk. Step goal 110,000. Going to work on drinking more water and eating less junk food.
I hit my March step goal and am on pace for yearly goal.
I think some of the weight is water retention.

wait, sarcastic, didn't your DH quit his job? why are you prepping his lunches? second, is there stuff you can both eat? why yes, yes he did. Because left to his own devices, he'd eat a sandwich and chips every damn day, or something equally as unhealthy that requires little effort in thinking or preparation. I prep his lunches so that he eats relatively well. He is doing some side work, so he's usually not home at lunch time. I actually don't mind it at all. It helps me control our budget, and help control his nutrition (I realize I shouldn't need to do this... but it helps me stress less.) I enjoy cooking and being creative and coming up with new ideas. chopping veggies is therapeutic for me. When DH is home on Sunday when I prep (he's sometimes doing some side work) then he helps with chopping and cleaning, unless he's doing laundry. He's not interested in any of my dietary restrictions... and we both have very different things that we like for lunch. We are opposite there. We meet in the middle at salads. however, within those salads we have like 3 veggies in common that we like in salads (including the greens!) Even within fruit (I love everything but bananas and grapefruit) we tend to go in opposite directions as to what we prefer to have daily. he's oranges pears and raspberries, i prefer kiwis, plums, and strawberries. we can share apples. LOL

I was so proud. At 11:15 I was craving junk food. I went and got a glass of water. Crisis averted. Then at 3:30 craving came back. This time I succumbed to the craving. Tomorrow is another day, Now to try to get in a few steps. Total is very disappointing at the moment.

We are having a step challenge this month at work. It's a bit too cold this week for me to want to get out and get my steps in! Too bad the challenge started yesterday and not Sunday, when it was 70 degrees by dinner time DH is either sick with a cold or the fluctuating weather is causing him allergy issues. Either way, he was up at 4am rattling around, making coffee, sneezing, and just generally being noisy. So tired today! And when I get tired, I crave junky food. Fingers crossed I can hold out!

flamingo Hope you fought the junky food crave. Good luck on your step challenge. Even though I have registered more than 15000 steps except for the first day and I am over 13000 steps behind.

Well it's been a shitshow of a week already. Drank too much on Sunday night, woke up with a splitting headache and nausea. Turned out to be a migraine - I haven't had one in a decade! So yesterday was no food no food then ALL THE FOOD once the meds kicked in and the nausea ended. Today I feel like I've gained 10lbs back? I look bigger, I feel huge. I will weigh myself tomorrow morning.

Who is this other person and how do we stop him/her!!! Not sure how to stop her. I am just going to try to get in 15000 steps so that I get 15 points toward my wellness program. This should keep me solidly in second. (Ahead of third place by 61000) Would it be wrong of me to wish she would catch the virus that is going around.

My cold is finally coming to an end... I hope! Last week wasn't horrible, but not great either. The weather is supposed to get better so I plan on getting out and getting more steps. This last week was crapppppy!
Prepping bacon-y lentils... pretty simple, cooked 4 pieces of bacon, sautéed onions and garlic then threw in the lentils. Very simplistic, but tasty. I will have that for breakfast a few days this week. Chicken and wild rice soup (with veggies- celery carrots peas) for lunch. Dark chocolate portioned for snacks as well as gluten free pretzels, hummus and carrots.
I fell short of my step goal last week a bit. I felt awful fighting that cold. Back at it this week. We're hitting our first baseball game of the season and we're a mile from Wrigley and always walk to and from the game. We might take a few walks down there this week just to check out the buzz from the new season starting. Sent from my SM-G920T using proboards

Well, after the last couple weeks I expected to be up, but instead I'm down a lb as of yesterday? I have no idea how, but hey, I'll take it.
I've been a fiend lately, just eating everything I can get my hands on and not tracking. As of yesterday am back on the tracking, so even if I can't keep myself in control with food I'm being honest about it.
