What they did had somewhat a good reason but I wouldn't have done it. Instead of doing that they could rile the neighborhood and township a bit and ask the local building requirements to be modified as to stop the building of McMansions.
Outside of Anapolis there is a little town on the bay that did that for a similar reason. You can buy a property, tear the existing and build new but you cannot enlarge the footprint or go higher than 25' to the tallest point- be it roof ridge or chimney top. Problem solved! Nobody builds McMansions!
3 1/2 months on the market is hardly long enough to be worried about selling!
