This is very serious, the Japanese Nation are in very dire striates right now, 170,000 are being asked to stay indoors, there are 35 million living around Tokyo, and while high levels of radioactivity are not yet there, they are getting some elevated readings. Prayers would be the least one can do that they get this contained and spare these poor people from deadly harm. ------------------------------------------------------- news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ap_on_bi_ge/as_japan_earthquake-------------------------------------------------------------------- Japanese ordered indoors in radiation leak crisis AdChoices By ERIC TALMADGE and SHINO YUASA, Associated Press Eric Talmadge And Shino Yuasa, Associated Press – 1 hr 8 mins ago SOMA, Japan – " High levels of radiation leaked from a crippled nuclear plant in tsunami-ravaged northeastern Japan after a third reactor was rocked by an explosion Tuesday and a fourth caught fire in a dramatic escalation of the 4-day-old catastrophe. The government warned 140,000 people nearby to stay indoors to avoid exposure. Tokyo also reported slightly elevated radiation levels, but officials said the increase was too small to threaten the 39 million people in and around the capital, about 170 miles (270 kilometers) away. In a nationally televised statement, Prime Minister Naoto Kan said radiation has spread from four reactors of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear plant in Fukushima state, one of the hardest-hit in Friday's 9.0-magnitude earthquake and the ensuing tsunami that has killed more than 10,000 people, plunged millions into misery and pummeled the world's third-largest economy. Officials just south of Fukushima reported up to 100 times the normal levels of radiation Tuesday morning, Kyodo News agency reported. While those figures are worrying if there is prolonged exposure, they are far from fatal. Kan and other officials warned there is danger of more leaks and told people living within 19 miles (30 kilometers) of the Fukushima Dai-ichi complex to stay indoors to avoid exposure that could make people sick" ----------------------------------------------- [Click on link to read article]

Dezi, I agree with you. And despite what media and Government sources here say, if anyone believes this does not affect the USA radiation levels, I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale, at a very good price. Many Pacific islands, and I would assume, Australia might also be in for harsh radiation doses depending on prevailing winds.

Good morning Value, watching the news this AM. My thoughts are on the 50 workers who are staying at the site , fighting this thing. As the CNN commentator said , they are there because they are trying to control this event and know they may pay the ultimate price for this, but are doing this for their country, countryman . So brave, dedicated and courageous, I can't think of any thing else to say about their bravery. Remarkable how certain people seem to step forward when faced with catastrophes and stand ready to sacrifice themselves when the need is there. The first responders such as the fireman, police, say 9/11 going to the danger , not away and know here, rather then leave as so many have , they are there, doing all they can to bring this catastrophe under control.

Absolutely, Des. Those are some courageous people to stay and try to fend off a nuclear disaster, knowing it might mean their own lives! Kudos to them for their bravery, and my thoughts are with their families and friends, who must be terrified.
Then, there are those who are all about me, Me, ME!

Yes, you have you wonder, did they kiss their love ones good bye, and tell them they love them all, or have they been on the scene from the beginning of this horror, with little or no communication to family? If one is in the military, we understand the heroics that happen, or are required, but just going to work one morning and winding up in an unbelievable disaster, brings out the best in some. There, but for the Grace of God...........

morning mmhmm...I just did a little google, such a neat tools, came across this , thought some might find comfort in it..think it won't offend anyone. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Prayer for Others O God, the Creator and Preserver of all mankind, we humbly beseech thee for all sorts and conditions of men; that thou wouldst be pleased to make thy ways known unto them, thy saving health unto all nations.
More especially, we pray for our Japanese brothers and sisters and their nation; that it may be so guided and governed by thy good Spirit, that all who profess and call themselves human may be led into the way of truth, and hold the faith in unity of spirit, in the bond of peace, and in righteousness of life.
Finally, we commend to thy fatherly goodness all those, who are any ways afflicted, or distressed, in mind, body, or estate; that it may please thee to comfort and relieve them, according to their several necessities, giving them patience under their sufferings, and a happy issue out of all their afflictions.
{ I made a few changes for the particuler situation}

I believe that if enough reactors go, this could have global consequences....to what degree is the unknown.

I believe it's more of a situation of damned if you do, damned if you don't and really the only logical decision they could make. If they abandon this thing, it's going to blow. They will likely die anyway along with many, many....many more. I wish them all the luck.....they're going to need it.

Prayers indeed. And if you're not tied down to a job- maybe see how you can help. We are praying about this and exploring the option of me heading to Japan. So, maybe you all could pray about that. And think of the benefits for you: I'd be off the boards for a while. ;D

I understand uncontrolled radiation creates mutant plants and mulching will keep down the humongous dandelions that will attempt to grow and swallow up the nuclear sites.

Since this thread is Japan, I have a non disaster question, hope there won't be any upset.
I was just watching a CNN story on a man who was found in a car that got hit with the wave and survived and in interviewing the Doctor, head of the ER, and in the operating room, I notice all are wearing those white gauze masks that we see worn in every day living in Japan, possible other Asiatics areas, seems to be a far east thing.
This is a very advanced country, as advanced or more so on some things then we, and this is medical personnel who are wearing these masks, it really wasn't a operating room they were in surrounded my workers just doing normal medical things and all in the halls, lobbies were wearing them, plus normal street scenes, not near the event, there possible smell of decomposing remains, but cities like Tokyo, just street scenes , very common.
Almost before they take a umbrella or brief case, they make sure they have a mask with them.
What do they know that we don't?

A lovely prayer, des, and one, I'm sure, which will give great comfort to those who believe. It certainly echoes my thoughts, even though I'm not a religious person. I wish the Japanese people the very best, and admire their courage and strength in crisis.

Almost before they take a umbrella or brief case, they make sure they have a mask with them. What do they know that we don't? They know that the nuclear plant techs had to release radioactive steam to relieve pressure at one (or more) of the sites that is in trouble. According to a report yesterday that they were recommending that people keep a washcloth over their nose/mouth even when indoors to hopefully absorb any of this steam before inhaling.

Those disposable paper masks are good for short term protection against spreading germs. I'd be quite surprised if they were anything greater than zero% effective in protecting against radioactive steam particles.

Reported this morning the masks are being reccommended to catch radioactive dust particles before they are inhaled into the body. There is hope that rain moving in will get this dust out of the air.

God Bless and Godspeed to you, in Jesus' name. Windy. I am on a conference call right now with a contractor to head over and do insurance consulting work. He's talking several months, but I know that means years...I'm not sure about that, and I believe the Cruise Director would VETO this anyway...but I'm listening to what they're saying here and praying about it. We still have a lot of ongoing work in Haiti-- the land forgotten over the last several years. 70% of the country is still effectively homeless.

Almighty God, the Maker of everything in Heaven and Earth; the night fades, and every new day comes at Your command. You are good and You do good continually. I thank You that You have taken care of me through the night, and that I am alive and well this morning. Save me, Oh God, from Evil, all this day, and let me love and serve You forever, for the sake of Jesus Christ, Thy Son. Amen.
That's pretty much the start of my day every day. Sometimes, it's more like "thanks for a new day, amen"-- kinda like meal time prayers after school, and before guitar lessons..."God's neat, let's eat. Amen".
The long version is to read a chapter of Proverbs each day. You know there are 31 of them-- it's almost like there's one for each day. Uncanny.
