Good Evening, Friends! Since it's been two months since the MSN boards were officially shut down, I thought it might be appropriate to conduct a little survey - Do you guys like our new community here at Proboards better than the one we had at MSN? I find that I am much more comfortable sharing details about myself and discussing issues with others here, probably because I feel it's "safer" because we aren't on a big, well-known corporate controlled website that can be easily found. Others seem to be more comfortable as well, which can be seen by the number of former lurkers who have come out to play since we moved here. Also, the community in general seems to be more laid back than it was before...People seem more at ease talking about things, and don't seem to be as quick to judge or rip apart someone else's questions or comments. So, I'm voting that I like the Proboards community better! What say you? How have you enjoyed our time here so far?

Please, hands down, Proboards. These forums are well run, mods doing a top rate job... all round professional message forum.

These boards are a HUGE improvement. For the old board, no matter what i did, i could only view it on about 1/3 of the lower screen despite changing settings, downloading mozilla and on and on. This is so nice, user friendly and it seems like a good board to really get to know the personalities of the posters. So, it makes for a nice community. Yeah, I agree...the layout of the old MSN board was a total PITA, and sometimes took ages to load. This one is visually superior IMHO and it works very nicely on my cell phone (which is nothing fancy, so I can't expect great things from it lol) so it makes for much more interesting bus rides!

I like this one better, but I do miss the drive by whackadoodle postings on msn.

Proboards, without question. The MSN forums had probably the worst usability of any professional site I've seen. Huge frames, slow loading times, and lots of annoying banners just killed any desire I had to visit that site. I only wish I had known about this site earlier, as I had left the MSN community soon after the YM redesign went live.

Proboards! I mainly lurked on men and now I've opened the floodgates y'all are alright! And, I do like the layout here much better.

I also like to just run the arrow across and i can read the beginning of the discussion. Snerdley, what's that?

Like Snerdley, I like that you can mouse across the topic and see the first 3 lines or so. I definitely prefer Proboards - I'm less paranoid that a friend or family member will stumble across my posts, and I tend to lurk a lot less here. It also seems a little less harsh than - but still as helpful as - the old MSN. (There were a lot of topics I thought of posting but refrained, thinking I'd be ripped to shreds)

I use my desktop during the day and my netbook at night. I like that proboards keeps track of which threads I've read. MSN must have used a cookie on the PC to keep track, so what was new on my desktop did not match what was new on my netbook.
Even better, if you click on the "new" icon by the thread title, it takes you to the new messages within that thread. That's great!
I do agree with Swamp, though. We are missing out on the drive-by whackadoodles.

Sweet cael, do we need to drag you back to EE? MN-I...I had no idea you could do that with the "new" button, I thought it just showed which threads had new posts. Very cool, I'll be using that! I like it here, moon and virgil have both been great about trying to work with us and put in more features. I do miss some of the posters who can no longer get here during the day though

I prefer the proboards; it's more user friendly here. As someone else said, it's unfortunate that more people can't access the boards during the day.

Blocked at work or something? I haven't worked since these boards came in, so I don't know if that will eventually become an issue for me....Hopefully not! Thanks for the replies so far - This is fun! ;D

I miss MSN. I think that will always be my favorite. But I like Proboards too. MSN boards were kinda like your first girlfriend -- she taught you some things, you had a good time, but you're sure as hell glad you didn't marry her!!

Although I liked the old MSN boards, I like these boards better. They're much more user friendly and everyone seems to be nicer (except for a few - you know who!).
I do miss a couple of the forums that were on MSN like the Credit Counselor one, but for the most part I like the ProBoards better.

I agree with SF -- msn was horribly run and the mods were brutal!!
Taxman, just a point here, it was not really the msn mods per se. There were many other factors at play over there.

Such as.... give us the dirt on the behind scenes!! I want the E! True Hollywood Story on the MSN message board. The heartache, the back-stabbing, the betrayal. :-)

I like it here. YM is less snarky in general. Maybe it's because most of the snarky posters are blocked from work, who knows. I also like how our opinions matter in terms of customizing the site. I feel more treated like an adult on PB. As apple said, I do miss the nicer posters who are blocked by work.

The only negative here is that some very brilliant posters from MSN are not here. They are MTL, Investor_Bob, and MinnesotaGovGuy.
