Now you tell me, when I'm half way through!
There are at least 30 other things to do.
Some people are getting bizarrely fixated about their kitchens (stainless steel everything), open plan and wood floors throughout the house.
I love my house, but I don't have to be a slave to tomorrows fashions.
Elegant, lived in and comfortable.

Well, as long as it has granite.

OMG!!!!! That absolutely nailed House Hunters. Hysterical!!!!!! For the longest time, they only filmed in Canada, so too often, it didn't reflect my own market. Now they film down the south. They have done a few shows here in Boston, but I think our market is just too ridiculously high and would scare most first-time buyers ANYWHERE away from buying. Well, if you can't be perfect, you might as well be a bad example...

I should add that I do totally enjoy House Hunters International. I travel vicariously through that show. Fortunately, they must force the buyers to see at least one property that is more traditional to the area. I just love to see how folks live in other parts of the world.

That's the primary reason I watch HHI. Interesting to see how others live.

I grew up and currently live and work in Boston-I want a house in the Back Bay/Cambridge area. I want granite countertops. Preferably 3 bedrooms with a master bedroom bathroom suite. I want an open floor plan but with a formal dining room-wood floors in all the rooms along with a majestic working fireplace Crown moldings throughout the house. I need at least 1/2 acre of property, fully landscaped. I also need a two-car garage with an attached workshop. The backyard should include an efficiency guest house. My budget is $100,000 with a max of $110,000. Show me at least three properties with all I want for the price I am willing to pay. That is plenty of money for this area."

My pet peeve is on the list. Everyone says we like to "entertain" and it drives me bonkers. Doesn't anyone just say we like to have friends over? Nope, everyone says "entertain" and it sounds so pretentious.

I always want to know what the people "do" for a living and how much they actually make. The houses they are looking at always look way too expensive for first time homebuyers, even before they bring in a construction crew and start ripping the house apart.
Our first house was in the city of Milwaukee, It was a nice house, but lots of people I knew would not have considered the neighborhood we lived in.
First house - Vinyl Floors, Tile countertops, very old lime green carpeting (lived there 7 years and never changed it). 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, Unfinished basement with a full bath roughed in and unfinished upstairs. Postage stamp backyard and a 2.5 car detached garage. DH finished the bath in the basement, added a family room to the basement, and added 2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor. The definition of a "fixer upper".
2nd house. A foreclosure - maliciously damaged. Vinyl floors that looked like someone had walked across them with cleats, the neighbors said they locked the house up with the dogs in the house and let them die in the house. House really smelled. We had to replace all the carpet in the house. There was some drywall damage DH had to repair. There was a "wild flower garden" in the front of the house. Our move in present from the city was a bill for cutting the garden down. It was about $300. They said they notified the prior owners, it did not matter than they did not notify us - we owed the $$. DH added topsoil and over seeded the whole yard.
Current house we built and we have lots of sweat equity in this one too. I really don't get young people who have a long list of everything they want in a house and no desire to put any sweat equity into getting there. We have lived in this house 10 years. I was talking to my neighbor yesterday, and we both said we have no desire to do anything more to our houses/yards, not even to buy furniture or paint. Although we were all out doing fall landscape cleanup/replanting.

And the budget to find another home is almost always higher then the budget to renovate the existing home. There is always a hidden problem that forces Hillary to take something off the wish list. So much drama, especially before the final answer.

In the tradition of being politically correct, HGTV has started using another new term. No longer satisfactory to call it the Master Bedroom and bath, it is now "Owners Suite". <GAG>

I call House Hunters "The Whiners". I have never seen a bigger bunch of spoiled children. Except maybe those on Property Brothers.

I call House Hunters "The Whiners". I have never seen a bigger bunch of spoiled children. Except maybe those on Property Brothers. I have seen a few couples that are very likable. Good personalities with a sense of humor. Then there are the individuals who make you wonder how their spouse/partner puts up and stays with them. Finally, the couples who deserve each other as they are both so spoiled and awful.

And if I have to hear one more person tell the Property Brothers that they're just not at all interested in a fixer upper......... I always have the urge to scream at the tv at that point.

Careful Tenn! Your posting material mentioning "Man Caves" with NO equal time given for the "She" Shack!! You'll end up on somebodies list for sure.....

Yes but let's be realistic - certain areas/rooms are going to draw different people. A library would be my space. DH would take any room that has a decently large screen tv in it.

Realistically, to me, if the kids rooms are big enough for them to play in, I get the rest of it to myself anyway. I need my space now and then, but not so much that I need a whole separate room dedicated to that. ETA: my "library" surrounds the decently sized tv

My library got turned into a kid room. Sigh. Right now, for my kids, being sent to their rooms alone is a fate worse than death. Which I really don't get but on Sunday I didn't care, I just needed them to leave me alone after the debacle that was the grocery store after church.

It's coming. Meantime, there's wine. And a few deep breaths. I still won't take the 11 year old shopping with me unless it's for something I need him for, like shoes. lol

I will not do Target with the kids anymore. I don't care what we need and/or what we're out of. It's the 6th Circle of Hell as far as I'm concerned. Whine, whine, beg, beg, plead, demand. I've lost my patience and temper too many times. On the up side, I'm no longer spending $100-$150 at Target every month...

Totally laughing. It always cracks me up when Property Brothers show the couple the over the top perfect house & they think it's the one they get. Have you never seen the show people?? It is always a bait & switch. That said, I still like the show.

It is always a bait & switch. That said, I still like the show. I saw an episode fairly recently (during a marathon when I was home sick) where the wife pointed that out. And the house wasn't that far out of their budget, if I recall correctly. I was surprised they didn't edit her comment out.

School district is another one that can get fun. I saw one recently where they opened with a good school district was hugely important and by the end it was "must stay in same school district." Except the kid was 3 and in day care. I admit, I'm assuming that the day care ISN'T part of the school system so either way there's going to be a new place, new teachers and new kids when school starts.
