Being sick sucks! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/sad.png)
Lots of hot toddies and plenty of feeling sorry for yourself. Oh and make your husband the sick person's slave. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)
Hope you feel better soon!

Years ago I used to take a shot of nyquil with a stiff drink and then sleep it off. Rinse and repeat for a couple of days and you're good as new. I haven't been that sick in a long time though.

It feels like all the mucous membranes in my head are swollen. And it migrated to my chest.

Nyquil's not that great anymore, it wouldn't be nearly as helpful as the stiff drink. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png)

Well, I'm now on an inhaler, antibiotics, nasal spray, and steroids.
So that's something...
I feel kind of human. Like, a gross, dying human, but that's a step up from earlier this week, so I'll take it. If only I could get rid of the steroid rage though. I keep yelling at everyone and it's making me lose my voice. Annoying.

With a pharmacist hubby aren't you supposed to be some sort of immune to the goo?

Went to the doctor last night and was prescribed an inhaler and the "good" cough medicine. Filling it now. ☺

Do you know the correct way to use one? (say's the asthmatic who had to show her father the right way to use his inhaler because his primary care physician didn't ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/angry.png) ). ETA - sorry you're feeling like crap but glad you went to get some help!

MJ2.0 - I don't know what you were prescribed, but it's usually 2 hits X number of times a day. You want to exhale gently, then breath in as deeply and evenly as you can inhaling the puffer as you press one hit. Hold you breath for at least 15 seconds, (30 is better if you can do it), to give your lungs a chance to absorb the medicine. Exhale slowly, do not let your breath out in a gust (a heavy gust expels more of the medicine than a gentle breath out). Wait a minute (this is where most people do it wrong) to let the first round of medicine do it's job and dilate your bronchial tubes. That will allow more of the medicine from the second puff to get deeper into your lungs and really open them up. Once a minute has passed, do the second puff the same way as the first. Taking two hits, one right after the other, does not get twice the medicine into your lungs and it doesn't go as deep as it could. It wasn't until my second hospitalization that a respiratory therapist taught and explained this to me. Both my primary care physician and my pulmonary physician didn't go over this with me. I'm guessing the first didn't know and the second assumed I'd already been taught since I had the inhalers already. Also, since I'm on a mini soap box - don't use too much. It's tempting if you're not breathing well, but too much of that stuff can kill you. If you're having to use more than prescribed you need to get the medication changed. Sorry to sound like a mother hen, but I see this stuff being mis-used way too often. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Believe me, I read the directions twice before using it, lol! I just did it - was prescribed 2 hits every 4 hours. Followed the directions to a tee and they were basically what you said. It did something because my coughs became way more productive.

I keep yelling at everyone and it's making me lose my voice. Annoying. Almost the same here. Antibiotics, steroid nasal spray and saline solution. I also bought a vaporizer, which helps. I officially have sinusitis at this point. Drugs are helping. Today was the first day I could eat without choking on food. The frustrating thing about all this is that I do not feel that bad. Just that my head wants to leave the rest of my body. And of course, I had to keep my colonoscopy appointment yesterday, sounding like crap. Small wonder I was getting funny looks from the surgery center staff. And that was before they saw the photos of my butt. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/shucks2.png)
