it's been so long since I went out, when do parents bring the little kids around? I'm shocked I haven't seen anyone yet. it's definitely past dusk here now, it's dark.
I'm bummed.....I hope I get some kids....
ETA: whatever is left of the candy bowl, I'm going to put it out on the front step when I leave to go out to my roommate's show tonight.

Something for your kids (and adults) who are allergic to dairy, soy and eggs.
Google "depression cake." It is amazing, moist, delicious chocolate cake that contains none of those ingredients.
Or try king arthur flour's original cake pan cake. It's another version of it.
Sorry, I don't have a corresponding frosting that doesn't include at least one of them. There are lots of frosting that leave out one or the other, but not all three that I am familiar with.
I'm not a fan of frosting in general, I serve it dusted with powdered sugar.

We call it "chocolate cake" here but it is in an allergy-friendly cookbook as "3 Hole Cake".
It is our go to for just about anything requiring a dessert. It is actually pretty tasty -- one wouldn't know it wasn't an eggy cake.
One option for frosting is to melt dairy-free, tree-nut-free, soy-free, gluten-free chocolate (chips, chunks, whatever) and spread those over the cake -- it is sort of like a thick ganache.

Hmmm, I was wrong. Depression cake is different from our chocolate cake.
The ingredients for our chocoalte cake are flour, cocoa, baking soda, salt, sugar, canola oil, water, vanilla, and vinegar.
You get the "three hole" name from how the wet ingredients are added to the dry.

Very interesting article on 'food allergy fakers'. Those people suck.
For those who suffer from egg allergies, there are plenty of eggless recipes out there.
The focaccia bread I occasionally make consists of flour, salt, olive oil, yeast, and whatever spices I want to add to it.
You can make pasta with semolina flour, all-purpose flour, and water.
This doesn't help the people with gluten allergies, but there are options for people out there who can't handle eggs.

Very interesting article on 'food allergy fakers'. Those people suck. For those who suffer from egg allergies, there are plenty of eggless recipes out there. The focaccia bread I occasionally make consists of flour, salt, olive oil, yeast, and whatever spices I want to add to it. You can make pasta with semolina flour, all-purpose flour, and water. This doesn't help the people with gluten allergies, but there are options for people out there who can't handle eggs. I've become a pro at feeding YDS without the use of eggs. Don't get me wrong: I miss eggs. But, we still eat really well without them. I bake constantly and use both eggless recipes and egg replacer (NOT egg substitute: that is just egg whites). Egg replacer is a mix of potato starch and tapioca. Mixing it with water binds the ingredients during baking just like egg does. It's not so great with chocolate recipes, but it is imperceptible in most others.
