I considered this film pornographic and thus the word Kids should not appear in the title. I enjoyed the film so I get that it was a part of the Academy Awards. I just think there are many people out there in video stores who see the word Kids and rent to take home for the family to watch. Hollywood could have made the same film minus...

I would think the (R) rating would deter parents from picking it up to watch with their kids. personally, I could have done without the action myself, it didn't add anything to the story for me, but I'm sure the screenwriters had a reason for having it there.

I'm pretty sure most parents know the difference between a genere or section in a video store and a movie title. I'd hope that anyone as dense as you claim learned their lesson with the movie Kids. I like the subtle title. The Kids Are Alright.... then unstated: it's the adults who've got issues.
I can't help by recall an old Simpson's quote. "I can think of two things wrong with that movie title" as Bart leaves a theatre showing Naked Lunch.
I don't think an R was wrong for this movie. It's probably possible to trim it down to a PG13... but why, it wouldn't increase their demographic at all. It's also common knowlege that Julianne Moore always gets nekkid.

people are amazingly stupid...but there isn't much that can be done about it. I remember seeing parents take their toddlers to see Bad Santa. The person at the ticket window kept saying, "you realize this is NOT a kids movie...it's rated R!"

I remember refusing to sell tickets to Asian families (?!?) that wanted to see Romeo Must Die. um, really? you want to take you 4-year-old to this? no. wait for video, so your child has a place to escape to when the blood and guts come out. thankfully, my managers agreed with me. just because Jet Li is in it....it's ok, your kids can wait until they are older to see it for themselves.
