Do you have a something special you would do if money were no object to it? Right now I just watched the 25th anniversary Les Mis concert from last November in London. And found out that the new Jean Valjean (Alfie Boe) will be starring in the West End this summer. If money were no object, I'd love to book a ticket to London and see him in Les miserables in person' Do you have any little extravagant dreams?

Great thread! It's great to dream a little, isn't it? I'd travel extensively, but probably only 3 times a year and only first-class travel and luxury hotels. I'd do tough hikes to scenic vistas and come back for a spa date. I'd eat out each night at the best Michelin restaurants. I'd give big grants to my favourite charities and have big plaques of my name emblazoned on their walls. I would do the show "Secret Millionaire." I'd pay off my favourite politicians to be transparent, speak the unvarnished truth and not pull shenanigans, with the condition of the money being pulled if they didn't. I'd play patron to my talented BIL, who's an amazing artist and my skincare specialist's only child, who recently won an award at an international arts show! Yay, it'll be awesome

My dream is to get my helicopter license. That in itself isn't too bad over time, but if money was no object I'd purchase one to be able to fly when I wanted after I achieved the license

If money were no object, I'd pay off my sister and brother's mortgages, immediately move to a nice condo on Marco Island for the rest of the winter, and buy us a place on Lake Michigan for the summers. We would travel around the world. I would get my sister-in-law a liver transplant. She is dying of cancer which has gone to her liver. We went to see her yesterday. Boy, that was sad. I would pay for the advanced education of at least 50 promising kids. I would buy our daughter a house and give her enough money to finish up her masters degree, and enough over that so that she would never have to worry again. I would get myself a horse at long last.

I want to visit both the North Pole and the South Pole. There is a company that actually does cruises to the North Pole (to the tune of $22,000+ per person ) so maybe one day that could be done...But I think I'd have to have much, much more than that - and some good connections - in order to get to the South Pole. But still...It's a big dream of mine. It would be wild

I have a fantasy of chartering a trip to Ireland for my extended family. That - along with underwriting the college educations of the kids in said extended family - is my plan for the lottery winnings I'm sure I'd get if I weren't too cheap to play the lottery.

Are we talking one thing or a complete lifestyle? My answer would be different for each.
The one thing would be a three month Sabbatical (or vacation, if you like). I have long wanted to take a road trip to Alaska, driving from the southern US to as close to the Arctic Circle as I could. A nice winding road with lots of 2-3 day stops on the way and the way back. Take a new laptop and digital camera. Perhaps blog the journey. Call it "The Old Woman's American Pilgrimage".
Yes, I have maps and itinerary all plotted out. It's in a notebook in my desk drawer. I talked about it with my son once and he almost had a hissy fit. "Ma, you're almost sixty!" Cheeky boy!

If money was no object, first, I'd quit my job. I'd take long trips around the US & Canada with an RV seeing all the things I've wanted to see. I'd buy the acreage on a hill in the woods down the road that's for sale and build my little dream house with another small house for my daughter & grandson and a little cabin for my dad that they could afford to live in on their incomes and be my neighbors. I'd enjoy being a stay-at-home grandma for at least half days (my grandson loves going to play with his friends at preschool, so I'd let him continue to enjoy that, just not all day long).

When I started this thread, I was thinking of just one thing. Do you have a sort of random extravagance that you wish you could do? Something whimsical?

You'll love it - we've driven the AK Highway 4 times - and we're 12 yrs into our Sabbatical. I'd pay off my favourite politicians to be transparent, speak the unvarnished truth and not pull shenanigans,
But if they accepted the pay off, wouldn't that make them crooks? And then you couldn't believe their 'unvarnished' truth?

Take 2 months off work and follow my favorite band around the country. I have a few friends who are into the Avett Brothers and have gone to 30+ concerts over the past couple of years - I'm not really an Avett fan, but the concept seems like a lot of fun.

take an extended vacation in Europe-like 2-3 months. See the Lippazans (sp?) in Vienna.

Well, since I'm currently living on a semi-tropical island in the Pacific....I want to go to multiple Asian countries since we are so close. We are super close to Taipei and I'd like to see Thailand, I did want to go to Tokyo but that might be a no now, Australia, and whatever else I could fit in.

I would buy a brand new Ford Shelby GTO Mustang with every option in screaming yellow. YES! (I drive a screaming yellow Ford Mustang, but it's not a Shelby GTO!)

If money were no object, I'd set up a non-profit organization to provide free spay/neuters for dogs and cats in my city, as well as free vaccinations. I'd also set up and fund a TNR program (Trap/Neuter/Release) and I'd set up a No-Kill shelter to (hopefully) replace our high-kill local animal shelter.
And I'd run my air conditioning all summer long at 70 degrees. (happy sigh)

I would cure world hunger and that includes pure water.
I know, the birth rate of the world would skyrocket.

Pay off my house, do the things landscaping wise and inside that I still want to do.
Follow Paul McCartney on tour if he tours again--go to every show with the $2K VIP package, that I absolutely cannot afford now.

DVM We saw the Lipizzaners in Vienna two years ago. You have two choices: a much more expensive evening performance, or a much less expensive morning ticket to a "rehearsal/workout". We opted for the latter. If / when you go feel free to PM me and I'd be happy to look up the info for you.

Other "little" things I would do: Always fly first class. Always have front row concert tickets Have a weekly, maybe even daily massage.

I would buy several large old prarie tractors and put them in a big new building on my property. I just love those things. Then I would buy a condo next to Disney World and use my private jet to be flown back and forth whenever I felt like it.

I'd pull an Eat, Pray, Love and spend a few months in a few different countries. Greece would be one. And Spain. And the South of France I think.

I always told my husband if I came upon a RIDICULOUS amount of money I'd want to put in a lazy river around our house. We only have a 1/4 acre so it isn't like it would fit into our neighborhood or anything but it is something I've always loved to do in the water parks and would love to have even though it is obviously a ridiculous idea!
