I just read an extensive polling analysis of political parties and issues, and it concluded that Democrats are (nationally- traditionally district by district there may be different battle lines- and this study noted that) basically back to where they were in 1984.
They are once again seen as weak on foreign policy- they are 1 percentage point above their post George McGovern low.
They are seen as incompetent on domestic energy production.
They are viewed by 79% of voters as the party that most supports welfare spending
Democrats are at 81% in the statement "The Party of Big Government Is" and one of the choices was the Socialist Party. Ouch.
I wish I could find it- I read the hard copy at my attorney's office today. Whew! It was pretty bad.
It concluded (and by the way it was conducted by a liberal think tank) that if Obama doesn't "significantly improve his message" and begin to attract independent voters again- he will have trouble carrying a single state

A 50-state landslide would be historic. I hope it happens. As it stands I'm predicting at least a 40-state landslide regardless of who the Republicans run...

Interesting. I feel like I have no representation right now as I am definitely for small goverment and significantly less spending but don't really want to be associated with the wacko, religious spouting right- wing either. I bet there are a lot of people like me.

And yet they still have a 4% party identification advantage over republicans? ...
I'd love to read it... if you actually ever find it... Thanks.

Disaffected and disenchanted for that matter. Sigh, I am not even a registered voter because I won't vote republican until they get onboard with being pro-choice and stop the religious nonsense. But, I can't vote democrat either because I am not onboard with the outrageous spending and entitlement programs.

and your not voting will influence people to represent you... how? .... How many letters and phone calls do you put out in a week? How many town hall events do you attend in a year?

Absolutely. I think 40 states would vote for Snooki if it meant not having Barack Obama in a position where he can keep destroying this country...

None. I choose to do nothing and accept the consequences...hence, the disenchantment.

If you really think about it, it is not Obama that is really the problem. I mean, he is a likeable guy. It is the fringe radical lunatics he has appointed to positions of authority that is the problem.

You're forgetting the ultra left wing left coast and dem stronghold states. Most will never come back to center, never mind to the right. It all depends on the candidates out here on the Left Coast. Barbara Boxer came close to losing to Carli Fiorini who had tons of baggage and Jerry Brown was almost beaten by Meg Whitman who spent tons of megabucks to try and beat him ....California's economy is in rough shape with @ 15% unemployment and state taxes going up again so the dem stronghold may be weakening quite a bit lately ....and Obama is NOT as popular out here as he was in 2009 if you read all the newspaper editorials lately that think he is vulnerable to losing CA in 2012 because of our high unemployment numbers here.. The SF Chronicle did NOT endorse Barbara Boxer last fall and suggested she retire from the senate because of her incompetence and I would NOT be surprised if they say the same exact thing about Obama...

You think every vote is counted properly? There are a lot of uncounted votes and mishandling of the ballots. Last year there was a lot of factual information about this(I am sure I can find you some if you can't yourself). Yes going to town meetings can be informational, but I am curious as to if any of our representatives have actually created or passed legislation based on any of our town hall meetings( I would like to read some proof on this). Granite I agree if you don't try then how will you know if it couldn't have happened, then again I agree with doing some productive and enjoying your life instead of thinking politicians will actually act on your ideas instead of the money they get from lobbyist.

Obama is just the pretty star on the tree, he is just something shiny to look at. His use is not much more than a hand puppet used for entertainment for the children. All of his advisers like Summers, Geithner and appointed Bernanke were consulting, influenced, or bought out by the big banks\investment firms. Guess what? The banks still own the people of the U.S. even if we slap regulations on them, why? Because they own the people that make the regulations, hence they make the regulations.

I think he's one of the worst speakers in recent memory. He's an uhh ummer, and most of the time he isn't even coherent. His SOTU this year was flat. And I frankly think he is a rather cold, not very nice, and definitely not a likeable guy. I think he is an angry little man and the more he loses, the more he's gonna crack and show us who he really is. And I think he's surrounded by kook fringe radicals because frankly-- he IS one.

Yea I have and we are becoming extinct out here on the Left Coast....I think most moved to Arizona or Nevada.. But will always have the Ole Gipper to reminsce about from time to time or watch his old movies on TCM or TNT... I just watched "Knute Rockne All American" and "All The Kings Men" and Reagan was not too bad as an actor in the 40s..

Anyone who isn't Barack Hussein Obama is viable. Beating Obama is going to be easy, the only question is how big a landslide is it going to be, and that depends on how much further the Obama tailspin goes between now and next November...

Do the Republicans have any announced candidates yet?? Are they all just sticking their big toe in the political waters and have not decided to jump in yet??
David Axelrod, James Carville, and Paul Begalla who are all dem campaign managers seem to think that there is a possibility that the DNC may want to go with someone else for the Presidency in 2012 if the economy doesn't improve in the next two years.. Governor Randell of Pennsylvania has said that if unemployment numbers range from @ 8 to 9% in 2012 there is no way the country would elect another democrat as president.....because the actual unemployed would be much higher than that ...so we shall see what happens I guess?? I don't know about the hype and spin by Axelrod, Carville and Begalla because they are Hillary fans but Randell is a very savy politician and could be right on..

ed... you are just not being realistic here... it doesn't do any good not to be logical about it...
I don't think anyone has formally announced yet? There was word Gingrich would announce, and he and Santorum are off Fox... presumably because they are thinking to announce soon. I've also heard Romney, Daniels, Cristie, Barbour, Huckabee, Palin and Bauchman tossing around the idea... a few others less well known...
But no, i don't think any are formally announced yet... but of those on the list, i'm not sure any of them have the ability to take the thing? ... Some have a stronger chance than others... but none is without faults, and all are going to be regionally strong, but not nationally... unless there is a team there that might work?

I don't think West is nationally viable (thank goodness...) ... Since Connie Mack's great great grandfather comes up before him on a google search ( i didn't know who that was?), i'm thinking he might not have enough noticability... although for VP i guess that is not as bad an issue... but i'm thinking repubs will have to run a team to be viable... not sure a relatively unknown VP is going to cut it here...
ed... you are kidding yourself if you think half of those names could beat Obama... I'm not sure any of them can... but i'm sure quite a few can not...

"............ I don't think West is nationally viable......"
There are probably a lot of people who think that way. Nobody has ever gotten ALL the votes. But he's another black man. The ice has been broken. The glass lid has been lifted off the black as a political also-ran. After the tragedy of Obama's tutelage West might be just what the country could use. Everything Obama has initiated has either failed in it's purpose or has cost more than it has delivered. He picks and chooses what federal laws he wants to enforce, which not only disenfranchises the people who depend on those laws, (border security, immigration, voting rights, taxpayer funded state employee unions, , , Wisconsin may have national implications but it is not a federal issue, it is a state issue, , a Wisconsin issue, , , , , ), and he pulls out the guidebook on how to sue anything or anybody who tries to pick up the slack he leaves in the laws he won't enforce. It all goes to make everybody nervous about which direction he will lean tomorrow. ad infinitum, , , , , West is an open book. With him you get what you see, and you hear what he is. He doesn't speak from notes or read somebody else's prepared text. He speaks with a knowledge of the subject and he looks you in the eye whiile doing it. He is a breath of fresh air by comparison.
Does he have the experience needed to be president? He has a background of experience that Obama could only read about, who apparently never showed an interest in serious reading about the characteristics required of an effective leader. Instead of learning to be an effective leader through thick and thin, his associating with followers of the Saul Alinski school of politics is what brought us Obama. Hardly what he advertised himself to be.
Connie Mack? Yes, he can claim the heritage of THAT Connie Mack. That in itself gives him a leg up on almost any other name waiting in the wings.

On that note I saw Obama tonight honoring the Chicago Blackhawks for winning the Stanley Cup last season and all he could do was read from a script and say a couple of small one-liners off script. Like he can't even speak directly to a bunch of hockey guys about winning a championship. Pretty much shows you what you're getting here. An empty suit. Worse even, one that actually does real damage.
