Count me in...since my divorce I have gained considerable weight (who the hell does thatlol) and am now ready to get it off and get back to my sexy self!
My biggest issue is now that I'm single I go out a lot with friends or dates and have alcohol, chips and salsa and just otherwise bad food choices.

Miss Tequila, Buffalo wings or (bacon-wrapped) jalapeno poppers are frequently touted as low-carb friendly appetizers. Is there a Korean BBQ spot nearby you can lure your friends or dates to?

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, no Korean bbq spots (sound yummy!) but we have lots of wing places....and when I'm really into low-carbing that's what I eat. I just need to get back on the program. Ive been drinking a lot of margaritas, chocolate martinis, etc....definitely NOT diet friendly!lol

I need to cut carbs from my diet as well. I am a carb whore! I gained 20 pounds living in Italy from all the amazing pasta, bread, and wine. Count me in as well. I have a few Paleo cookbooks, but I haven't really tried many of the recipes yet. There are a lot of low carb friendly places around here, so that shouldn't be a problem. My big problem, well besides the fact that I love my carbs, is my family. They aren't big meat eaters and it is hard to prepare meals they will eat that are also low carb for me. Any suggestions?

imanangel, my suggestions vary on how you want to go with your low-carb/paleo eating. High-fiber and close to zero-carb vegetables you can heap high on your family's plates and yours. You could elect to go very low carbohydrate (<20 grams), very high fat (60-80% calories from fat), and limit the meat. You could make variants of taco salad every night and your family could grab most of the veggies, and you'd have the ground meat with a bit of bacon, cheese. Or eggs. Lots and lots of eggs. My two nifty ideas for getting more fats into the system are: - coconut oil and heavy cream blended with hot, fresh coffee. With those fats I gulp down my Omega-3 and Vitamin D3. Tastes like a great breve. - whipping cream and 1/2 tsp vanilla in a big bowlish mug, again using my second fave handheld device, the immersion blender, and dipping berries into the whipped cream.

Small, mini meals help me get back on track:
2 boiled eggs tuna w/ mayo slices of deli meat or pepperoni 1/2 cup cottage cheese 28 almonds (yes, I count them) another egg/cucumber with blue cheese dressing/celery with cream cheese chicken or beef for supper
Rinse and repeat as necessary

I'm wearing size 10 slacks today, for the first time in at least three years. No muffintop. I haven't lost weight for two months though.

PauletteG, thank you so much for this! I received an immersion blender for my birthday earlier this year, but hadn't thought of using it to whip heavy cream. I did last night and I was shocked at how quickly it does the job! My strawberries were happy.

I tried low-carbing, but I just can't do it. Too many fresh baguettes, hot, fresh bagels from the wood-burning ovens, and buttery croissants on every corner. I'm a bread junkie.

Me too, only I consider myself an addict. I am convinced my body is allergic to yeast/flour/gluten, etc. etc. etc. You know, all the good stuff.

I've now become one of those who rhapsodizes about low-carb diets two minutes into meeting people. I don't even bring up the subject of diet or weight loss, the people who do are women who ask if I'm vegan or vegetarian or who don't eat meat. Then I tell them how bacon, eggs and coconut oil led me to shed 20 lbs in two months. The one guy I met yesterday who's diabetic eats low-carb completely gets it.

I watched episodes 1 and 3 of an intriguing miniseries produced by BBC, "Doctor in the House." In Manchester, a doctor takes official leave of absence for a radical new approach to health: instead of 10-minute sessions with his patients, he instead couch-surfs in the homes of families with health complaints (diabetes, iron deficiency, menopause, severe obesity, above-average genetic risk of cancer). He sends them off for physical exams, tosses out their snack foods, monitors the men's new high-intensity interval training exercises. The doctor, a 2-metres tall Rangan Chatterjee, shows them how to do squats while cooking, and counsels a low-carb diet. The diet works wonders, especially in episode 3, yet amusingly has the mainstream dietitians of the UK in a tizzy.
Dr. Chatterjee is direct in his questioning. The families, brave to put their home interiors and physical complaints on broadcast, earn a lot of respect in their courage and willingness to change habits under the doctor's supervision.

I probably should have asked this earlier (I think I have an hour before the supermarket closes): what low carb treats do you have for New Year's Eve? I found a low-carb nut mix one can apply Worcestershire sauce, unsalted butter, and seasoning salt to a variety of raw, unsalted nuts (cashews, Spanish peanuts, almonds, Brazil nuts).
Actually, I think I could get away with some pistachios as we escort 2015 out the door...

PauletteG, sorry, I stopped receiving notices for this thread. Happy New Year! Let's see..... For New Year's Eve we had Chinese take out. Yup. I was off the wagon for the holidays, and most of December. And, my body suffered from it and is slowly recovering. I purged the pantry of off plan foods several weeks ago, am focusing on water intake, using a food tracker for carb count purposes, preparing my eggs and lunches, planning suppers, and using the treadmill again. For the Super Bowl, I will have low carb items such as Atkins chili, chili flavored pistachios and pork rinds. I'd like to try and make bacon wrapped mozzarella for the first time, but we'll see. As of this week I've reduced alcohol intake, much to my chagrin, right Miss Tequila? LOL. But, it's the only way ketosis will set in. I've begun the initial stages of starting a local walking group via Facebook. The goal will be to meet several mornings a week up at the local high school track in the spring. Right now it's covered in snow. How is everyone doing?

I have been doing terribly at dieting...alcohol is one of my main downfalls...and with alcohol comes poor food choices!
Ok, we got this!

One thing I'd like to share: Trainer Heidi Powell posted last week on her Facebook page when it comes to water, drink 10 gulps each time. IDK about gulps, but I've been counting sips/swallows since Friday night, and it really seems to help my attention span in this regard.

I lost 20 kgs in two months after giving birth. It was easy - what was hard was maintaining the low carb diet. Any tips for this time round?
