Good Lord, is my MIL going to invite herself over on Saturday? Ugh, I bet she is. My BIL is coming up for the day to help DH build our deck. She will do little but interfere, but I bet she comes and hangs out most of the freaking day.

Can you create a diversion? A most of the day activity for you MIL and kids . . . just don't tell her it is all day away from home

She says she wants to see the kids, but spends most of the time talking to her son(s), and me too. Hey! It gets even better! She invited her sister and sister's husband over to see my nieces. My boys are finally getting over the flu after a week. Let's just say, my house isn't exactly company ready.

I'm sorry, too. In this situation, my DIL frequently switches the locale to my house. She will say, "The kids have been sick, and housekeeping has been minimal. Let's have fun at your house instead." That's cool with me. Any chance you can suggest that you take the kids to see her and the others at HER house to "keep from bothering those working on the deck"?? It is worth a try. I could try, but it's not going to happen. MIL has just a small 1 bedroom apartment. The kids won't want to hang there, and she wants to see my BIL.

I already started. I had to stop at the store, came home and cracked one open. It's not normal for me to do that, but why not?

They all want to come to see my BIL and his kids since he lives 6 hours away. Maybe I will suggest they all go to MIL's place instead. Hmmm, worth a try.

I've found that sometimes the shock of a vivid description of why something is a bad idea helps - "you may pick up the horrible smelly puking bug that the kids have. I'm STILL airing the house out and I'm not sure that the youngest is completely over it yet"

Kids love that kind of thing. That alone may convince her to keep her keester at home.

I hear ya, but this isn't the pukey flu. If it is the flu, it's straight up influenza or something. I don't know, really. They haven't hardly eaten during the worst of it, while the fevers were continuing, some snot towards the end. Headaches and sore throats, according to DS1.
Maybe i could say, if you catch this, you'll be miserable for over a week. BIL will probably cancel his plans to come up here if he hears that though. I want him to come, but don't want to have a party at my house while the kid is still recovering.

Poor kid up and fell asleep on the kitchen floor. (Please ignore the cheap-ass "temporary" peel-and-stick floor tiles.) He never does this.

Aw, poor little tyke. You can clean around him, or push him around a bit and maybe he'll pick up some dust bunnies for you.

Okay, this might not be so bad. They're supposed to go to the park that's a 1/2 block from my house. They'll still stop by, but at least I don't have to host a whole party. (I think )

My MIL only visits her daughter, my SIL, when we're there because she wants to see my DH. I feel bad whenever we're there, she always wants to come over and none of us want to deal with her, esp not SIL. The only other time she wants to go to SIL's is to use the pool in the summer, she doesn't even go willingly to visit her grandsons. She's a real piece of cr-I mean, work. So on behalf of people-who-attract-unwanted-visits-from-annoying-relatives, I'm sorry!

Okay, after MIL arrived, she tells us that aunt and uncle aren't coming because aunt got busy this week and uncle has some health issue. WTF?? Nice to tell us ahead of time! Anyway, she and FIL are divorced. FIL is very recently widowed, and MIL is dressed up for this non-party where everyone else is sweaty from working on the deck. Hmmm. Hope to God she doesn't think he'd take her back after she dumped him. No doubt she realizes how easy she had it when they were still together, and he bought her anything she wanted. Now, she is broke, broke, broke, and it's all her own fault.

Men can be stupid. Warn him. Good idea. They were talking civilly (sp?), but the good-bye was cold, so I think we're safe. He knows all about her money problems, and he knows her better than I do. I guess if he really wanted to go back there, it's not my place to say anything. I don't see why he would, though. He's tall. He's handsome--upper 60's. He's comfortable money-wise. He'll be a big catch if he wants to get back out there in the dating world. No reason to go back to the x-wife. So if he does, there wouldn't be anything anyone could say to stop that.

Surely he wouldn't be dumb enough to take her back knowing that she is doing it for money.

A man married the same woman 4 times divorced her four times told me he loved her. The woman was my grandmother's niece alcoholic and we don't think older daughter was his since he always treated the younger one better.

Yup, at that point it is inexplicable and you can't really fight it. On another note, I got the bug that made my youngest fall asleep on the floor. It knocked me on my ass as well. 4 days later, and I finally went to see the DR for some antibiotics.
