Tiny homes are a nice idea for sustainability. But like riding your bike to work, it just ain't gonna happen on any sort of scale.

The angle of that picture makes the door look too small for the frame. That's all I can see now. lol I think I might see a bigger problem . . . that is the door to the bathroom? Must be a man-cabin . . . I don't see any uhhh facilities in the cabin!! Maybe there's a strategically missed portapotty behind the cabin somewhere. I also noticed they get to sleep on the futon.

I could do it on my own. But I'm not sleeping in a loft area and I want a real bathroom.

There's also no easy access to the deck - you have to walk around the house to get to it. It doesn't look like the 'kitchen' has running water, but it does appear to have an electric hookup... weird. Not sure why they didn't bother with some sort of water hook up/bathroom. This particular "house" seems like it's more for Glamping than long term living...

An amendment where? Building codes are at the local level. They're adopted at the local level but are often national codes. International Code Council puts out a set every 3 years, lots of the local levels here have adopted theirs. I believe they are the ones who made the amendment to their codes. Interesting. Did not know that.

Building codes are set by the state, if i recall correctly. Many states use a uniform code, i think the international one mentioned. (Sorry, i had a class in this, but its been a dozen years.) Zoning ordinances are set locally, which includes minimum sf, room sizes, setbacks, etc.

I know what the localities around me do and only a few things, like schools, are regulated by the state. Otherwise, it's up to the locality, be it county or city, to decide what to do/adopt. And of course, FEMA gets to put in their 2 cents with flood regulations.

Because of this thread I watched the Tiny House Hunters last night. LOL, DH still thinks our current house is too tiny. I asked if he would live in one of the "bigger" tiny houses (around 400 sq ft) and he just looked at me like I lost my damn mind. Maybe someday I can put one of those in the backyard and use it as my "woman cave" or place to escape the crazies I live with

I believe it was the middle one - not the super tiny one and not the biggest one. THis was the cowgirl-chic lady.

They all run together, I know I saw her, so it must have been recent since I forget them as fast as I watch them.

And maybe a bunk house for kids, all on the same property. I can just wave at everyone when I don't feel like talking to them
