My FIL said that "if I would've had a son, I would've wanted my son to be like him". That was to some of his friends. Later on he said it to me too.
That was a few years after our first meeting when during discussion, the man stands up, walks outside slamming the door behind him while saying "I'm gonna shoot the SOB!"
He denies ever saying it but I know what I heard!

It apears that my exFIL still considers me "his son" even after almost 25 years. The man had four daughters and I was the only SIL that did things with him and he loved that.

It is unfortunate( ) that my wife doesn't have a clue of what my mom is saying. Loves her most from all her DILs-3 others.
When I talk to her on sundays almost every time mom keeps saying:" I know you are busy with work and all but can your wife and kids come and stay with me for awhile? Maybe a couple months? You can stay there dear and take care of the house and work and all!"

My in-laws have always been wonderful to me.  I don't know of anything specific they have said about me, but they treat me like I was born to them with their DNA - maybe even a little better.  I know I rocked their foundation because they are very, very religious, and between my drinking, my cursing (which has only slipped out a few times in my MIL's presence - never in front of my FIL that I can recall) and the whole "living in sin with their son" thing - they had reason to not like me.  But, I think they knew that my DH picked me and if they wanted to start a war, they would lose.  After having a tense relationship with their other DIL, I think they learned a little.  But, we made it legit, and kept the drinks to a minimum, and it all worked out.  I did pretty good in the in-law department.  


I am pretty sure (like 99.5%) that just about everyone in my family likes my husband more than they like me.  Oh well - I never really fit in there anyway.  He probably raised my standing a little, so I will take what I can get.

Not quite the subject, but brought to mind by it.

My parents are quite religious (Lutheran) and quite conservative, but have always made my sister's girlfriend welcome. Dad has now passed away and Mom, at age 93 has been in a nursing home for about five years, very frail and short term memory issues. Anyway, two years ago the state of Washington legalized same sex marriage. Sister wasn't sure how Mom would react to them getting married. I told her I would share the news with Mom. Mom's reaction: A big smile while saying "Daughter's girlfriend has always been like a daughter to me!" (This from a mom who has six daughters and one son and dearly loves every one of them.) My mom is the greatest!

My grandfather had all girls and his girls had all girls. He was thrilled. Here's his take on it:

Don't you want a son or two?
'Hell naw! I don't want anything to do with damn boys. About the time the knotheads are useful, your daughters are old enough to damn well marry them.' 

He was one of 11 sons.
