yay for you! I definitely felt the same way when I paid off my car a year and a half ago too as far as the CC balance, have you found your way over to the Women in Red board yet? I've gotten some great tips and support during my own race. if you haven't been there yet, check it out!

Congrats! Feels awesome doesn't it? WOW I just noticed you mentioned me! hahahaha. That's great! I am in debt and you are deep in debt! LMAO Keep it up! keep looking at that payoff schedule everyday! Keep reminding yourself, that next year, you will be FREE. Don't fold! Just keep on truckin' and roll like a freight train. I keep seeing the day when I don't have all this credit card debt. I see how fast I will be able to save up for "new" car so I can pay cash. It's amazing. Do this when you have time. Copy whatever you have that you use for your budget (I use Excel) and take out all your credit card, loans and all the debt out of there. See how much you will have left a month! Amazing isn't it? Stick to your budget and don't let anyone tell you that you are crazy! I had that happen to me already. People just don't get "it" and "it" is really hard to explain to them. Good luck! Now take care of that baby of yours! It will have to last you for a little bit, but I bet it drove better to work today, didn't it?

Excellent. I bought my current vehicle in May 2005. It was an unexpected purchase because the previous vehicle had engine problems. The purchase was a 2002 model, on which I put something like $6000 down in cash, and put the rest on a low rate CC, if I recall. Got that one paid off in a few years. Have not had an auto payment in nearly 4 years. The vehicle is running quite well, and just passed 100,000 miles. I am hoping it will provide good service for years to come.

I had mine paid off for about a year or so. I love not to have payments. If I had payments now, that would really put a hurting on my credit card pay off plan. My payment was 460 a month!
I just turned over 140k on my car. It's a 2002. Still drives like the day I bought it! I love it! I am hoping to get 100-150k more out of it. It's not unusual for my car. This gives me some hopes lol... I can't imagine just showing up and paying cash for my next car. How awesome!

Congrats! I love paying off cars, or any other debt.
But I am with kate....I am not superstitious, but I am always afraid that something bad will happen as soon as I write that last check (or electronic payment)!

Congrats. It's awesome not to have a car payment. I haven't had one since Dec. 2005. I haven't missed it. I hope to not have another again in life. I'm currently saving for the next one, which I hope to not have to purchase for quite some time.

Congrats on paying off your car! I know the feeling. It's been a little over 2 years since I paid my car off. I'd had a car payment all of my adult life and I'm loving having a reliable car with no monthly payment. Welcome to the club.

Good job! I admit to being jealous as our car payment is the bill that bugs me the most about our debt. But nice work!

I want to beat the statistic that says the average person drives 12 cars in their life (can't remember where I read that). I'd never heard of that average. I just counted them up. I'm 66 and driving my 8th car....

Wow! I'm way behind! I'm 55 and still on #4. I hope to stay on #4 for a long long time. It's the only car I ever bought new (2001) model, with all the bells and whistles that were available at the time. It has 101,000 miles on it currently. The good thing about taking the bus to work! It sure saves on mileage ;D

Awesome, congrats! Question: was the rate on the car > 8.99%? If not, what made you pay off the car first?

Way to go!! Until I bought my currant car I never had a car payment. Now I don't know why people do it, I can't wait to be done and I keep telling people NEVER again!! two more years though for me but the car will still be the youngest car I have ever owned and should still have a good 100k mi in it then. I found out this last week though that about the same month that I make my last payment the extended waranty expires. Keeping my fingers crossed my car doesn't decide to give me bad karma then just cause it can

Same here DVM! We are 51 and 54 and this was our second new car, and first new car payment ever. Part of the reason we bought new this time is to hopefully pass on a reliable car in good condition to our DS3 (youngest child) when he starts driving in six years.
And then even if DH wants a "brand new car" again, it will probably be NYET! I MIGHT do it one more time, the last time, just to indulge him. We do keep our cars (and we only run one) at least 10 years.
But it is really nice to have a totally reliable car now, I have to admit that. On some level I can also see DH's point about buying new every 10 years and then either driving it into the ground or passing it on to one of our kids.
