Peachy, two Pit Bulls mauled a young deer in our back yard here in the suburbs, and then a dog mauled my little country kitty out at our property (she was just gorgeous, but did not like it indoors). I'm still not over that and haven't been at our property since it happened. But I do still love dogs and I don't blame them. I blame the freaks that teach them such behaviour. And I just KNOW you would not teach your dogs that, right? I really love the kitty. <3 no...my boys would actually play with the neighborhood cats, if the cats weren't so afraid of them. I really don't like to see dogs or cats roaming unsupervised. Our dogs are in the fence or on a leash at all times. I do clean up after them if they go on somebody else's property when we are walking. She was on her property. Yes, the dogs got on our neighbors property who fed her. We co parented her and she had about 6 acres to play. I think it may have been the neighbors dog who did it, but I don't know for sure.

we have some folks in this neighborhood who let their aggressive dogs run loose. the morons across the street had a small dog they kept on the front porch. Damn thing barked 24/7. Now it's not barking and I saw them move the gate off the porch over the weekend. I'm guessing the poor dog died of exposure because the idiots wouldn't at least put the dog in the garage when the temps got so cold here. the cat problem is due to people moving & leaving cats behind that they never had fixed. At one time we had probably 20 or 30 in our small subdivision. Around here, animal control will not come & get cats. They loan you traps for a week and YOU have to catch them & take them in.

I actually hate irresponsible pet owners. The pets can't be blamed and are just trying to survive. That poor little dog. That is so sad. All of our adopted pets were homeless and came to us for help. Including the ones at our property. We also adopted a gorgeous Pit Bull who is the sweetest dog! Their male dog tried to teach her to go after the cats too, but we told her no - bad dog and she wanted no part of his nasty behaviour. She'd come to me and hide behind my legs when he would do bad things. Pit bulls are such misunderstood dogs. They do what they are taught, because they want to please and are so smart.
Okay, I'll shut up now. I'm sure you know all of this anyway. You are a smart lady.

I have a coworker who rescues pitties. Our dogs are both unofficial rescues...the golden was bought as a Christmas gift by somebody who didn't realize how big he'd get. The lab mix was a stray, abandoned at a school. if I had unlimited $, I'd take in every stray dog in need of a home and give them acres of safe property to run on.

Aren't they the best animals? Strays? They give so much and ask so little, so it makes me want to give them everything possible!

the lab mix is the sweetest little guy. He just seems so grateful to have a home. He is the greeter when we go to the dog park...when he sees anybody walking down the sidewalk towards the entrance, he runs to the gate with a wagging tail. we've never had a golden before, but he's wonderful. OK, so he's convinced he's a lap dog. I can handle a 90 lb lap dog, right?

My last 3 dogs were all from shelters or people who didn't want them. My Sheltie came from a boy who had gotten him in the apartment complex I lived him. He had her for a few weeks and his Mom left one morning and told him to get rid of the dog before she got home. We got her.
I got my next dog when I was in Saudi Arabia. Another couple had her and she just hid behind the couch with them. We got her and she was a great little dog, turned into a total lap dog. The people couldn't believe it when we told them.
My current dog came from the local shelter. The information the shelter had was that his owner had a heart attack and couldn't look after him and dropped him off. He had gone out of a previous adoption which didn't work out when I got him, he's a wonderful dog. I can't believe someone dumping him.
The stories I've read of people moving out of houses they've been evicted from behind and leaving their pets behind in the houses is just unbelievable to me that people could be that callous or stupid or both.

My sister had two Blue Heelers and they were convinced they were lap dogs. Quite successful lap dogs also :-)

That's what we would do too. We are doing it now on a very small scale and that is why we purchased property on a lake for them to play and run and the neighbors love dogs. Unfortunately they are not "cat people", but they feed them for us and they also have two cats. They took our dog in so we felt that was more than fair and we pay for the medical, etc. Then Blondie showed up and the deal was the same because they wanted the Pittie and agreed to feed Blondie too and we paid for everything, spay, shots, food, etc. We also let them keep their horse on our property to graze and get excercise. It should have been a perfect situation...

TD, when I hear those stories... my heart just bleeds! That white German Sheperd that was left to starve to death in her cage... makes me cry every time I hear or think about that story. That poor baby! I wish they fried that witch who did that.

SHELTIES? Oh, I love shelties. So smart! Beautiful, sweet, little dogs. We had them when I was growing up. rescue is definitely the way to go. No reason for us to ever go to a breeder...we just want a pet, and there's a rescue agency for every breed. DH says 2 at a time is our limit, unless we luck into either of these:

They would likely not even understand why you were upset "it's just an animal" would be their reply. Personally, I think people like that should be sentenced to involuntary organ donation.

I guess I should be getting in the shower now that it's 2:00 a.m.!! My male stray that's we've adopted was never cat litter box trained (he thinks that is uncivilized) and he has to go outside. He's fixed now, but still likes to roam and he runs in and out until wee hours of the morning... makes for a very sleep deprived mom. And it's going to get below freezing tonight. That boy is testing my every nerve! LOL!!!

I can easily understand people who refuse to evacuate during a hurricane because the shelters will not allow them to bring their pets. I couldn't leave my boys to the elements. I'd have to find another solution.

I have a beautiful pit--don't know if she's full or mixed, but she's the biggest sweetie when she isn't being a brat. She came from the shelter and they warned us she was completely stubborn. She fits right in Later, if you go to imageshack.us, you can upload a picture straight off your computer and it (select "image" and then click on "browse"...select the picture...click on "upload"--I think it's upload--...and then the next page will give you a web address you can use just for the image. It actually is fairly easy...
