I started watching the 1st season on demand and am on episode 7.
I like it for the most part. Of course I love Cookie (Taraji P Henson) and really miss her on Person of Interest.
I have never been a fan of rap and some hip hop is okay, so the music is not a big draw for me, the beats on every song sound exactly the same.
But I do like the music the middle son Jamal is doing and he isn't bad to look at either. 
I cannot stand Lucious (Is it bad to say I am glad he is dying?  ) and the youngest son needs his ass kicked!
Is anyone else watching this?
I am only half way through the season so no spoilers but I think I will finish this weekend.

I enjoyed it. Taraji Henson and Terrance Howard are great actors IMO and the guy that plays Jamal has a wonderful voice.
Yes, the youngest son is a spoiled little brat for the most part. Lucious has made him that way, I guess. He always treated Jamal terribly because of his homosexuality and he treats the oldest son (can't remember his name) less than because he has no musical talent. That leaves him with the youngest son as the only one he seems to give a crap about. My guess is he put him up on a pedestal his entire life and turned him into what he is as a young man. I am hoping his character grows and matures a bit over the next few seasons.
Lucious Lyons is one of those characters you can't help but dislike but he makes the entire show.

I don't think he makes the entire show, I think it could go on just fine with Cookie. But he is one of those characters you love to hate.

Oh man, I don't watch a lot of tv, but I binge watched Empire on On Demand after the season ended. I didn't expect to like it, but I LOVED it lol. But if I'd watched it during the season, waiting a week for the next episode would've driven me nuts.
I do listen to rap and hip-hop, and the music on the show is still awful. I like Jamal's singing though. I've heard the song about Lucious accepting him being played on internet radio. It has a nice sound.
I really liked Cookie. My daughter said she knew I'd like her lol. Lucious is the devil.
I don't want to say too much since you haven't finished watching the season yet. I hope the next season is just as entertaining as the first.

I just though of something else I don't like. Naomi Campbell? Really? They couldn't find an actual actress? And to pair her with a kid half her age, just wrong.

I just watched the season premiere episode last night and I agree... it wasn't that great. Also, I don't like Jamal as the bad guy. On a different note, I also watched Blood and Oil last night. I just watched the season premiere episode last night and I agree... it wasn't that great. Also, I don't like Jamal as the bad guy. On a different note, I also watched Blood and Oil last night. I thought it was pretty good. Yes, some of it was definitely silly (the young couple is especially silly) but I am going to watch it a few more times. I typically have at least one unbelievable show on my list of guilty pleasures  I have not watched the 2nd episode of Empire yet. That may happen tonight. I am tired today so I am envisioning an evening of lying on the sofa with the cat and the remote. |

With the uncle's body found the prosecution knows for a fact he is dead and will not be able to testify. The prospect of a trial was hurting Empire so Luscious was anxious for it to just go away as fast as possible. As an after though (I assume) they used it as an intimidation factor by putting it in the lady prosecutor's car, letting her know Luscious is not afraid to "take her out." |

I thought Cookie just didn't seem like herself. I was a bit disappointed in the whole episode.

I thought the premiere KICKED ASS!!!
I agree there weren't any key Cookie moments.....but you know they will come!
I thought the first 3 minutes were so fast paced and packed with action / story....

I purchased season 2 soundtrack! I wasn't able to find the ONE song I soooo loved! had I waited longer I would have had the option to purchase the one song!
Plus this show - the season final and the season premiere almost brought me to tears  I call my dad almost every episode! joking and laughing! cause they say the most hurtful shit to each other! when Hakeem said - but that's MY baby! Then Lucious said I don't see your name on the birth certificate! GAWD DAM!! I nearly passed out! and in the season final or close to the final second season Lucious said the most hurtful, mentally painful things to Jamal! then Jamal fired back at Lucious! I...I just couldn't take it. I felt so bad! LOL

My favorite lines from the premiere were Hakeem to Cookie "I don't see no brooms around here" (referencing when Cookie whooped him with a broom early season) And Lucious making threats while Anika was literally delivering a baby..... It's just so WOW |

Got caught up yesterday while I was off work.
Lucious seriously is pure evil. At times I feel sorry for him because his mother is bat shit crazy but then he does something so evil that I can't feel anything for him.
And poor Andrea...
