I have a question if anyone has any idea how this works. I have some books on my kindle that I bought from Amazon. What happens to the books in my account if I ever stop my Amazon subscription? I would still have them on my kindle where I downloaded them but if that kindle dies, I wouldn’t have any way to retrieve them, would I? That account would not exist any more, right?

You wouldn't need a subscription, just the same Amazon account. So, even if you cancel Prime but still have an Amazon log-in to purchase items (or even not buy anything), then you still have your books. They are tied to your Amazon account and email associated with that, not with a paid subscription (Kindle unlimited would be different).

Thank you for pointing out that even if I stop Prime subscription, my Amazon account should still be available with all the digital media I bought so far (e-books and movies). It was a late night musing thinking about all the stuff that’s sitting there in my account and what would happen to it some day. Physical books are tangible but digital ones are so much more portable and easily accessible, hard to decide sometimes what I prefer.

Carrie Soto is Back - Taylor Jenkins Reid. I'd say 4 out of 5 stars. I enjoyed the story but thought the ending was rushed.
The Maid - Nita Prose. Listened to the audiobook and enjoyed it. Maybe 3.75 out of 5.
Now listening to Remarkably Bright Creatures.
Now reading TBD. Thinking Song of Achilles. I was going to continue on the Taylor Jenkiks Reid train with Daisy Jones and the Six, but it hasn't been a kindle deal yet and I don't want to pay $10 or $13.

I could not get into Song of Achilles. I loved Circe though by the same author.

You could run the Kindle app on your phone. I don't think you have to have an Amazon Prime account to access your Kindle account.

Finished Bridge of Clay. It's beautifully written. It's a bit longer than it needs to be, but it's definitely worth the read.

Recent reads since my last post:
The Sun and the Star by Rick Riordan - I liked it, though DS(11) didn’t really get into it and didn’t end up finishing it
Happy Place by Emily Henry - I didn’t like this one as well as People We Meet on Vacation or Beach Read, but still enjoyed it
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna - cute read
How to Keep House While Drowning by KC Davis - okay read
The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan - this was a reread and I still loved it
When Nobody Was Watching: My Hard-Fought Journey to the Top of the Soccer World by Carli Lloyd - I didn’t know much about Carli Lloyd outside of Olympic medal-winning soccer star, and I found her story interesting
This Time Tomorrow by Emma Strautin - didn’t really love this one
The Librarian of Crooked Lane and The Medici Manuscript (Glass Library #1 & 2) by CJ Archer - these were okay, and I’ll likely read the 3rd when it comes out in September
All the Beauty in the World: The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Me by Patrick Bringley - this was a different, but enjoyable read
Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood - I love everything she writes, and this was no exception. I reread it a few times before it had to go back to the library
On Juneteenth by Annette Gordon-Reed - informative and quick read
Out of the Corner by Jennifer Grey - I listened to the audiobook (she narrates it) and enjoyed it, though I could have had less time spent on her nose job
Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren - loved this one
There were a few other unremarkable rom coms in there as well, that were fine, but not overly memorable.

Trust by Hernan Diaz. It won the Pulitzer Prize.
Unusual but I can’t put it down. First part is a short novel about a fictional Wall Street financial genius and his wife. Second part is is a short outline for an autobiography by a real Wall Street financial genius. Third part is from the point of view of a young woman hired to help the real Wall Street genius write his autobiography, because the man who wrote the fictional story was very obviously writing about him, although he changed some of the details. The Wall Street tycoon is curious about his the writer portrayed his wife and wants an autobiography to set the record strait. There is small fourth part, written by the tycoon’s wife before she died (haven’t gotten to that yet, I’m at the beginning of the third part).
If anyone else has read this book I would love to hear what you think. It’s described as a puzzle book, where you have to figure out, from these four different sources, what the true story is. I’m sure, after I’ve read it, I’ll be checking on Good Reads to see what other people thought.
Finished listening to Kate Atkinson’s One Good Turn, one of her detective stories with Jackson Brodie. It was good - she always has interesting characters and some humor - but this one had a particularly good twist at the end.

AB The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese. Print is 736 pages.
31 hours for AB. The issue I have is the AB stops saying my internet. I didn't keep track of the characters which would help keeping track of the story. Update. I'm still listening. Nearly finished and have lost track of timeline. The AB decides the internet doesn't work anymore then backs up about 1/2 hour. Annoying. I started tracking where I was at in hours/minutes so I could get back to where it quit. It is an interesting book.

Starting a new one - Slow Horses by Mick Herron. It’s also a TV series on Apple TV, which I don’t get.
I was reading an article about this guy - and this series of his books are described as a cross between John Le Carre and P.G. Wodehouse. I’ve tried to read a couple spy thrillers before but never seemed to keep up with them, too many plot layers, too much complicated spy craft. But Slow Horses is about an M15 outpost populated by agents who screwed up so badly they get shipped off to this dead outpost. Very dark humor. So I thought I would give it a try. So far, only finished a chapter.

I just started Above by Isla Morlay It's very disturbing for me. It's about a H.S. male librarian that kidnaps one of the students and puts her in a silo.

I reread The Last Vampire by Christopher Pike.
Some of it is cringe and I forgot how outlandish the ending is but for the most part it held up pretty good. Sita deserves a place in the Vampire lexicon.
I might track down the other four in the series. I never did finish it.

Anyone have book recommendations for a 14yo? Fiction or non fiction, likes midevil themes - Knights Templar, Swiss guard, battle of Vienna. Doesn't pick up books for the love of reading, but reads when he loves the subject matter.

It’s been awhile since I read it, but The Templar Legacy by Steve Berry might be one he enjoys. It’s an adult fiction book, but I remember it as interesting and had lots of info about the Knights Templar.
