I'm listening to The Last of the Stanfields. I like it so far. Eleanor Oliphant is on my wish list.

Reading The Princess Beard by Delilah Dawson and Kevin Hearne. I am really enjoying it. It's a modern take on fairy tales. They have two more books set in the same world that I am considering buying too. I'll have to check it out. I'm reading one with a fairy tale twist right now. Its by K. Eason and a long title which starts with "How Rory Thorne destroyed the multiverse". Its set in space but is oriented to a medieval political structure.

Yep - that one! I thought it was decent! I have thought about reading Force of Nature, but I'm waiting to get it on a Kindle deal. I think I paid $1.99 for The Dry! I just finished this book. It was well written, atmospheric, and creepy. The solution was quite spectacularly banal... I was really disappointed in the ending. I'm now reading "Motherless Brooklyn". I'm not loving but am going to stick with it for now.

It came out last week. I think I'd like to see it but probably wait for it to come out on DVD.
The premise is interesting but I just find the writing slightly jarring.

Finished The Princess Beard. I really enjoyed it, it's a book I plan on reading over and over to catch the cultural references I may have missed. I got Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter and The Princess Bride. I'm sure there are more. I want the other two books in the series. Apparently I started off with book #3.
Now I am reading The Body: A Guide for Occupants by Bill Bryson. I'm only on the first chapter so far but as a science geek I find it fascinating plus I like Bill Bryson in general.

DD7 and I read The Giggler Treatment by Roddy Doyle. I've never read a book like it - so completely nonsensical and hilarious. It's literally a book about poo. Probably a second grade chapter book - might be just the thing to get a reluctant boy reading!

Oh, and here's a parenting hack that I'm quite proud of coming up with....DD11 hasn't had as much free time to put books in her library queue, and I'm usually picking them up on my way home from work without her. Rather than let her run out of reading material, I've been walking through the aisles pulling award winning books (our library system labels the spines with big award stickers from Newberry, etc). She does her typical tween angst thing of not being thrilled with my choices, but then she reads them anyway because she's desperate. Lo and behold, they are good, excellent even. One made her cry but in a good way. I've said I'd love to read her favorites and have read two that were fantastic. Plus they have to be way better literature than what she'd pick on her own, so she's continuing to build her skills. I'm a genius!
I've been doing this with picture books for a long time. Our libraries put those award winners on their own shelf. DD7 and I read lots of good stuff that way.

Finished The Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. I had a hard time getting into it at first and was skeptical but it ended up being a really good book. It's all about the secret societies of Yale and ghosts and murder.

Just finished Gods of Jade and Shadow. It was REALLY good, it's like an adult version of Rick Riordan's books. It deals with Mayan mythology.
Then I am currently reading this The Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girl, which I have decided I need to buy and then beat my daughters over the head with it.

Thanks to a couple of work trips over the last few flights, I read more books than I have in a while.
700 Sundays by Billy Crystal - heartwarming ready about the Billy Crystal and his father and family during his childhood (700 Sundays refers to the number of Sundays that Billy had on earth with his father before his father passed away when he was a teen)
Extreme Measures (Mitch Rapp #11) by Vince Flynn and The Rembrandt Affair (Gabriel Allon #10) by Daniel Silva - both are series I like to read and while somewhat predictable, I still like them.
The Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen - better than I expected
Holly Banks Full of Angst - this was a Kindle First Read or whatever it was called and it was terrible. I barely finished it.

Finished Fishnet by Kristen Innes. It was all right, it took me a really long time to get into it and I had a hard time with the dialogue sometimes because it was written with a Scottish brogue. It was a good read but I am glad I got it from the library instead of purchasing it because it's not one I would read again.
Also finished The Day it Finally Happens: Alien contact, dinosaur parks, Immortal humans and other possibilities. It examined the probability of those types of things happening and what it would mean for society. It was pretty entertaining and provoked some thinking which I like in a book.

Just finished Educated, by Tara Westover. Great book. Just started Crazy Rich Asians. I didn't see the movie. So far I like it.

Finished
This is how it always is by Laurie Frankel
Loved the writing and the story. It's about a family who has a child who decides they are transgender.
Finished
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Anna Shaffer
It's written in letter form. Letters to and from characters. It's set in the immediate aftermath of WWII in England. It's a cute story with a nice bit of history.
Next up: A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving

Finished Tristan Strong Punches a hole in the sky. I had it checked out for less than 12 hours.
I love the Rick Riordan presents platform. I love the inclusiveness and I enjoy learning about worldviews other than my own.
Tristan is all about African and African American folklore/mythology.

Just finished Disney’s Land: Walt Disney and the Invention of the Amusement Park that Changed the World by Richard Snow. A bit slow at the beginning, but had some interesting and cool history on how Disneyland came to be. www.goodreads.com/book/show/45320545

A Prayer for Owen Meany is taking forever. Good thing it's fantastic writing, or I'd have given up. I think it's a test of my patience actually, which is probably good for me.

Finished How Rory Thorne Destroyed the Multiverse. It's a feminist take on fairy tales and Sci Fi. I found it a bit wordy at times but overall I enjoyed it.
I've been making it a goal to get out of my reading rut and so far I've had more hits than misses. I've been keeping a little notebook filled with titles of books I am interested so I don't lose track.
Next up is Tuesday Moony Talks to Ghosts.

I did give up on that book. The writing was lovely but it was so drawn out that in the end I didn't really care what happened.
