I read the entire series. Apparently I like to punish myself.
I kept hoping everything was going to tie up and there would be an awesome ending. NOPE. The last book was the worst of them all. I flipped to the end and got so mad I returned the book to the library the next day.

I read The Cuckoo's Calling, JK Rowling writing as Robert Galbraith, not too long ago & liked it. I like her writing style and quality, so usually enjoy her books.
Most recently read Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. Well written and kind of interesting.
Both very light reading.
I started reading a Tolkien bestiary book, but meh, not holding my interest, so just not into fantastical creatures at the moment.
I'm going to try Dream From My Father by Barack Obama next. It must have been from DD's University classes because there are about 200 of those little sticky tabs all over the pages!

I hope it's better than the Wicked series, I'll never get that time back. I'm glad I'm not the only one that didn't enjoy Wicked. I never even managed to finish the first one. It is really rare for a fiction book to not hold my attention even if I don't like it. Wicked & 50 Shades are the only 2 books I can recall not being able to finish. I just cared so little I couldn't even force myself to continue reading them. I didn't read Wicked, but hated the musical. I did read Mirror, Mirror by the same author and thought it was terrible. I have no desire to read another Gregory Maguire book.

The Boys in the Boat is going with me on my plane ride next weekend. This was a really good read! Agreed! I finished it in two sittings and I loved it . Has anyone read any of this author's other books? Thoughts?

Also hated Wicked. Not one person in my book group liked it. And we were an eclectic lot.

Ok, I have several stacks of books I want to get through this summer. Ive been gardening this week, so listened to The Martian, which I loved, and am into Mr. Penumbra's 24 hour Book Store right now. Also enjoying. Print read I'm half way through Sycamore Row by John Grisham. I've read and thoroughly enjoyed all of John Grisham's novels - "A Time To Kill" is one of my favorites of all his books.
But the best Grisham book I've read is "The Innocent Man" - which unlike his other novels, is a non-fiction true account of justice gone wrong - written in in Grisham's gripping style - making it a must-read.
www.jgrisham.com/books/the-innocent-man/Several of his novels have been made into successful movies without destroying the plot or characters - "The Pelican Brief", "The Chamber", "Runaway Jury", etc

I disagree about that last comment as far as The Pelican Brief goes, SL. at the time that movie came out, my HS English class was given an assignment to do a comparison between a book/movie of the same name where the book had been written first. having read and loved this one, I chose it. my family all sat down 5 watch the movie, and my mom and I (who had read the book) spent the majority of it explaining the missing details to my dad and sister (who had not read the book). I actually had to go back and watch it again to write my paper. sent from my electronic distraction

I just saw that The Martian is being done as a movie and coming out in November with Matt Damon as Mark Watney. I think that is a pretty good choice, and I really enjoyed the book and found it funny and the trailer had some good lines too - "I'm going to have to science the hell out of this."

Oh, that will be fun! I really did like The Martaian.
Finished listening to Moving Day it was... Ok... The story was not bad, but he is way too wordy/lets make a deep meaning moment out of everything.
Daughter and I started listening to Legend by Marie Lu. It's another one of those dystopian future YA series. So far so good. But we are only about an hour into book one.
I really like Runaway Jury movie, but I didn't find it all that similar to the book.

I bought Dark Places for my Kindle a while back but never got to it. Let me know what you think when you finish it.
Anybody else have Amazon Prime and a Kindle? They give you a free book from 3 choices as part of the monthly Kindle First program. I chose A Dark Lure this month. I like suspense, and this one seems really well-written so far. It won't be available to the general public until next month, though.

I liked Dark Plces and Sharp Objects. They weren't Gome Girl, but I found both compelling enough. She is a queen of flawed characters.

Has anyone else ordered the "new" Harper Lee (To Kill a Mockingbird) novel? I did an Amazon pre-order, and it was really reasonable for the hardback. I can't wait! You have to understand how many years I taught TKAM.

The Gods of Guilt was really good, by Michael Connelly. (If you liked The Lincoln Lawyer). I'm reading The Pact by Jodi Piccoult now, and so far I like it.

I have a few chapters left of my Nicholas Sparks book, going to make a serious effort to finish it tomorrow at lunch. I know that what is left needs to be a single sitting, and will need kleenex. sent from my electronic distraction

I finished listening to The Good Girl. I liked it. It engaged my interest and I wanted of keep listening. Much better than Girl on a Train, which I read. That said knew the 'big twist' long before it got there. Im listening to The Stories Lofe of AJ Fickery right now. Seems a modern ay Silas Marner sorts. It's ok. I'll keep going. Ive only been listening lately, no time for print to face

I just finished listening to All The light We Cannot See. It was okay. I hate books that jump back and forth in time. It is hard to figure out listening to it.
I am now onto The Graveyard Book and I am really enjoying listening to it. It is a full cast production. Neil Gaiman should narrate all books!
In keeping with trying to read all my book sale books, I am reading The Pelican Brief.

Someone gave me a ton of Pattersons women's murder club books. They are perfect for the type of reading I feel like doing right now. Light. With a new chapter every two pages. I find is easy to put it down and pick it up even if I only have a few minutes. I think I've read some of them already but I'm starting in order and will skip the ones I have already read.

I went looking for this thread because every book I've tried to check out lately has not been available. Now, I've reached my hold limit at the library. I've looked up several of your suggestions, and those are all wait-listed also! Sheesh!
Anyway, I'm re-reading Harry Potter. Actually, I never read past Year Two, so now I'm reading HP.
My search wasn't totally in vain; I did find out that t-dog bought her new house!
So, more suggestions?

AJ Fickery was good, but made me cry at the end, and I hate to cry. I also listened toThe Unexpected Mrs Polifax which was just plain fun. I've read some pop fiction stuff... can't think of anything 'can't miss'... I'm reading Faithful Place by Tara French now. I liked the last one I read of hers.

Everyone is reading such grownup books! Me, I've been on a zombie/post apocalyptic/disaster fiction kick. I get most of my books for the Kindle because I read fast and go through them quickly, so it's cheapest.
