I finished Follow You Home earlier this week. (I took the weekend off from reading so I could binge on season 4 of Orange Is The New Black. My daughter and I love that show!) There was some dark stuff happening in that book. The price was right (free) but I am not sure I liked it well enough to check out more of the author's works.
Kneading to Die was begun on my lunch break. It was recommended here--or at least the series was-- and it looks to be a nice summer read.
Last Light, a short story by Dean Koontz, in conjunction with his last book Ashley Bell, was gobbled down in a couple of gulps. Another one, Final Hour, is up very soon for me from my library. I used to love Dean Koontz and then he just went flat. His Odd Thomas series was good, though, and I enjoyed it.
My nephew who works in a big-box book store gave me a copy of End of Watch by Stephen King. I was going to buy it anyway since I have the other 2 in the series, but free is better. I had enough credits saved up at Audible that I bought all 3 of the books for my future listening pleasure. I often relisten to audible books when I'm quilting and my mind might wander off the story just a bit.
The last couple of years have been occupied with a never ending divorce and I had pretty much quit reading and quilting (kind of like saying I quit eating and breathing) but the last couple of months I'm finding the old me is still in there and I've been gorging on books again. Nice to be back!

I have a friend that wants easy, funny reading. She just lost her mother not long ago (and her sister not too many months before that) so she's looking for distraction and happy stuff. Suggestions? ETA: I've already suggested Janet Evanovich, Jana DeLeon & Carolyn Haines.

What stuff does she usually like? For or light and funny I like things like Stephanie Plum series and Mrs Polifax series. But they are still crime mystery, just lighter and funny. I also like Christopher Moore and David Sedaris, but while funny they can be dark sometimes too. I find Patrick McManus funny, but if you've never hunted, fished, camped, etc you might not ... Not ot sure that was helpful

I finished Follow You Home, then read War Brides (Helen Bryan) and The Butterfly Garden (Dot Hutchison). I really need to get more audio books, my eyes hate me some days when I just don't want to stop reading. I do recommend all 3, they kept me interested. I have not yet started anything since finishing the last one this weekend. Finally started reading Follow You Home on Sunday (it has been a busy summer). I am about 30% done and hope to finish it this weekend. At this point, I just REALLY want to know what the hell happened to them.

I am reading All is not Forgotten by Wendy Walker. It is about a teenage girl who was raped & given this new wonder drug so she wouldn't remember it but while she can't remember what happened she has sort of PTSD symptoms. The story is told from the perspective of the psychiatrist treating her & others. It took me a few chapters to get into it because of the telling by the psychiatrist format but I read about half of it Sunday afternoon so it is a page turner.

I'm still working my way through the Agatha Christie works for the most part, and some other random things along the way. I keep forgetting to come back and update things here. I go through books like a bag of chips. I'll have to look and see if I've missed sharing any good ones.

My reading material is generally the mindless fluff stuff with a crapload of magazines thrown in. Nothing heavy, just something to read. I've been working my way through the library in town and am probably going to have to hit up a couple others in the area. I am not a big fan of non-fiction. I want to escape to the improbable. And pretend my crappy job doesn't exist. Regarding the magazines, I read them and then I save them up to give to a niece who works at a nursing home. They love getting them. Win-win!

I am happy to be reading again. The summer was mostly consumed with preparing for an advanced certification test in my industry and moving. Both of those things are past me now and my plan for this weekend is to sit my butt on the new sofa and read. I am thinking I might also bake a cake. I haven't had a relaxing weekend in months. I am very much looking forward to it.

I don't do magazines, but otherwise we have similar tastes. My sister once asked me why don't I read non fiction and learn stuff. I told her learning is not entertaining, if I wanted to read to learn, I'd go to college.

So, I also like to read so I can be a grammar Nazi and pick apart the editing. Don't ask me why I'm not doing it for a living. Although I am actually considering taking it up again so I can get out of baking. I hate baking.

I only know what I've picked up from all the years of reading. I always say, if it looks wrong, it is wrong even if I can't tell you why. That's also how I spell, I'll write it out if I'm not sure and see if it looks wrong. (My coworkers use me for spell check, they call me and just say a word and I start spelling)

My only saving grace is I don't do what my mother did and read with a pen in hand to correct things and then think about sending it back. Although I have thought about it quite a few times lately with the Boston Globe. Seriously people, spellcheck is NOT supposed to be your only method of editing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't because I want the book to hold my attention (I also abhor footnotes and such accordingly) and don't want to crawl back out of the story to do that kind of stuff. Kindle books are bad about it unless it's a well paid author. Vile/vial kind of stuff makes me nuts but not enough to have it knock me out of what I'm reading. Run on sentences that make up the first paragraph of a book however.....

I read After You by JoJo Moyes. Did you read Me Before You first? I didn't and I probably should have. Wasn't a terrible book but I think it would have served me better to have read the first one.

Yes I read Me Before You. Saw the movie. It would have made a difference to you. Clark being so rattled and a basket case would have made more sense. Some friends have not liked After You saying it's not as well written as the first. I tried to read Ship of Brides and did not finish it. I stopped with all the description of the ship.

How was the movie? For some reason, I am just not a fan of movies from books. I ADORE "To Kill A Mockingbird." Favoritest book ever but I just did not like the movie. It wasn't horrid but I prefer the books because you can get the characters thoughts.

The Year of Yes by Shonda Rhymes. She is a writer for Gray's Anatomy among other TV shows.
She reads the audio book herself on youtube.

I just finished one of Agatha Christie's book that I was a bit unhappy with. Don't call it a Miss Marple book if she only shows up at the very end and only says about 8 sentences! It was called The Moving Finger. The story itself was fine, I just spent 3/4 of the book wondering where Miss Marple was.

I just finished listening to the first 2 Miss Fortune books by Jana DeLeon-- Narration was great and I was laughing and having a great time at my desk.
I now am reading The Iron Duke by Meljean Brooks and re-listening to Linesman by SK Dunstall and The Spy by Clive Cussler.
CL --- SK Dunstall's series with Linesman and Allegiance are amazing! Science fiction at it's best. The third book comes out in November I believe. Both written or audio are really good. Not really funny but very touching, human in a way.
Also, I have been reading Jill Shalvis lately and she has had some fun and enjoyable books. I just finished her Instant trilogy and am hunting for more from the library.

Found a new series for my NOOK in the under $5 category. It's called the Artifact Hunters series. Steampunk historical fiction meets romance novel. Perfect for easy summer reading. I got the first one for free, the second one cost me $3. I plan on buying the remaining two books in the series. A LOT of sex so if you aren't into Harlequin romance novels don't bother reading it. Personally I find this author's writing way more hot and way more knowlegable about sex than I do E.L. James. She wishes she could write this hot. Sorry had to say it it was the first thought that popped into my head when I reached the initial sex scene. Now I am reading The Select Letters of Laura Ingalls Wilder. It's personal letters between her and her daughter Rose, other family members, Almanzo and her publishers. I am enjoying it quite a bit.

Snap,I love the Miss Fortune books! Have you the Ghost in Law books? I'll add that to the long list of books to look out for. I've been not in the mood for anything so I keep reading Christie until something catches my eye. I haven't read any Clive Cussler in ages but I have read tons of his books.

Anyone else use Good Reads? I use it to keep up with what I've read. They have giveaways going constantly, I might have entered a couple dozen today. I did win one a couple of years ago, maybe I'll get lucky again.
