Looks like they've updated the display on that site. Even more numbers to contemplate. None of them are good. You have the worst President possible at the helm at this point in time. He will never do the things that need to be done now, yesterday actually. There is no time to wait for 2012. Probably will end up being every man for himself. The 1980's was the "yesterday" and we had a president then not willing to do what was necessary.

He's always the victim isn't he (that world's most powerful man)?

The entitlements promised to the boomers will be drastically reduced to take care of this issue. [/size]

its been coming down the pike for about 20 years
If you really want to go back to the very beginning you would have to start in 1965. That was the most significant year in your fiscal decline. Guess what it was.

That was 1973 and not really the cause of gross fiscal imbalance. Try again though.

If I had to pick a year I would say 1913 was a bad year.

1965 was the year Johnson laid the groundwork for his "Great Society" and sent the Marines into a land war in asia, followed by a massive build up that had good potential, but he also insisted on macro managing both, with the combination of it all making him a sorry excuse of one term president.
But Mr. burns may have had something else in mind.

As a matter of fact I do Mr. henryclay. 1965 was the year the United States opened up immigration to third world countries allowing the influx of poverty that has crippled the nations competitiveness and depleted its resources. You can thank an obnoxious, drunken and later to be killer for this nation destroying legislation. A fine bunch of politicians you have (had) down there. I do not envy your position.

Yes Mr. Private Inventor, that would be a close second.

The majority seem to agree on the necessary action required. We need to make significant reductions in our deficit and debt not the penny anny stuff being argued about right now. This problem has been formed by many administrations and over decades of financial insanity. The only thing that really matters is what can be done to turn it around. IMO it will take completely upsetting the political environment with additional parties or by organizing a large enough block of voters who can have the influence required to demand major financial restructuring along with common sense regulations that stops the money flow to politicians that currently obstructs their objectivity. Let history decide which year things went south or how many people were responsible for driving down the same road. It really makes no difference now, we are still on the same road and going faster then ever. Time to apply the brakes if only our feet can reach them.
