Oh, I almost forgot....If your name is not "Mary" then Don't Worry, Be Happy" Are 'Mary', 'marry', and 'merry' pronounced the same way or are they pronounced differently? You just have to love the English language.......so many possibilities....and when combined with a devious left-handed mind............

I make pancakes sometimes just to have a reason to eat maple syrup. My husband who grew up with Aunt Jemima (blech) is perfectly content to put that swill on his pancakes. It is cheaper to get it right from the producer than through a third party. Kind of the same reason you go to the dock to buy lobster directly from the fishermen when they come in.
Lots of people tap their own trees. It takes a lot of sap to make syrup though, so a lot of work. Maple syrup is also kind of like wine - some years are better than others, depending on the temperatures etc. Sometimes it is more maple flavoured than others.
Always wanted to try birch syrup.
Off to make some pain perdu....
