He wasn't wearing a seat belt? Thats odd to begin with. Very easy to have an "accident" and walk away. If you aim for a bridge and make sure you hit the passenger side, what's the chances you're going to be hurt and the passenger dead? Pretty good one. Even if you're hurt, it's a little bit compared to dead. You knew it was coming. Blame the roads or you lost control. I'm not buying her story. Bet the insurance company isn't either. He was diagnosed with a terminal illness and let his life insurance lapse, he then tried to renew his insurance but since he let it lapse he now had a preexisting condition, so got nothing. I am not clear if it is the same insurance company for both. This does seem like there is at least the possibility this was an intentional event.

I wouldn't roll my car intentionally, that's not controlled. She had some bad injuries herself. Punctured lung can go bad quick.
