I'm trying to slog my way through "The Fiery Cross" which is book 5 in the Outlander series. So dull.
I've taken breaks to read "Generation Kill" and "The Psychopath Test". Now I'm trying to decide between two I've been wait-listed on at the library that just became available, Dave Sedaris' "Let's Explore Diabetes with Owls" and Phil Klay's "Redeployment." I've only read a few pages of the Sedaris book, and it's due back in 3 days so I might just start the other one and put Owls back in the queue.

I'm reading several books right now.
"Hunting Ground" by Patricia Briggs "Festival in Death" by J. D. Robb -- audio version for the daily commute "Seventh Grave and No Body" by Darynda Jones "First Frost" by Sarah Addison Allen -- just finished that one on Tues. "A Hidden Fire" by Elizabeth Hunter -- Finished last night. Really enjoyable read.

Listening to "Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrell" during my commute (Susanna Clarke) - very wordy. I've heard it described as Harry Potter for Adults.
Reading "The Good Lord Bird" by James McBride - Kind of a Huck Finn type story told from the viewpoint of a slave boy who travels with John Brown, the abolitionist.

Parts of it were pretty funny. (I didn't read it all.)

I really liked Girl on the Train. It is for adults, though.

I have a goal of reading 100 books this year. I get everything from the library, and if I get a book that I just can't get into I don't read the whole thing. So I start a lot of books I don't finish. The library I have access to is small, but I get a lot of things on loan and there are lots of books that I can get on my kindle. I am almost finished with Lena Dunham's Not That Kind of Girl. I also just got the digital version of 50 shades of grey. I haven't decided if I will actually read it though. I also got this book called Lila. I don't even remember putting in the request for it, but I've started it and it is okay and I need to read more fiction. Most of the books I've read so far this year are nonfiction- biographies or memoir type books.

I just finished reading The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown. Great read if you like history and the Olympics. It's about the 1936 men's 8-man crew team from University of Washington that won the Olympic gold medal in Berlin. It's written very much like a story, talking about many of the characters, but especially from the vantage of Joe Rantz, one of the rowers. Highly recommend it if this type of book is a genre you enjoy.

I am currently listening to the Goldfinch (still 13 hours left) and reading Room.
Room stressed me out in the beginning and I almost considered not finishing it, but I powered through the stressful part and it is good so far.

I read Room, I didn't hate it but it doesn't strike me as one that I loved. It was ok with a dash of wth, IIRC. I just finished The Dead Key by D.M. Pulley, I liked it a lot. Got it from Kindle First, so I'm not sure if it's available everywhere yet.

Re-reading "Under the Banner of Heaven" by Jon Krakauer. I am always fascinated by what makes people tick and this group (FCLS) has such an alien ideas in my opinion that it's worth at least reading about

We just finished listening to The Help... Great audio. I'm trying to decide if I want to listen to Watership Down after this? Been a long time, does anyone remember it as being very good/ 'essential' reading?
Kids and I are reading Swiftly Tilting Planet together... Not sure how we never read/listened to that one before...
I have honestly not started anything 'worthy' for myself lately... been reading short mindless romance when the time allows.

If you're looking for a good book to listen to, try The Somnambulist by Jonathan Barnes. When I was reading the book, I had to read certain parts out loud to C because the language was just absolutely meant to be read out loud, listened to. It was lovely and lyrical. (I would, however, suggest that you do NOT read/listen to the epilogue. It ruins the book. I have on friend who did read it so I can complain to her about it. The rest of you should skip it.)
Another really good read: Lost Books of the Odyssey - especially if you're someone like me whose read the actual Odyssey more times than you can count
I don't think Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell is anything like Harry Potter (or at least the first 3 Harry Potter books, it might be like some of the later ones), unless you figure that it's a book in which some people have magic abilities and others don't. It was good. I didn't hate it, and wouldn't recommend against it, but I'm also not telling people they should read it.
Books I tell people they should read: Color of Water by McBride (memoir) Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro (fiction) The Professor and the Madman by Winchester (non-fiction)
Or, if you are a sci-fi/fantasy/speculative fiction fan, just about anything by Gibson or Stephenson.
I have An Imaginary Tale: The Story of i on my bedside table waiting for me to pick it up, but haven't started it yet.

Currently reading "Stop Acting Rich...And Start Living Like A Millionaire" by Thomas Stanley. Thought I'd honor his passing by reading a few more of his books.

I know the book started as twilight fan fiction, and twilight was terribly written as well so this should come as no surprise. I just didn't expect the author to purposely try to write it the way twilight was done.
