Crap, that was on my list to do this weekend. Some people just are put on this earth to suck all the joy out of life.

There are a lot of dumb people and college students in Boston, so I have no doubt there are people doing this. (and for the record I was totally considering jumping into snow from the second floor since, well, the piles are so high I could. )

Landing on a fire hydrant or wrought-iron fence must hurt.

Now the good mayor of Boston just gave people an idea of "what you should do when the snow piles high!"

You're getting old? I remember hurricane Diane which struck New England back in 1955!

There's been a fair amount of jumping off of roofs around here. What the hell, it's often only a short drop.
Considering that we've been shoveling roofs, hanging out windows to knock snow off of overhangs and perched precariously on anything we can in an effort to save our houses from the ice dams I'd say a little fun is in order.
At this moment the snow is level with my dining room window. Jumping from the bedroom window above it would be no big deal.
We're in the suburbs so we have a bit more space to play with.

yeah, it is not every day you get to jump off your own roof without hurting yourself.

We used to carve out snow caves when the plowed snow was really high.

We used to carve out snow caves when the plowed snow was really high. Did that with my girls two weekends ago. Also built a pretty cool snow fort in the backyard. Would have kept building it but they got cold and wanted to go in. I thought it would be a little silly to stay out and keep building it by myself.

We used to carve out snow caves when the plowed snow was really high. We did that. And we built a tunnel to slide through. We dropped my baby brother, three years old, into the tunnel and it collapsed. As a child my only concern was to dig him out before Mom found out. As an adult I have no idea how we didn't manage to kill that kid. Mom found out when I was in my 20's and had moved to a different state. She was still pissed.

Not silly at all to build it by yourself. You might not have impressed your kids, but you would have impressed your neighbors. No matter how old we get, we can still be kids at heart. We just used shovels to dig into large snow piles and kept digging further into the pile, blissfully unaware the 8-10 feet of snow above us could collapse on us at any time.

Given the amount of snow in Boston, I'm shocked anyone has to actually jump from a third story window.
I would think the snow is so high at this point, all you need to do is open a window, climb out and settle in.
I hear Bostonians have invented another pastime: digging an igloo in the snow drifts and drinking inside them. I cannot find any stories on the internet to back this up, but I think some newly-minted cocktails in honor of Beantown's getting beaned by the weather are in order.
Any ideas? I'm not a cocktail drinker myself, but I'm thinking about some good names, like a Snowblower Martini, Salt Truck Fizz, Sex on a Snowdrift, Wish-I-Was-In-Singapore (Sling), Shirley Temple Black Ice and Frozen Rusty Nail.

Did anyone see on the weather channel Last night people using snow blowers on their roofs? How the hell do you get those heavy suckers up there to begin with? Let alone the navigating it. Boggles the mind. Maybe they just drove it up to the roof because the snow was so high?

www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/please-stop-snowing#.hida2R9ZApI thought you might enjoy some photos I found of our current shenanigans. And the answer to the "how to get the snowblower on the roof" question is "with a little help from your friends." And most of us have dug out our grills in case we lose power and have to cook on them.

We happen to be between storms at the moment.
