Archie, you have little kids. You survive that, you can survive anything. On a serious note, y'all take care in that region. This storm sounds serious. I have family in the NYC and Baltimore areas and friends in CT, and this all looks just fugly. The real question is if they kids will survive! ;-) Good thing archie's not snipped yet! There will be an epic fight over those two jars of peanut butter. Archie is outnumbered.

I do know that school. Did they rebuild? One of the schools on ODS' college list this year was Springfield College which also suffered substantial damage in that tornado. Springfield College is not too far away from the high school. So no surprise there was damage there too. I have been following the news whether to scrap it all together or rebuild. When I attended the high school back in the late '60s, there were 4 grades with a population of 2,800 students. At the time the tornado hit, there were about 400 high school students attending. The diocese had portioned off a small section to have a grades 1-8 academy within the building. Low student body because the school was now charging tuition of about $9,000 per student. When I attended, it was free. Many residents and quite a few alumni what the same sized building rebuilt which is ridiculous because the school would never be filled. The school will never, ever have the number of students attending like we had when I graduated in '69. Use the property but build a much smaller school. Time will tell what the diocesan office decides to do with the federal disaster monies and property.

Been snowing here all morning, lightly. Sun was out most of the morning through the snow showers, but it's gone now, getting a little more steady now.

ROFL--great memories!!! But, I am a mean parent. We live in the one Massschusetts school district that RARELY cancels. Of course, since the Governor declared a state of emergency, there will be no school tomorrow, but only because of the declaration. :-)~ The very best steep hill in my neighborhood to sled or toboggan (actually two levels of hills (down one, level off, and continue on down again without stopping)) was at..., wait for it..., my high school which was a five minute walk away! But because students were also bussed in from surrounding towns (a Catholic high school), school was canceled and it made sense to do so. You may remember my high school in Springfield-it was pretty much destroyed during the June, 2011 EF3 tornado that ripped through Springfield. We used to live right next to Mount Royal and I remember spending weekends sledding. Those were the days. No worries about frozen water pipes or frozen batteries or shovelling the car out. Not my problem. That's what the adults were for.

Yup. Not wanting to be the anxious adult right now. I grew up here, so have plenty of winter-weather experience under my belt. I just can't stop worrying about falling trees, LOL!!!

You are not very reassuring with the tree talk. I hope the 3 in neighbor's yard behind me fall on her house, not mine, or I will be incredibly pissed. Work has been cancelled for me for tonight and tomorrow. I have enough alcohol to put me in a couple of stupors. I'm good. Never made it to the grocery store but I need to lose weight anyway. We have more than enough cat food if it comes to that.

Neither did we since ours had all been cut down after one fell through the roof about 6 years ago. We weren't living here yet but all of our neighbors told us about it. I think we'll be ok and I'll just have to pick up a crapload more branches this summer. Can't wait. At least I have a grill to put them in now. Yay! The driveway, on the other hand, ugh. At least I parked at the end so I only have to shovel a small amount and then my nice neighbor will plow me out. This is definitely going to be the year to buy a car that is taller than 18 inches off the ground. Don't ask me how I managed 13 years with it but I did.

I hate snow - good luck to everyone in the path. My DH brews, so we're good there at least.

I have an idea -> could all of you expecting several feet of snow just divert a couple of them to the California side if the Sierras? We are on track to the dryest January ever recorded here in NorCal(and never to be beaten only matched): not a drop of rain in SF this month and January is historically our wettest month! Stay safe and warm all of you in the path of this storm

I also don't like hot weather states and I am not moving to God's Graveyard, aka Florida, for any amount of money in the world. Maybe I'll move to Fiji and live on the beach. Do they have any adverse weather there? I know nothing about it except that Gauguin(sp.?) liked to paint there.

Brewer stops us from leaving the area. My only hope is that one of my kids eventually moves to a better weather state (but since my oldest isn't even 5 yet, it will be a while) and I can convince him to follow them (if they allow it!).

You can rent a house for $20 a month. Just watch out for tigers when you go to the outside loo.
Maybe I'll rescue a tiger cub and name him Richard Parker II. That name just cracks me up.

Sorry. I need indoor plumbing. No outhouses for me. Although now that I think about it, does Fiji even HAVE plumbing? I wouldn't mind the pet tiger though.

It's at the eastern point of the Himalayas. Fiji doesn't have tigers. Well, except for tiger sharks, but I wouldn't want one of those.

My son just came over, pissing and moaning about how cold it is. "Would you rather have three feet of snow? Consider yourself lucky that it's too cold to snow here. You'd have to do a LOT of shovelling. Your two cars and mine."

You'd have to do a LOT of shovelling. Your two cars and mine." Sorry. I know it was Bhutan and where it is. I got sidetracked about the lack of indoor plumbing and then went off on a tangent. I don't do mountains so that would be out as I am afraid of heights. Just because I was born in the mountains does not make me like them. I lived in the foothills of Colorado for 3 semesters and hated every last minute of it. I never should have sobered up then maybe it would have been bearable. Tiger sharks might make great pets. It's not like shark week doesn't visit this household once a month, every month. At least for now. DH wouldn't mind a pet tiger shark or tiger, for that matter. I think we'll stick to cats for now.

I'm thinking of taking a selfie of me after hour 5 of lockdown and then taking one of me after hour 30 of lockdown. All work and no play makes Jen something something.....
