My question to those who have actually paid for their kids' education is: Do you feel they appreciate it or is the end result an entitlement mentality?
I would never jeopardize our lives for another adult. It seems borrowing off a home could end up being a negative for the parents. Just my thoughts.

I would just like to our student loans paid off before my kids start college. We have 11 years to go before the first one starts. We will probably help the kids somewhat through cashflow at the time but not bother saving anything beforehand. If we are in a position to help them pay their student loans afterwards, we may do that too.

My grandparents paid my EC for me. I really appreciated it and felt accountable to them because they were paying hard earned money for me to go to school. I had a really rough time for a semester and for me personally it would have been easier to drop if it was MY money because it is just that MY money, the only person who has to face the music is me.
I found it a lot harder to think about having to explain to my grandparents that I pissed away the money they gave me.
Personally when I was in college the ones I heard talking about how they did not care it was "mom and dad's money" were kids who didn't even want to be in college in the first place, their parents forced them to go so they were going to screw their parents by flunking out.
