OMG. I have to come back here. I've just been "Yay! I met my goal! Let's CELEBRATE!!!"...for like a month straight now. There have been two big parties at my house for the kids birthdays with tons of crap food and leftover crap food and I've just been having a good old time not tracking calories. I stepped on the scale this morning for the first time in a long time and am up 4. Not HORRIBLE, but trust me, it's moving towards that number getting bigger, not smaller. I just suck at the maintaining part.

hey sarcasticgirl I forgot to say last week that your kind words really made me feel better. Being overweight is really weird - I feel like people look at me and judge me for it. Ouch!! It's rough. This week I am just kind of hanging out until I see the nutritionist on Friday. Not eating horrible, probably not great. Going to my first class at the gym tomorrow! Welcome back mpl and good luck! I understand about maintaining. I've realized that even when I one day get back to a reasonable size/weight, the battle won't be over. I will always have to be careful about what I eat. Bummer! I'm only 32 so maybe 40 or more years of being careful and not eating that piece of cake!

missk82 - That is nice to hear, I'm glad it helped a bit. being overweight is weird and very hard. It is difficult to find what works for your body, because we are all so very different. And people just keep touting "CALORIES IN vs. CALORIES OUT" but we all know that the body isn't that simple and sometimes the math doesn't add up. I am 35 and have been in the 200s for about 7 or 8 years. I've always been fairly active and have a relatively healthy diet. I don't do fast food or much in the way of junk food. I have always struggled to lose anything at all and it has been so frustrating doing everything according to "the rules" and not having it work. A few years ago, I learned I have a metabolic disorder which makes things harder. Of course, my recent success has been due to the fact that I finally kicked sugar and flour to the curb in order to help my allergies and heal my gut. I might have a slice of bread once a week. if that. My calorie intake hasn't changed, but the pounds just dropped off little by little. This is what works for me. This certainly isn't going to work for everyone. And it certainly doesn't make me happy... but it makes my body happy and because I feel significantly better, it does make it easier to stick with it. I sincerely hope your nutritionist is amazing and you are able to find what works for you!!! it will always be a bit of a struggle, but I bet that once you find your groove and incorporate it into your life, it will be easier than you think. Build in a splurge once a week, it helps from going bonkers!

Does anyone know, does a fit bit "read" the elliptical machine?
It isn't going to read it as an elliptical work out. What kind of fit bit do you have? If you have a new one with a HRM, then p you can click the button to go into work out mode and it will register your workout. Just click the button to stop it when you are done and you can see the workout stats. Otherwise, you can manually log the workout. Sent from my Nexus 10 I don't have one. I mostly do the elliptical for cardio. There is a huge discrepancy between the elliptical's calorie gauge and myfitnesspal's calorie gauge. I don't have money for a fitbit right now, but if it accurately tracks calories burned on an elliptical, I might consider one.

I agree that maintaining is difficult. I have a huge sugar addiction. I've not yet given serious attempts at breaking it. I could eat whatever I wanted until I turned 30.

It is a polar with a chest strap. You can input your age, height weight etc and it uses your heart rate to calculate calories. I used it regularly before getting my fit bit charge HR. I'm just back from a 10 day vacation- the 2nd trip I had this month- and ready to buckle back down. I had so many plans today, but I am just exhausted. The weather started to cool down before we left, but yesterday it was back above 80 degrees and we have no AC. Plus we ended up sitting in a train compartment with a bunch of people that had been drinking all day so the smell was horrendous and none of the windows would open. It was that or stand, and last time I stood on a train in such hot weather I passed out. This has been the hottest summer in the 6 years I have lived in Germany. Normally we get a few weeks of hot weather, and then it is back to the high 60s. Not this year. We've had 100+ degree temps and months of most days being at least 80 degrees. We live in a duplex and our windows are west facing so the afternoons are miserable. Plus last night I had awful sleep in part because of how hot it was even with a fan blowing on us, but because the dogs were so restless. I had to let them out in the middle of the night, then I fell asleep and when I got up to bring them in they were soaked from the rain. I was so tired I didn't care. They paced around all night so I didn't sleep well. We have no healthy food in the house since we cleaned the pantry before leaving. We stopped at the grocery store and all the produce looked wilted and picked over so we just got enough for dinner last night. So at some point I have to go shopping again. It's so hot already that I don't feel like eating. I didn't eat breakfast, and I can't stomach the thought of lunch. I'm trying to drink a lot of water because that makes me feel cooler.

I have to reign my eating in. I ran a race last week, and I used it as an excuse for a few weeks to eat lots of carbs and other stuff I really shouldn't have. So, now it's time to get back on the wagon, so to speak. UGH! My love/hate relationship with my scale is definitely on the hate side today!

I took my first ever fitness class last night - and I liked it! It was mainly a lower body work out and my legs and butt are SCREAMING at me today! It was a lot of fun and I'm going to try to make it every Wednesday.
I made these DELICIOUS quinoa turkey meatballs the other day. They were so good and pretty filling as well! I put panko in it to hold it together, but read you could substitute parmesan cheese to make it gluten free.
I go to the nutritionist tomorrow - fingers crossed she will be what I need!
Hope everyone is doing well today!

Hi ladies! Feeling energized today, came home, took the beast for a walk about a Mile, since he is older he can't hack it too long when it is warm. Then DH and I went for a 3 nice walk. Over 16000 steps so far today! Making up for a less than stellar start to the week when I was dealing with a summer cold.

Ok. Time to get serious. When I get home tonight I am throwing out all the leftover junk from the party. All the cake, chips, cheesecake, caramel bars, and ice cream! I'm even going to toss the half a container of whipping cream I've been using in drinks. I seriously cannot have this crap in the house or I will eat it. In excess. Ok...I might save some cream for a White Russian Sunday night when I get home from dropping my kids off with the grandparents. FIVE DAYS with no kids deserves one fatty drink!

Had a fun shopping day today. New York and company was having a great sales and I was able to stock up on some pants for work in the next size down. My pants are getting to big and the next size down is pretty close to fitting perfectly. Just snug around the waist, where I carry my weight. I also got a dress, some shorts and 2 tops... All in a smaller size. And did I mention. 50% off? Shopping is so much more fun these days!

I am still leading the step challenge, Ahead of the closet competitor by 35000 . Ahead of the competitor that is out of town by 66,000. Still on pace to hit my 400,000. steps. This was as of yesterday morning. Weight down 1 pound.
That is the good news now the bad I will out of town for a few days. Have to cram 5 days of work into 3. Step count was low on Sunday so my lead maybe less when the new totals are posted.
Off to get in a few steps before work.
Have a great week everyone.

Go ners!!!
Down a pound on the scale today. Though, I know I am retaining water, my ring feels tight. So lots of water and green tea for me today! Got lots of steps in for the weekend- just over 27000 for the weekend. (Also 25 flights of stairs yesterday) Had a weekend fit bit competition with a co-worker and that really got me going last night. I just HAD to win! lol
Started strength yesterday- a little core, lower body and arms.
Feeling super motivated. want to be comfortably fitting in my smaller pants in a few weeks. The core work will certainly make that possible.

I've been a slug. I haven't even been riding my bike. It's been SO HOT outside!
But I'm about to get dressed and load the bike so I can hit the trail before it starts steaming outside.
Have a good day everyone!

I didn't think I should try to jump back into the 15 mile range since I've been off my bike for 2 weeks and it's so hot. So I went to the creepy trail where I wouldn't be more than 3.5 miles from my car no matter which way I went. And I took it fairly easy. I don't think I lost much strength, but I lost some of the endurance I'd built up. I rode 9.7 miles in 51 minutes. Lawd hamercy it's hot. I couldn't even enjoy my favorite resting spot. Sitting down was worse than riding. At least you get some wind while you're riding. I only sat long enough to sip some water. When I got back on my bike and took off, the wind on my sweaty arms and legs felt wonderful! I didn't ride far, but I did get my butt out there and I'm glad I did. As my 3yo grandson says.... "Ta Daa!", I'm back y'all.

So I met with the nutritionist last Friday and it was very interesting! She talked about how she looks at everything holistically and sort of how your body tries to tell you things but we don't always notice. For me, I've had eczema for years, and it could very well be a sign of a food sensitivity (probably dairy, maybe gluten). So I am probably going to get a GI panel done to see how my digestive system is working and see if I have any reactions to the 4 allergens - gluten, dairy, egg and soy. It's an interesting approach, but if a sensitivity is holding me back from losing weight and being healthy, I'd rather know now than in 6 months. And if it's not an issue, at least I will know that too.
I also filled out a nutritional questionnaire so that at our next meeting she will have more, concrete suggestions for me. The first meeting was kind of a health over view and my goals.
She also talked about being open to change and she sensed something was kind of holding me back. In a way I think she was right...it's not necessarily great to be unhealthy, but being overweight isn't reason to not love yourself and recognize your worth, and I feel like I am struggling with that a lot. She was very insightful, and I think this journey will be a lot more mind-body and not just body!

missk82, that does sound interesting. Looks like you'll be learning some things about yourself and your body. The mind-body connection is one of the things I enjoy about yoga even though I don't practice it regularly anymore. I think we get so caught up in the demands of our lives that we don't really pay attention to the things our bodies try to tell us. Until it starts screaming at us lol. And I do believe there's often a connection between our mental/emotional health and our physical health. Good luck to you on this new journey. I look forward to hearing about some of the things you learn along the way!

missk82 - This is how my dr. is too! she is awesome and as much as it sucks to have to cut out food groups, it is so worth it to feel better! I would have NEVER thought i'd ever be able to cut out dairy. but, i've ditched dairy, eggs, flour and sugar all because of food sensitivities and damned if I don't feel so much better. And of course, have dropped about 15 pounds in the 2 months since I really went ALL IN. I have little bit about once or twice a week. usually a soft pretzel at a base ball game. or some eggs at brunch. I try and keep it in check, because I do feel it afterwards. Yesterday, i went all out and had a super thin crust breakfast pizza with cheese, overeasy eggs, prosciutto and bacon. I asked them to go light on the cheese, and I ate less than half- OMG IT WAS SO GOOD. but I felt the effects yesterday with my sinuses, and today, my stomach just isn't 100% settled. I am glad you like her and are open to the testing and changes that could be coming your way. So many people are like "I COULD NEVER DO THAT!" and then continue to be miserable. having an open mind is the hardest part- you're already there! Good luck to you!!! @pinkcshmere kicking ass on the bike! way to go.

Thanks y'all! I'll keep you posted - I think it will be an interesting process.
sarcastic when you say you've quit dairy, is it anything that has ever had milk in it? Like a cake with milk in the batter, or just the big items like milk, yogurt, cheese, ice cream, etc.? Just curious.
This nutritionist was talking about "healing your gut" and bringing things back into balance. It kind of gave me the impression that once you're gut is healed, you could POSSIBLY add back in some of the stuff that was irritating it, but probably in small amounts. That would be nice, especially if it's dairy! I don't need ice cream every week, but a couple of times a year would be awesome!

YES! healing the gut. that's what my dr. talked all about too. with a lot of food sensitivities, you ditch all the foods for a certain amount of time- maybe 60 days and then you can try reintroducing them. Sometimes they reintroduce just fine, but sometimes not. I don't see any reason why you couldn't have some every now and then. Like I said, i have little portions every now and then. as for dairy- i ditch it all except butter- it doesn't have the lactose that causes problems. I don't really do cake since i ditched flour and eggs and sugar too. again- i have some on occasion, just not regularly.

I was also getting sick a LOT! because my gut was so unbalanced, my immune system was crap AND i had horrible indigestion with just about everything. Once the gut started healing, my immune system (most of which is in the gut) got better and my indigestion is better. It is amazing how one thing just dominos!

sarcasticgirl Oh good! It makes me feel a little better that this sounds familiar to you. It's not that I don't trust her, but I'm not too familiar with all of this - which is why I went to an expert! I'm sorry that you've had to cut out SO MUCH but I'm glad you are feeling better! Honestly, I think it will be so worth it to give something up if I feel better and lose weight. I'm not sick too often, but I do have annoying eczema on my hands, feet and legs. If that clears up - WOW!

I only rode 6.6 miles this morning. I left the house later than I'd planned and it was already over 90 degrees at 10am. So I cut the ride short. And came home and took a nap lol. I usually love summer, but for some reason I'm really struggling with the heat this year.

Good job Pink! I'm from Texas and you don't do outside stuff in the summer unless it's going to the pool. Turns out, when you move to the Midwest, people do all sorts of things in the summer! Bike rides, hiking, cook outs...a whole new world opened up! Not that you should move!

I went to my fitness class again last night. My legs realized what I was doing and did get tired easily, but I am happy to report that I can walk just fine today, unlike last week! It was a great lower body workout! I'm going to see what classes they offer Saturday.
Scale is about the same. I'm keeping a food log and scheduling my next appointment with the nutritionist. And am probably getting some lab work done. That's all!

When I cut dairy my PMS completely stops. I have no cramps or mood swings. Once I actually start I have light cramping instead of moderate.

My job has a series of healthy "challenges" throughout the year, and if you enter enough of them, you get a credit on your health insurance premium the following year. So, I always do them, because it's an easy way to earn/save/whatever a decent chunk of money. August's challenge is to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables you eat. 5 servings a day, 4 days a week for the month and you get credit for doing this. I signed up 3 days ago. Thinking, hey, I've got this, even though it doesn't count until next week, I'll start this week. Um, my diet is lacking!! I consistently get 3 servings a day. I supposed I could be overestimating what a serving size is (meaning I put in 1 serving, but I'm actually eating 2 servings), and it's not tied to MyFitnessPal, nor built like a calorie tracker, which isn't helping. I don't consistently track calories in an app, but when there are leftover calories, I eat them. In the form of dessert. So I do better not tracking in general. So, my general plan is that I will just eat more fruits and veggies. Because more can't be bad for me, right?! Whatever, it's just one more thing for me to obsess over And oh yeah, I've already done enough of these that I have earned the credit. I just can't stop myself from trying!!
