My friend picked up her new bike today and went riding with us. What a difference a better bike made! We kept looping back near the cars so we could quit when she was ready and it was 8.9 miles before she was ready to stop. I don't think I'll have to be concerned about going easy for her for long. It might be the other way around lol.
She's really excited about this new adventure and keeps thanking me for getting her out there. I didn't really do anything though, other than try to be welcoming and help her be comfortable. I'm glad she went, we all had a good time.
On another note, I think I'm sleeping a little better lately. I've had serious sleep issues for over a decade. If better sleep is a benefit of riding my bike, that alone makes it worthwhile.

@patstab, "Just need to scrape the grill and clean it." That's no small deal if it's anything like my BBQ

If it's a propane or gas BBQ, no problem. Turn on the burner(s) to high, and run them for 20-30 min to get the gunk on the grates burned off - then use a wire BBQ brush to scrape off the ashes.
You can then "clean" the grates by hosing them down and letting them dry. If they're porcelain, it's a lot easier. If they're wire, you can also do a further cleaning (after the initial burn-off) with some steel wool or S.O.S/Brillo pads and good rinse.
The trick is to not let them get too "gunky" in the first place.

I haven't tackled the hills in my neighborhood in a while. Riding the trails is much more pleasant. But since the hills are more work, I should probably still work them in too. I would think conquering the hills will help me ride better and farther on the trails. It will be interesting to see how well I do (or don't) with the hills now.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Luncheon today, picnic tomorrow and I'm supposed to bring pasta salad to that. Loads of carbs I've got weekdays figured out. Bar & coffee for breakfast, hb egg / raw veggies / fruit for lunch, more veggies / fruit / protein for dinner, frozen whipped yogurt for dessert. There's tons of variety in that plan so it should be do - able Weighed in at MDs last night and I'm 24.9 BMI. Measured waist @ 30" this morning Goal = 28" waist / 22 BMI / able to hike in Alaska without losing my breath (7/12-7/19)

I think I might wimp out and go for 24 BMI. That would be 6 lbs. Not sure I'll ever get back to 22. Interim goals ok?

Once you reach your first goal, you can always set another.

I didn't ride the hills today. I can't seem to resist the trails if someone else wants to go. My friend wanted to go to the trail, so off I went to the trail. We seem to be stuck around 10 miles and an hour of riding. It feels like I'm just getting warmed up good by the time he's ready to quit. I pushed him a little by riding faster sometimes, but I don't try to convince him to ride longer. I'm still gaining weight! If I was doing this to lose weight, I'd really be discouraged. The scale is still going up and my pants are still getting tighter on my thighs and butt. I'm about to be in trouble with my clothes because while most of my pants aren't tight, I do buy them in a close fit. I don't have room in my clothes to keep growing. My favorite pairs of jeans fit me like a glove when I bought them, I'm almost skeert to try them on now. If I can't get in them, I'm going to be really sad because I paid a lot for them and one pair, I've only worn once. Anyhoo, my eating habits haven't gotten worse, so that's not the reason for the weight gain. I'll just keep focusing on riding my bike as often as I can and see what happens.

That is way better than just putting your height and weight into a chart. My chart tells me.my BMI is one thing, and my doctor does the proper measurements and gives me a different number, luckily, a BETTER number! Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards

RN weighed me in and was okay but I'm not. Either I lose weight or replace all my clothes. Cheaper to lose weight and healthier too
They use a combination of height, weight, age, body fat, waist to hip ratio. I'm 24.9 BMI BUT my waist is too high for my body type. Needs to be 28" max.

@patstab, my daughter cleaned my grill for me yesterday. Only because she wanted to use it lol. I don't think it got used at all last summer, and I didn't cover it this past winter. She grilled ribs, chicken wings, hamburgers and potatoes. I put 2 salmon filets out there. I'm great at grilling hamburgers and steaks. Everything else is hit or miss. Sometimes it turns out really good, sometimes it's just ok. My salmon yesterday was just ok, I've done better. It rained last night and it's suppose to rain today, so I don't know if I'll get to ride my bike today. Boooo!

I am exhausted!!! We are on our 3rd day of working at the new apt. We gutted and put in New kitchen cabinetry and sink. I made. Pegboard to hang a'la Julia Child for pots and pans. Shelves are going up right now and I am taking a break from painting. I HATE that we have had to spend so much of my parents visit here, but the weather is so crappu, all of our plans, which were outdoor have been rained out. We'll have a free day tomorrow and hopefully we can find something fun to do.
Nutrition hasn't been fantastic, but the scale is still moving downward. My back is KILLING me! Much needed core workout, yoga and stretching will be in order this week.

I am pretty wiped out from this weekend's tourney, I spent a lot of time playing center - which I don't do very often. and I'm still trying to figure out why my right triceps are just killing me. it seriously took both hands to shift my car into 6th gear this morning. I tried to eat healthy this weekend, for the most part. the unhealthiest thing I've had was probably dinner tonight and the Mt Dew I grabbed at Target this morning when I was standing in the checkout line feeling like it was a tossup between passing out and puking. hello, sugar crash. I made myself a turkey sandwich when I got home, before even bringing the bags in from the car. dinner tonight was a pepper jack and deli buffalo chicken quesadilla, since the chicken's only got another day or so before turning. I'm still kind of munchie hungry, so we'll see what else I snack on before calling it a night. I'll wait to weigh in until tomorrow, if not Tuesday. I didn't drink nearly enough water while I played this weekend, and I want to let that dehydration settle out before seeing what results I have to show for all of it.

I was sluggish on my ride today. This was the first time I was the one that wanted to quit. He wouldn't let me quit before 10 miles though. Maybe it was the leftover bbq ribs and spaghetti I ate. :-(
For some reason, yesterday and today I was sweating like crazy while I was riding, like I'd just stepped out of the shower or something. I normally don't sweat much, even when I exert myself. That's good because to me, sweating usually means stop moving. I don't like being sweaty. It wasn't any hotter or more humid than some of my other rides. It started early in the ride before I even started working hard. Well I never did really work hard today, maybe a for minute every once in a while lol. If my gear didn't have moisture wicking material I would've been a mess. Any ideas on what's the deal with the inreased sweating?

how was the humidity where you are, relative to average? if it was high, that would do it even w/o the ride. my roommate and another friend went running Friday and both of them came back wheezing and near death if you believe them lol...... I bailed on the day b/c I had a game that night, but Friday was oppressively humid here.

I know it's not technically summer yet, but we've been in the 90's for at least the last week. Some days it feels like the air is heavy or something when the humidity is really high. Yesterday and today didn't feel like those swimming through the air days. I didn't feel any different or more tired yesterday (today, I wasn't really tired, just feeling lazy), I was just sweating buckets.

I just counted today as an easy day. I'm riding tomorrow, not riding Tuesday because I'm getting my hair relaxed. Bike riding is really wreaking havoc on keeping my hair together! But that's another story.
I've been riding 4 or 5 days a week so far. Maybe I do need more of a break. I'll see how it goes tomorrow. I'm riding with my friend with the new bike.

I had a talk with DH about our diets. Between my family coming to visit and our 9 year anniversary I haven't made any progress. I'm still sitting at 180.6 so at least there wasn't a big gain. My real concern is my blood pressure. I have a pap smear scheduled tomorrow and I am pretty sure something will be said about my blood pressure. I do not want to take meds, but I don't think I'll be able to get the doctor to give me more time for lifestyle changes. So I am making some drastic changes with the hope that if they put me on meds that it will only be a month or so before I can get off them. I'm going off of all alcohol, added sugar, and added salt. This morning I had my coffee black. It was hard to choke down, but I needed the caffeine. After I get rid of my sugar cravings I might give up coffee too. I've been told that it contributes to high blood pressure in some people so I'll just have to see. One things for sure though, I don't want to sit around drinking coffee when it doesn't have half and half and sugar in it.

I reeeeally over estimated the exercise I would get in this weekend! Saturday afternoon we had my inlaws, sister in law and her boyfriend over for a small family party for my son who just turned 2. It wa sjust family so no big deal right? Well, turns out it is a big deal if your house hasn't been cleaned in months.. We spend 7:30am - 3:30pm prepping the house, grocery shopping and prepping food for the party. Just in time for everyone to come over at 4! So no work out. Then Sunday I had promised a friend I'd get a pedicure with her (she's about to spend 2 weeks in Italy - lucky!) So between that, more grocery shopping, and going to church, no work out again. I'm also breastfeeding my 3 month old, so any activity that gets done is arranged around her feeding schedule, which adds in a slight layer of complication to things! But I don't feel like I just sat around all weekend, so that was good. The worst part was the 4 cupcakes I ate this weekend. Oops. I need to think of an exercise plan for this week. We are going out of town this weekend to a "ranch" with a ton of extended family. It's going to be a lot of fun! I feel like there will be lots of food I'll need t o avoid or eat in moderation, but I also think it will be an active weekend. Hopefully they cancel out! I'm sad I won't be able to go to my gym though.

I'm down a pound to 179.6, but this is not a big shock. The beginning of a diet usually produces good results for me. Still it is nice to be in the 170s. This is where I have been messing up month after month. I really am committed to just keeping up with things no matter what, and I'm not going to make adjustments to what I am doing for at least 6 weeks. I remember that 2 week stretch I lost nothing the entire time, got defeating, binged, then saw results the next morning, but by then I was already back in a binge cycle so I recognize it is important to give my body time for things to work.
I feel pretty good today. Yesterday afternoon I got a little headachy and felt unwell. I had the urge to eat junk food, but fought it off. I expected to have a headache or something this morning, but I don't. I feel clear and calm. I have to walk my dogs, and I'm trying to stay as calm and relaxed as possible before my doctor's appointment.

Went to the grocery store last night to pick up some more produce to make salads for my lunches. Healthy food is so expensive! It cost me $30 for: spinach, lettuce, strawberries, tomatoes, 5 yogurts, mushrooms. That will be my breakfast and lunches for the week, as well as some for dinners & lunches for the kiddos. I didn't even buy the organic produce!! And that's not even all of my meals since I already had the dressing, eggs, and bacon at home that I typically put on top of my salads.
I figured it up, and just my food costs about $10/day if I am being careful. With 4 people in the household, no wonder our grocery bill is outrageous! Also shows the difference between Aldi and the big chain store nearby. I could have gotten my things at Aldi last night for at least $10 less, but they close at 8 and I couldn't leave until the kids were in bed (DH was home but working). I need to do better at planning so I can get to Aldi and save more money on our groceries.

I'm sad I won't be able to go to my gym though. Some things I do to exercise when at home with the kiddos - 1) chase DD around the house. She will yell "you have to catch me to hug me!" and off we run. Up and down the stairs, around the kitchen and living room, all over. We do this for 5-10 minutes at a time. Wears us both out or 2) while DD is worn out and watching her shows, I pick up the baby and walk up & down the stairs. Sometimes I put him in the carrier, sometimes I just hold him. I time it and try to keep up the same pace walking for 5 minutes. Then I go back downstairs and lay the baby down and do pushups over him, so that when I go down we are nose-to-nose. Keeps my form honest (so I don't smash him!) and he thinks it is hilarious! or 3) whenever we are watching shows and commercials come on, we get up and dance to the music. Just little bursts of energy! Jump, hop, boogie around

Everything went well at my doctor's appointment. My blood pressure was okay, and I'm caught up on my pap smear. I went to the library afterwards, but didn't find anything interesting. I picked up some stuff at the store and just had the urge to get junk food which I never do. The fruit didn't look good so I was hoping DH would get home from work early enough for us to go to the self pick strawberry place, but not sure that will happen. I'm going to make black bean fajitas with sauteed bell pepper and onion tonight except we are eating them on lettuce leaves. I never get tired of them. I already made some salsa and I have avocado to add to them too. Just waiting until an appropriate time to start cooking, it's not quite 5pm here and sometimes if I eat too early then I want to eat more even though I'm not hungry.

Discovered something about me yesterday. Got a free cookie at Safeway, went back for a 2nd. But it's ugly head reared up after dinner. I had the munchies!! Nothing satisfied me until I had a protein bar (5 gm more sugar). Cookies evidently set off a binge

I'm sitting here with a frozen Yoplait chocolate whip yogurt. So decadent
Will then polish it off with a tall cold glass of orange spice herbal iced tea
Life is good
