I've been doing horrible with eating lately. I haven't been snacking or anything...which was my old problem. It's just that the food choices for meals have not been good. Lots of grilling with the nice weather and apparently, hamburgers and brats aren't good for you according to MyFitnessPal. I really like hamburgers and brats. Anyhow, having a hard time sticking to my calorie goal and I feel hungry more.

It's snowing. I really don't want to go out there for my walk. Happy psychotic spring!

I skip the bun, top it with an egg and some honey mustard 250 calories. And it is so good. Sometimes I throw a slice of bacon on it to round it out to about 300 calories, then a big pile of salad on the side. I had that twice for dinner last week! I'm ok with turkey burgers, but I usually get a quarter of beef once a year from the neighbors for pretty cheap and fill my freezer. I don't put a bun or anything on it either most of the time. If anything, I use one of those whole wheat sandwich thins that are 100 calories. I guess, just knowing how fatty/calorie laden they are now helps. Having them for several meals in a row...not good. Which is what I do a lot because I like to fill up the grill when I get it going rather than waste charcoal.

Enjoy your hamburgers & brats, just limit the carbs for that meal. No chips or buns, but load up the burger and enjoy a big salad with some real ranch dressing

That's about it for the weekend grill out leftovers. Tonight lasagna!

I never pay attention to fat content. fat as a micro nutrient doesn't make you fat. Carbs on the other hand are another story. Like Sam said, paired with a nice salad it will be super filling!

It seems after 10-15lbs of loss, the body seems to stall. Like it needs a minute to catch up with it's new "normal" before continuing on. Those extreme weight loss shows have kind of skewed things for everyone. .5-1lb loss per week is a great, sustainable pace. My mom has another 20lbs to go and she's getting discouraged that it may take her a year to get there. But I keep reminding her that it took way longer than a year to get it on, and her body needs time to adjust back. I am so proud of her for sticking with it, though. She's lost 8lbs so far since starting with me in January. But the most amazing part is she's been able to wean off her pain meds for her arthritis. That was more due to cutting out sugar than the weight loss, but continued loss will help as well.

Hi Ladies! After my neck injury I had 3 chiro apts and was good as new! Thank Goodness!
Today was DAY NINE of P90X3! I am doing great with getting it done everyday. I have a good schedule set up now that I have moved to live with fiancé and work from home. I get up at 5am, go into my office/workout room and turn on my computer and DVD player. While they are booting up I go change into workout clothes, brush my teeth, fill my water, etc. Then I go log into my computer and while my programs are opening I do my 30-40 mins of P90X3. When I am done I shower and am ready to get to work by 6am. My schedule starts at 8am, so I get 2hrs of OT in every morning. I work for my 8hrs, and while working I try to do arm exercises, squats, lunges, etc. I often times have meetings via phone, or long hold times, and these are great opportunities to get in a few reps! My shift ends at 4:30 and I frequently work more OT (since I no longer have any commute time!) and then have the rest of the evening to do housework, be with DF, and relax. I try to be in bed by 10pm at the LATEST. One of the many things they stress on the P90X3 is to focus on getting enough rest. I am loving working from home, living with DF, and I also am really enjoying the P90X3, it keeps things fresh!
Food is still a struggle. I shouldn't blame anyone else....but honestly.....DF SUX at this! He says he will try to help me, support me, etc......then he brings home a pizza?! HUH?! He loves to eat and so do I and I have a hard enough time with willpower as is, but if it's not here, I CANT eat it....Bringing at here is already a fail for me....Blah...LOL. I am for sure vocal about how I feel about the bad food he brings home so hoping he is finally getting it.
I have not bought any pop for the house since I have been living here...about 2 weeks. I still have an occasional pop if we go out to eat. But I know that needs to stop too. I primarily drink water with Crystal Lite, I found a peach tea one that is AMAZING!
Today I went to the grocery store and made some BIG changes. I bought Silk brand milk. I got a cashew one and a almond/coconut blend, both are unsweetened. I love milk, I drink it a lot and I was extremely skeptical of these "weird" milks. But I tried both of them when I got home and I thought both tasted good! They were on sale for $3.50 which I guess is pretty good deal on this kind of milk. I also bought Miracle Whip Light (previously had been having mayo which I LOVE), also cottage cheese, wheat low carb tortillas (no more white bread sandwiches), a head of lettuce, bag of spinach, and low cal vinaigrette dressing. DF had already bought us a lot of healthy stuff (grilled chicken breasts, veggies, yogurt, etc.). I am excited about these changes I am trying especially with the milk, mayo, and bread changes.
For dinner I made a BOMB salad. Iceberg lettuce, spinach, fresh mushrooms, red sweet peppers, yellow sweet peppers, tomatoes, hard boiled eggs and jalapeno ranch. YUMMMMMMMY! The jalapeno ranch is less then half a jar left so I will finish that out and then switch to the vinaigrette which has a much lower fat content.
I am not impressed my weight loss, but at least I have a plan, and finally being moved is key for me to have time to exercise. I am excited to continue with the P90X3 and the positive food changes.
194.0lbs 4/22/15(199.0 lbs 4/1/15) Down 5lbs
Hope everyone is well!!

Back at the chiropractor today... My left side is so messed up, shoulder, neck, clavical, back , arm. All of it. I have to go back again tomorrow for some electro stem therapy. Hoping they can get me in to see a massage therapist too. I want this fixed asap! I need to strength train!
Right now I am just exhausted, in pain and stressed. Ugh!

My DH is out of town for awhile, so I am really trying to focus on my eating. Not just what I eat, but how often I snack. I've done a good job stocking up on things like veggies, hummus, frozen fish, rice, beans, lettuce. And, I've actually eating it! I'm notorious for buying it with good intentions, then going out to lunch every day, or eating dinner out a couple times a week. So far this week, the only meal I've eaten out was last night. I have my lunch packed for tomorrow already. Hopefully I make thru this weekend not eating out. And not over-snacking! My DH likes to snack after dinner and even if I'm not starving, if he's snacking, I snack. Fingers crossed I stay the course for another week or so and then it will just be habit to not snack

I bought a decent pair of running shoes today. They're really comfy for walking, haven't tried running in them yet. I did get over 9,000 steps in just from walking to my various medical appointments and errands today, so I'm glad I bought the comfy shoes at the beginning of the day!

I tried something new today that may revolutionize my life. Cauliflower crust pizza! I was honestly afraid to try it because I hate cauliflower, but it was really good! I couldn't even tell it wasn't a regular crust. I may be able to pig out on pizza and have it be healthy! She said it's really easy to make and was going to send out the recipe.

I couldn't even tell it wasn't a regular crust. this- i cannot believe. It's true! And I HATE cauliflower. Every fiber of my being was trying to detect the taste of it and start gagging, but I couldn't. This other girl that loves cauliflower said she could detect a hint of the flavor, but not me. I was like, THIS IS PIZZA! AWESOME PIZZA! eta: She sent me the recipe she used. 2 cups grated raw cauliflower 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese 2 eggs (can add seasoning: salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder, Italian seasoning) Mix together and spread on a parchment paper lined pizza or baking pan. Bake at 450° for 15 minutes or until browned on both sides (might need to use a lower rack in the oven to brown the bottom). Add sauce and cheese and favorite toppings and bake at 450° for 12 minutes or until done.

It always astounds me that people want to loose weight, without any effort? I'm not necessarily talking about the fine ladies on this board, and I commend you for your efforts and resiliency...but,
ask yourself...How did I get this way to begin with?
Whatever you did, stop it.
There is no secret formula...reduce you calorie intake (especially carbs and sweets) and ramp up your physical activity.
In five or six weeks you will see and feel the difference.

I went and had a free health assessment today put on by my insurance company that was part of a local health fair. Strongly encouraged by my employer as they get a break on their premiums if 100% of the staff participates. I'm actually a couple of pounds heavier than I was last year. But, on the plus side, the rest of my stats were improved over last year...blood pressure, cholesterols, blood sugar, etc. They were within acceptable ranges last year, but I have a little more breathing room now. Go green leafy vegetables, they do a body good.

Pat, my MIL cut her cholesterol down enough that she didnt have to take meds. She just cut out sugar from her diet. Her doc said it was the best move she could have made. She's tiny too, maybe 130, so its not like she was overweight. They eat a lot of paleo meals too, because FIL is trying to lose weight.

I had a real good weekend. Put on over 20K steps a day and got a lot of repair projects done around the house. Not that that helped with the fitness directly, but when I'm on the go from morning to night I'm not doing what I would be otherwise, which is sitting on the couch with my laptop fighting off the urge to snack. As it was I had to remind myself I needed to eat.
I was able to walk both lakes both days. Saturday younger son was with his Dad and Sunday I put him in a trailer behind older son's bike and they had a blast on their own while I walked. They would get way ahead and stop in a park for awhile and wait up for me. Normally, it's really hard for me to walk with younger son because he can't bike yet and is too big for a stroller.

this weekend wasn't that great as far as being healthy went. my weight this am was in the deadband range where I've been hovering, but I feel like it's going to go up once it all settles out. that's not good. oh well, gotta pay the piper I guess. as far as breaking up the "eating like an asshole" rut - last night, I roasted a spaghetti squash to do up a squash pie tonight. that will be good for healthy meals this week. I also browned up 1lb of ground turkey and cooked a box of l/s Zatarain's dirty rice. broke it up into about 1c portions, those will be lunches w/a green salad. today I have some cut up fruit instead of salad, b/c I was running very late leaving the house and that was already packed up haha. tonight, I won't get home until much later than normal. I turned my alarm off in my sleep and woke up 2h later - when I would normally be walking into the office. so I seriously just got here now, and will end up staying until at least 430 (or as long as I can stand it....) and then suffer in traffic to get home. it's chilly and gross here today, expected to be that way all week. as long as it's not raining, I might bundle up and go for a walk. the pup's still on limited mobility orders from being spayed late last week, so I won't take her with me. I guess I'll see how I feel when I get home.

Since most of us first found these boards because we were interested in personal finance, maybe it would be helpful to some of us to think of getting healthier in a similar way to how we think of managing our money. We all know that a person with bad financial habits has to consistently make better choices to see results in the overall picture. They can't say "I just spent another $100 on another frivolous item even though I know I'm suppose to be getting my spending under control" every day, just like they've always done, and get into better financial shape. I don't think it's much different with getting into better physical shape. The bottom line with both is that you have to start by consciously and consistently making choices all day, every day, that aren't necessarily the most convenient or enjoyable. Some people don't "get" why people struggle with one, some people don't "get" why people struggle with the other. Some of us have or do struggle with both. Whichever one a person is struggling with, at some point we have to either stop making excuses and just do it, or admit that we don't really want the results as much as we claim we do. My apologies if this post ruins what's suppose to be the tone of this thread, but I think the tone is a bit different anyway.

I definitely see the connection. Attempting to put moderation in my life can certainly be improved IF I want it to be. I must say, YNAB has been a real eye opener for both DH and me, and has caused to only spend what is in the budgeted line item category. Right now, groceries has $1.60 left in it until May 1st. All of what we bought yesterday likely won't be eaten until May, but we at least are not going over. There is still $176 dollars left in the gasoline category. And contrary to the YNAB solutions, we agree that we can't transfer gasoline money into any other category. When a category is empty, the spending stops.
If I can transfer that discipline into what I eat, it's a win/win for me. Thanks for posting Chiv, it makes a lot of sense. And having moderation in my life about anything normally doesn't happen.

Look at the research on cholesterol. Eating good forms of it (eggs, good oils, nuts) won't negatively impact your blood cholesterol levels. I will eat 5-6 eggs in a day sometimes. The fats and proteins are really good for you. Oatmeal could be hurting you since the carbs are processed like sugar by your body. The fiber helps blunt some of that insulin spike, but you need to add in a form of protein. Make yourself 2-3 eggs for breakfast instead Eat them with some cheese, and bacon. For for high protein, low carbs.

Just like eating Fats doesn't make you FAT, eating cholesterol in your food doesn't make your cholesterol go up.

I'm staying pretty disciplined on food. Last 2 weeks from 177 to 173 so not complaining, was stuck on 177 for what 2 months?
I am not a fan of oatmeal and don't know if I can continue this for the 2 months for my next blood work. I do not want to take statins, they are controversial and some of the side effects are really bad. I don't usually resist meds but I am those.
I had an apple last night as did DD so that's another item I need to eat to lower cholesterol. I love eggs but one has almost all the cholesterol you are allowed for a day and I usually have 1 or 2 a day for breakfast, bummer.
So now 13 pounds to get to 160, maybe I will get there. When they put my husband on a cholesterol diet. I started to get a lot of recipes off of the American Heart Association website. You might get some ideas. www.heart.org/HEARTORG/GettingHealthy/NutritionCenter/Recipes/Recipe-Collections_UCM_465115_Collection.jsp?cid=1001

Does Cheerios really work? That's all my older son will eat for breakfast so we always have tons of it. When I had my blood work done last year cholesterol was a little high. Not enough that they said anything. But it looked high to me. Please someone interpret these numbers for me!

minnesotapaintlady: 201 is just barely high. When my total Cholesterol was 203, the doc wasn't worried, and told me the best thing I could do to lower it was exercise more and really pay attention to my diet. He also said that if I'd had ANYTHING to drink besides water that morning, it could cause it to be slightly elevated (I'd had a diet coke on the way in). He also said that the "high" number had been higher in years past and the recommendation for what equaled high cholesterol used to be 210, then 205, now 200. So at 203 he wasn't worried but he did say that if I couldn't get it below 200 consistently over the next couple years, we'd have to talk about statins.
I have a family history of high cholesterol so I get that checked yearly. Both my parents are on statins, and both their parents had high cholesterol. So I work really hard to keep it down. Last year it was 176, which I'm good with.
I've also read that something like 95% of your cholesterol number comes from family history!! That's an enormous amount. So, sometimes, there's not much you can. For comparison, my DH's cholesterol is 101-and he eats worse than I do and exercises less. It's SOOOOO unfair! LOL
