Ford and GM products would be a problem also then (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/national/daily/nov98/nazicars30.htm). I would think the the whole Axis thing would rule out Japanese models as well.So what could she drive? Your link doesn't link ... Fixed I think.

Yes, I understand that the symbol is still offensive to many not just to those of Jewish descent. Problem is how come that became "news" as in being publicized? Is just paper: offends you-complain-have it removed- done deal, get on with your life! But no! News is better! Like someone already said here: learn from the past and don't dwell on it.
Beth: there is a chance that there might have been some workers in the Mercedes plants during WWII that were Jewish, however not as many as claimed or thought. Natzis didn't realy care, if you were not blonde/blue eyed, you were inferior therefore there to serve them! Simple as that. There were in the internment in Aushwitz, Birkennau, Dachau and all the others, many of other nations: polish, chec, Bulgarians, Serbians, Slovenians, Romanians and from all over Europe-gypsies.

Except - it's a backwards swastika (from the one she's thinking about) and is actually another religious symbol when shown the way it is. But really, it's just an intersection of a geometric design and looks nothing like swastikas. Someone just wanted to fuss. Swastika is the sacred symbol for Hindus. They use it everywhere, on religious books, on texts, on relgious clothing, in the temples, during prayer. Should the Hindus now be offended that their sacred symbol is being maligned? I am angry because Nazis used it for a evil reason. But how do people feel about it today is not my business.

I think Mercedes-Benz used Jewish laborers to build things during WWII, kind of a slave labor force. And reparations were not made or were inadequately made. Ford and GM products would be a problem also then ( Ford and GM Scrutinized for Alleged Nazi Collaboration). I would think the the whole Axis thing would rule out Japanese models as well.So what could she drive? Bicycle, bicycle, bicycle. I wanna ride my bicycle, i wanna ride my bike But all joking aside, slave labor was not just limited to Jewish people. Especially later in the war when the Germans rounded up a lot of young men and women in the occupied areas (my dad was picked up twice and my mom once ---they both took off the first chance they had. The last time together -> DB1 ). At that time Jewish people were being murdered rather than forced to work in factories.

Is there really a Hanukkah paper section in areas with a large Jewish population?
Yes, yes there is. You must not live in a place with many Jews. The occasional bigoted person dares to complain out loud that Jews "run" my town. Some of our smaller regional school districts even have pupil-free days for High Holy Days. Wow, can you imagine that? Closing school for a religious holiday?? (sarcasm, for anyone who missed it)

No - If there are currently any Jews in my small town, I am not aware of them. (There used to be a couple of fairly well-known Jewish families, but they moved away - they owned retail stores many years ago.) I live in small town Indiana. I don't think there are any synagogues in my entire county.

It's backwards- so unless looking in a mirror seems unintentional.
I think someone has to be on the lookout for offensive things to find offense in this one- at they least the get the benefit of the doubt. Not to mention the huge type of dick it would take to do this on purpose- and a real dick would have made it face the correct way. Then again plenty of stupid people with power so it is possible they meant to do it and did it wrong.
Kind of like the cartoonists that insert genitalia in mainstream films as an inside joke till some internet weenies find them

The prongs point clockwise on the Nazi swastika. The one on the opposing side of the "column" is a mirror image, hence a "swastika" is visible either way. I would be extremely surprised if it was intentional. Several bloggers have pointed out that this is a common design.

And if I have to look this hard to find offense then come on.....
And while typing this I see it now- that's a huge stretch and not buying it. You are right the column could be split and it mirrors itself- so in that case only the right half is Nazi- figures The left was innocent.

I doubt even the woman who complained about it believed it was intentional. But people don't tend to care if symbols they find offensive are intentional or not.

Here is Hindu symbol for Lord Vishnu also it means good fortune and auspiciousness. If it is turned left way it is symbol for goddess Kali devi but it is not often to see it so.

Really? Someone's going to pick out a tiny portion of the wrapping paper's geometric pattern & and designate it as a swastika?
Someone's over-analyzing and trying to blow up something out of nothing.

Wisconsin Beth, sorry your selection is so limited. We've got a wide assortment in all colors mroped, a lot of them live in this area. So sad to see the numbers stamped on their arms from concentration camps swasat, if you don't understand that anti-Semitism still exist, then you must not have been to Berkeley lately (Dad was fired for being Jewish, he wanted to take Yom Kippur off as a vacation day but his boss disagreed)

I've seen numbers tattooed on forearms in all Eastern European countries and with the exception of a couple of them, the majority were not Jewish. They ended up in there because someone in their Comunity didn't like them. Not that it justifies any of it! i know that the hate and anger and the intent of complete extermination was directed towards Jewish as a people but in the process many other suffered as collateral damage.

Wait and see that those toys are "made in China". Still doesn't mean is right. Thing is that we have to get on with our lives and stop picking on anything and everything. things like this are rare and most of the time unintended-the paper I mean- and all outrage for things that belong in the past resurface.
