Is your DH afraid that the bosses will think he doesn't need the money, thus lower raises in the future?

I agree with bluerobin. This could have unintended consequences. If these folks tease you about it, they aren't teasing. I am sorry, but what kind of world do some of you live in that you have "unintended consequences" of wearing nice jewelry to a Christmas party? Do people in the corporate world seriously think and behave this way?

Oh, and my vote is to wear it. Of course, I don't play office politics, so I may not be the best person to ask.

It happens very frequently in the NFP sector as well. I have been in discussions where it's been said so and so needed a bigger raise because they just had a baby as opposed to mr x not needing as much because he's driving a new car so must be doing ok.

I can't imagine a company where raises are decided based on how much someone does or doesn't need the money.

"I can't imagine a company where raises are decided based on how much someone does or doesn't need the money."
The most open example I ever heard was a boss telling me that he was working on getting "Dan" more money until he found out how much "Dan's" wife made and then he figured he didn't need to worry about Dan anymore.

It can and does happen. But wear it and comment a lot on how it's inherited and you never go anywhere to wear it and you're so happy to be honoring deceased relatives.

If someone commented on the jewelry, I'd hope they would have the tact to just say what a lovely piece it is, etc. I don't think it's anyone's business what it might or might not be worth, or if it's real or fake.
If someone said to me, nice ring or nice pendant, I'd just reply "Thank you - I'm blessed to have it. It was one of my Mawmaw's favorite pieces."
I have a couple of nice "fake" diamonds - and those rings look every bit as lovely (and real) as my actual diamond set.
