There's still another egg yet to hatch. We now have to chicks in the nest. 2nd egg hatched this afternoon, ahead of schedule. Both eagles have brought fish to the nest and have fed the older eaglet already. Harriet had called Ozzie to the nest, and they talked. I believe she was actually communicating that the 2nd egg was about to hatch. She got off the nest, flew off, and left Ozzie staring at the nest. You could actually see the 2nd egg cracked, and the crack enlarging.

If anyone clicks on a video and then click on the icon to right of youtube, you will go full screen, and see the nest with the fish and eaglets up close and personal. Beautiful! Nature at it's finest! These Eaglets are fed raw food. The mother does not regurgitate the food. It is a beautiful and delicate procedure

So fun to watch this family. Those babies are a wild little pair! In case you missed it: I guess mama eagle was having some balancing issues before the babies hatched. Then she seemed to be doing ok. She was seen picking at something on her wing on the cam and they were guessing maybe fish line and hopefully with no fish hook. The thing on her wing was seen on the cam again today hanging from her wing. It looks like a pc. of string but can't tell if it's fish line. She is still flying well, hunting and feeding babies. I'm sometimes afraid to turn it on afraid something bad will happen to one of them, but so far so good. Don't be a litter bug!

I didn't see anything on her wing that appeared to be fishing line. It could have been a small twig or branch from the nest - she was sitting on the nest/moving around to keep the chicks warm/feed them - it's inevitable something from the nest would get caught up in her feathers.

I try to stay away from the message board shown there. People keep asking who is on the nest, when it clearly states who is on the nest, when they were fed, etc,etc,etc...always asking questions that were just asked and answered......... Sounds like some of the threads on proboards......
They have speculated for days it is a fishing line, but I agree, it is too thick for that. It seemed to be gone the other day. Most likely some string, but thankfully it does not interfere with her flying. It is amazing how big the eaglets are already, and they always seem ready for some over ripe fish. Both eagles are very observant to the chicks and the little bobbleheads are cute, and are doubled in size in a couple of days. Sometimes the site posts other bird camera sites from all over the world to watch. I went to one and it was over run with ads, and too hard to watch. Thankfully, this one is all about the eagles. I always loved Eagles, who doesn't) but looking at some of the video footage, and picture album available, these two birds are magnificent.

There was clearly a string of some sort stuck on her wing on a video they posted yesterday. The good thing is it doesn't seem to be bothering her anymore.

I never thought I would be able to see this as close as this one. It's great. So gentle with those huge feet and so patient when feeding those little eagles. I don't follow the chat to much but have found the mods pretty informative when I have.

I like the little "dots" in the upper left of the video are actually people with (probably) binoculars watching the bird. You would think they would get a better view by watching the birds on their electronic device like we are.

This is a horse or cow pasture on busy Bayshore road. Obviously this pair is not too nervous about people or auto and truck traffic around them. I imagine all they see is the eagle when they get off the nest and see their heads, but do not see the eaglets. The eagles do stay on guard on a limb above the nest, so observers do get a great view of the mate not on the nest, plus you get the take offs and landings of the pair, which has to be beautiful

If I was in the area though I might want to check it out just to see in rl the size of that nest. I have been watching our eagle pair this morning going up and down the river. The wing span is incredible on the larger one. I always thought that was the male but maybe not as the female is the larger one on this Fla. nest. They have a favorite tree a few hundred yards from our yard that they love to hang out in. It is right where the creek runs into the river so maybe be a good fishing spot for them. I wish they would build a nest in that tree. Somehow I have got to get a better picture of them this winter.

I have no doubt I would be below where those other people are watching too. I know I get the best view by watching the camcorders, but I too would want to see the adults (and in time the X eaglets too) live and flying to and from the nest.

Nest looks like a graveyard. Where I used to work a pair of foxes dug a den under the adjoining building corner next to ours. About 12 feet separated the two buildings and the glass windows were reflective so those outside could not see in. We watched the foxes up close raise their young, the kits playing outside the den, and the grounds around the entrance to the den clearly looked like a bone and feather yard.

Just watching the nest and the two eaglets were stirring and then one parent flew in and started feeding them. Then the second parent flew in and now both parents are feeding the eaglets. RIP Mr/Ms Squirrel.

RIP Mr/Ms Squirrel. Darn, I missed that one. Watching Arizona get crushed by Carolina. I guess they were all tired of the fish and wanted a change of menu

If anyone has not checked in lately, the Eaglets are getting to be a wing full. They climb out from underneath the parent when they feel like it, crawl around the nest, try to make an escape from the nest, but get tired before reaching the twig/branch portion of the nest. It is hard to believe how large they have gotten. They are only about ten days old, so it's almost another 70 days before first flight.

The Eaglets are really getting active. The parents, now do leave them alone in the nest at times. The Eaglets already weigh about two lbs, and are 8 to 10 inches tall. Watching the video feed, one would not know they are that large, probably, more to do with the size of the nest be as large as it is. The eggs were the size of a tennis ball, so that does give you an idea how large these birds are. The first week or so, food was all fish. They have been bringing back some red meat lately. They finished off a possum yesterday, or at least that was the consensus of the viewers..... It was one tough piece of meat. Even the parents had problems tearing pieces off As the babies get larger, you notice the parents give much larger chunks to gobble down.
Yesterday the message board was discussing Eagle nests. One nest (not this one) was nine feet across, and weighed in at two tons.
Anyone interested, go back to post one for the address.

Today was a hard day to watch the Eaglets E5 is one day older than E6 E5 has established the pecking order (literally) in the nest, who gets fed first, and the most. The parents do not interfere in sibling rivalry. They let them fight it out. This afternoon e5 was attacking e6 with it's beak, pecking away. There is not much "bonking" going on. These eaglets are large, about a foot in length, and the beaks and talons grow faster than the body right now. I imagine e5 is getting some heavy bruising from it's sibling's beak. There were times when e5 would wake up and literally start pecking at e6 as it slept. My wife and I had to leave the site twice today, as it was hard to watch. The moderators of the board say this is common, and e6 is showing signs of accomodation of the pecking order by lying down, and not showing aggression back to e5. Today the meal was a small raccoon, plus some fresh fish. E6 was not fed til late this afternoon, early evening, while e6 had ate several times today. Moderators say if e6 gets fed well one day, they can be ok for a couple of days, as they not only eat, but store some food in their crop for future consumption.

I guess it's lucky I haven't had much time to watch them this week. I hope he struggles thru and survives the abuse somehow. I'm afraid to go look now and think I will wait until tomorrow.

It is with a very heavy heart tonight that I must tell you E5 has died tonight. Two days ago he was active, and very aggressive with his sibling, E6. He ate twice the other day, and it is unknown why the healthy bird fell into ill health. Everyone worried it would kill it's younger sibling. Yesterday it became lethargic, and today did not eat. The eaglet did raise it's head and look around quite a bit today, but died this evening. Harriet is currently lying next to it on the nest.

Harriet has been sitting/lying next to E5 for quite awhile. She is basically motionless, with her back to the camera.
