Remember this... for when one attacks a gay/bi person, a transgender person, or someone born a hermaphrodite, you are attacking someone's child, a brother or sister, a mom or dad, a soldier, a firefighter, a doctor, a teacher, or someone's best friend.
So why does one feel the need to attack an innocent individual that only wants to love and be loved.?
Remember this... Would you like it if someone attacked you or your loved ones?
Just remember, we are all born different, and that is what makes the world a rainbow of beautiful people filled with love.
Lets end the hate in America once and for all.

People do not choose to be the victim, they are brutally victimized over and over and time and time again. Black people were locked into slavery and fought for their freedom. Women had to fight for their rights and freedoms, the disabled had to do the same as well, and now the gay people have had their fill with all this religious hate and bigotry that is taught and bred within their churches. Did the Jews that were massacred and slaughtered by Hitler choose to be the victim? No! Do children choose to be beaten or raped? No! So you might want to rethink your comment that "You're only a victim if you choose to be" because that is not always the case.

What gays an bis are special? step up take it! Israel isn't looking to bad right now . I thought you were talking about the future not the past. History does repeat itself. you didn't mention women children and rape , so those monsters were not in your utopia.

You just don't care one way or the other? You just finished saying there's prejudice against your daughter because of her disability.
I also have a disability (physical) but haven't felt persecuted, treated poorly or hated. (Then again, I live in much more peaceful and accepting Canada).
I think that damnotagain is still missing the point that Maya is trying to make.
I get it - The blacks (and other races) have been persecuted or hated for various ridiculous reasons - no matter their race or religion.
Certain religions are faced with hate or persecution.
There's far too much bigotry and prejudice in this world and it affects all of us.
The Gay/Lesbian/Trans-gender population are still today fighting against being victims of hate-crime - or not being accepted for being born the way they are.
As far as I'm concerned, we're ALL born human beings. You have the right to separate yourself from those you dislike or don't want to associate with in your private life - but equal rights based on race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or sexual preference have come a long way and most work places will not tolerate bias or prejudice of any kind.
Even the military are victims of hate. Look how many Military Funerals or LGBT parades/marches have been disrupted or had a disturbance occur - due to the protesters (usually from some radical offshoot "church" which promotes & preaches hatred).
But not far enough. There's still far too much hate in all walks of life..

When any of the mentioned classes of people in this thread stood or stand up to 'fight' or counter the hatred and dislike expressed against them, the haters and dislikers counter with 'You demand tolerance from everyone for you but where is your tolerance for us and our opinions."
I recommend more information for the dislikers and we don't tolerate the intolerant and their bigotry.

People are still bigoted, never going to change that for all. It's better but not because people really think differently its just because they have learned to say nothing. I have a disabled daughter and if you think they are well accepted, well you should try taking her with you some time.
As far as gays and all the different permutations of it, it doesn't bother me one way or another. They want to do or be that do it I don't care that is their life but don't make it look like half the population is like that when its just a small percentage. I don't want to live that way but I don't care if you do or whomever but don't try to make me say glowing things about it.
I don't hate any of the above mostly I just don't care one way or another, to many other things in the world to worry about. Wait....what? You don't care? I guess you don't care that your disabled daughter isn't treated well by others? Or are you saying that I shouldn't care how she's treated, because after all, "half the population isn't like that, it's only a small percentage". If anything, people who are fighting any kind of discrimination should be more sensitive to the plight of others.

Perceiving people who have a let's say, non-standard self sexual perception, or a non-standard birth form, and claim that they're "innocent individuals" is an error. They will have the same failings as humans, at the same percentage rate as the general populace. Proposing that they are somehow "better" just puts the perceived "normals" in the same position as you wish the "specials" not to be. It's not hate in itself that causes the friction, but more a blend of natural aversion plus lack of education. Whether we like it or not, people are born with instinctive behavior. Edit; please don't take this post as a sign that I condone violence towards anyone, I don't.

Pats, I agree we still have too many bigoted people in this world. But the definition of bigotry is a hateful intolerance toward a person of a certain race, religion, belief (and yes, sometimes a disability).
Are you saying people are hateful and intolerant toward your daughter? It's more likely that any of the people you call bigoted probably don't understand her condition, and may also be very lacking in compassion - but that isn't bigotry - it's ignorance on their part.

I'll help you out here. Not all "church people" hate gays and not all people who hate gays are "church people". You think for one second that those people who are intolerant of alternative life styles are all religious people? If you do, you are showing your ignorance and bigotry.
It's rather difficult to wage a war on ignorance and bigotry when you are one of the offenders.

All this hate and bigotry toward gay people is religious based, preached and taught to their followers. That is fact. As long as this hate and bigotry is taught through religion to their followers, then the cycle of hate toward gay people continues. Look at the preacher that have been ob TV preaching against the LGBT people, spewing all their hate and venom toward them. This is why church and religions are slowly losing their religion as people begin to leave it due to the venom that spews from their mouths.
LGBT people are entitled to equal rights just like anyone else in America.
Equal rights for "ALL" people, not just those that are religious that think it's their way or everyone else is going to burn in hell forever.
No need to live in fear from the religious hate mongers, because that is not what god was all about. And the bible they preach from was written by man, not god.

.
Sorry, maya - but you're wrong there. Not ALL hate and bigotry against gays is preached by churches and taught to their followers.
MOST churches don't condone or preach hatred toward anyone.
People learn hatred, or become hateful/bigoted people many other ways - from their parents, or friends, or, hanging out with their peers, joining organizations that promote hatred (The Aryan Nations or KKK ring a bell for you?)
A few "offshoot" churches started up and founded by radicals and (places like the Westboro "Baptist Church" for example) promote hatred and bigotry. Organized religion as a whole, dating back centuries does not.
If you can cite sources/links that can back up your claim that it's ALL religious-based, I'll look at them. Good luck finding any though.
I think that hatred and bigotry is ingrained into many people more by the ways I listed, than by the Church. (Real church - not some start-up hate group calling themselves a "church").

I'll engage long enough to tell you that you are completely full of shit and a huge part of the problem. Bigotry, intolerance, hate and ignorance are ugly things. Hypocrisy is just as ugly.

Hate and bigotry are because fear and arrogance. And there is much fear and arrogance in Angry Atheists and religion haters as in religious people.

Don't even get me started on TV "Preachers", maya. They're on TV bleeding the gullible out of their money and life-savings, promising cures for illness and a wealth of money coming their way if only they spend a few of their hard earned dollars on their "Miracle Water".
Or they "lay their hands" on someone in a wheelchair and that person is suddenly able to walk. Or their miracle magic potion cured some person with terminal cancer. All those testimonials from the "saved" are just part of the side-show "schick". Fakes and employees of the "preacher", planted in the audience.
They're charlatans. Once the broadcast is over, those "preachers" go home to their million dollar mansions to count out their daily take that they were able to steal from the pockets of the gullible.
They're no better than snake-oil salesmen hiding under the disguises of a "church".

If you assume about all religious people because 0.000002% who are tv preachers why its not bigotry? All religions "ALL" taught and seeded the ignorance of hate towards many groups of people. Women that they believe to be slaves and subservient to their husbands. The disabled, as they believe/d to be inflicted with god's curse because the parents committed a sinful act and is now taking it out upon the child. Gay men and women have always been a target of religions and religious people. Religions cry that the world is going to come to an end if "they" do not put a stop to the gay people living together or marrying. I too care of a gay couple that met when they were 15 years of age. One man died when he was 92 years of age, and the world did not come to an end. My sister that was gay passed away when she was in her late 60's, and the world never came to an end. Religions is what breeds this hate and ugliness in the world, because everyone that have a thing against gay people are always quoting from the bible and what they have been brainwashed into believing is right or wrong. My mom took us all out of church when I was a child. She didn't like all this hate, bigotry, ugliness, and prejudices that is being taught within the church, and then telling her that she needed to be a slave to her husband and obey him at all times. Religion has always been a basis for all the hate in the world I believe, because reading many lengthy articles, watching videos and comments that comes from the mouths of these charlatans need be be stopped. If any church or religion teaches and preaches hate, bigotry, racism, prejudices, and discrimination against anyone based on their gender is not a church pf god. It is imo nothing more than a hate group disguised as a church of god. Equal rights for 'all' people, and don't ever use religion as a means to say otherwise. I live my life, gay people live their lives, and church people can live in ignorance all they want to, because when it comes down to it, all religious people run to doctors and science for their healings and cures, and then claim that their god saved them, which we all know is a lie, and if I am not mistaken; one of the ten commandments is "Thou shalt not lie" and yet they do is all so often and religiously.

Alyssa said, "All religions "ALL" taught and seeded the ignorance of hate towards many groups of people." That may be true at one time or another in history and still holds true in some sects within most religions, including Christianity. But many branches within the Christian religion (for example) are opening their arms in welcoming gays (again, for example) and happily performing same sex religious ceremonies/marriages where legal. There will always be groups within any religion who espouse ignorance, bigotry and intolerance for one class of people or another. But at least within the Americas, western Europe and the major countries of Oceania, these sects are becoming fewer and fewer as they evolve after becoming better informed, calm exposure to the class of people in question, and lastly, taking the time for self-reflection. Change for the good takes time. Some may never change and that is their loss. There are even non-believers who dislike and discriminate against one or more classes of people. So keep that in mind too.

I didn't say its so for all atheists only Angry Atheists and religion haters. It still is not true. "Angry Atheists and religion haters" and members of the Westboro Baptist Church (and others like them within Christianity and other religions for example) are more than equal in the hate department.

Well said, Tennesseer. Much classier than my "full of shit" comment, which I now regret since I'm not pissed off anymore. I don't regret it enough to apologize yet, but it still wasn't a nice thing to say.

Unfortunately, there is no shortage of ignorance world-wide. Somewhere, there are someones who hate just about everything. It's sad and I feel sorry for such people. As long as a person is decent and honorable and respects others who are the same, regardless of belief, I think that person is A-okay.

I thought historically, there'd been more wars fought over the taking over of land or countries, nations trying to steal/acquire the riches or commodities of other nations, overthrowing kingdoms or governments, etc.

It is true. Except Angry Atheists thought if they say Mostly Wars Are Because Religion! one billion times/year its gonna make it be true.

There are some rare exceptions... but in most cases it's a belief in the ruler's "God given right to expand his/her territory" (ergo, religion... even though it's ego-driven religion, it's religion none the less) that caused the wars.

Myth is OK if you thought it will prove your agenda.
