So the family came to get her things and picked through it and left what they didn't want?
Classless but you already know that.

I should probably start updating earlier, so I make the cut for the smileys updates more often. lol... the one balance I'm still racing, the payment posts on the 28th of each month. in searching for my most recent post to grab my tagline, it looks like I never bothered to update last month. oops! anyway, I'm still chugging along on this. my minimum payment is $200-something/mo but when I dropped to just this one card for the race, I upped my regular payment to $500/mo. this will be knocked out for good in 2024. hell, if the card sends me another promo for the life of the balance, I'll pay it off from savings and then consolidate the projects onto that so I can build up more liquid savings. but, I digress. chiver78 12/5/23 $8223.32 (5/9/20 $138,495.31)

Snicker, snicker...
My electric bill for November was $112.97. With the remaining credit I had paid, the balance I have to pay is: $29.40.
My water bill is still in credit of nearly $200, at $65/mo, I won't have a bill until March.
Glad to see things working, chiver78 , and YAY for the drop, Rukh O'Rorke !

lol, so my paycheck was less than usual not more! My FSA contribut went up above the usual so seems the lower FSA amount last time was an error and making up for it this time. I guess not going to get a break on FICA at all this year.....or not much! I think health insurance and FSA/HSA are pre-fica taxes, so that would mean I won't get to the end of it, and then may owe some more when I file taxes and figure out my RI income taxes.
Waiting on one piece of info to finalize deliverables for my RI projects and then will bill. If I dont't get paid by Jan 1st - which it won't be due until 30 days after deliverables sent so likely due after 1/10 or so - I'll need some more money out of savings or go into more debt somewhere.

No, no, no, no more debt, it hurts to use savings, but you gotta! And yes, here I am, I have things paid down because I took cash money out of my retirement, but you know what? I didn't borrow anything more! I'll work an extra 18 months to re-fill that retirement, but I did not borrow another cent! You're trying to keep the debt at bay! You just got down below $100K! Stay steady!
You're OK.

The universe rewarded me today. I found $100 bill in the Best Buy parking lot. Since my bank was nearby, I stopped by there to confirm it was real. It WAS!! So then I went by Lowe's and treated myself to a small Christmas decoration. It's pretty without being all Santa-y or full-on Christmas-y. Lighted peacock And it was marked down 50% from $89. Add in my military discount and the tax was covered.

Well, I'm ticked off, and I am trying to fix this, now (yet another grumble about the raccoon) - the car I helped her get last year, which she totaled (really, it was not her fault), the gap insurance was supposed to step in and pay the difference between the value of the vehicle and the balance on the loan. This is what Gap Insurance is for. Period. This is why you buy it, this is what they do. Well, this insurer asked for a dozen different documents which were provided. Twice. By her, first, and then by me. And they hemmed and hawed and tried to say we didn't send them something, so we'd send it again. And the lender went to them, and I went to them. And the lender went to them again. And I went to them again. And they kept putting off paying the balance - it's now about $2400 outstanding. Yes: now. I had last spoken with the lender in August, I was assured it was all taken care of (before the raccoon even moved out), and life goes on.
Yesterday afternoon - yes-ter-day - I got a call from the lender asking me if I had plans to pay the balance due. And I'm wondering if it's something like Citibank or BofA with their little add-on interest fees when I paid them off, something like $50 or even $100. Only - it's the whole $2400. Plus added on interest since August.
And......... WHY did they wait until December to come to me about this? I was told in August, and four months later, they're screeching at me? Why didn't someone write to me? Call me? Send me smoke signals? So I asked for the person who I've been talking with all along, and she is out on maternity leave, so this person who called I guess stepped in, and this person seems not to know anything, but she was really snotty with me, like I did something wrong. And I asked her why the Gap payment hasn't been made, and she says the Gap Insurer voided the contract! Uh... they did WHAT? She basically told me it was my problem and they'll be sending a collection agency to me if I don't start making regular payments, and I'm going WHAT?
I called the Gap Insurer, but got no response. I did get the voicemail inbox, I wasn't polite. And I'm sitting here seething. I will get this fixed, but of course I'm in the office today and cannot be profane inside these walls. Well, I could be, but it's not advisable. Tomorrow I work from home. And I did call my attorney at lunch today, and I said there might be a legal issue we have to address. Have I got the money? Sure. I'm just really infuriated right now.

They're probably gonna say they sent you paperwork. Only they probably sent it to D and, since it wasn't addressed to you, you didn't see it or open it. That is some BULLSHIT though. FUCKITY FUCK FUCK!!

Okie-dokie:
Discover 17,186.75 450.00 25.74% 17,109.36 Target 8,901.05 8,901.05 27.15% 0.00 Lowe’s 15,247.06 8,000.00 26.99% 7,811.13 Trumark 16,900.00 463.79 7.99% 16,600.00 58,234.86 17,814.84 41,520.49 lark1964 [2]: 12/18/2023 $41520.49 (4/13/2023 $80,738.38 C290)
And... I am being stonewalled by the lender about the car balance, too, of all things. I suspect they want to pass it off to a collection agency and forget about it. Doesn't thrill me. I have to get details to my attorney so he can chase down the insurance. I have already told him, yes, I have the money, but right now, this is about principle, so I'm more than happy to spend $2,500 on my attorney slamming the insurance folks down.
*sigh*
And a grumble for good measure.

I know myself well enough that I would be using an attorney because of the principle of this, too.

Hello ladies! I am still alive. As I said in the decluttering thread, I blinked and 2023 was ending. Things have been crazy financially for us this year. I plan to jump back into racing in January- the last few months have just been survival mode for us as far as budgeting and money goes. A big shake-up was me having to get a new car. My Acadia was paid off and the plan was to drive the wheels off of it (or at least get 2 more years out of it). Well, we had to drive from Central Indiana to Sarasota for my son's travel baseball tournament at the end of June. We made it about an hour south of Atlanta and the Acadia died. We were stranded- we being me, my husband, our two boys, my niece, AND our dog. THANKFULLY, we were close to an exit and were able to get off the interstate in the middle of nowhere. There was a service center there- 30 minutes from closing. They weren't going to be able to help us that day but the service manager took pity on us and GAVE US a rental SUV to get us on our way to the tournament. I cried a lot of tears that day, there are still good people in the world. They had to replace the alternator and a few other things, which allowed us to at least get back home. A Band-Aid of sorts. We decided we weren't going to any more money into it (it cost us $3,000 in Georgia). So in July, we purchased a Chrysler Pacifica. More than I wanted to spend, a car payment I wasn't anticipating having again, but a vehicle that's safe and should get both of our kids to 18. (fingers crossed). I am going to skim back and try and catch up on everyone's progress today! I have missed you all!

MuffyintheRed #2 12/23/2023 156592.89 (06/22/2020 $175.394.16)
Amount paid -$-1,043.39
CU Savings - $25,678.29
This was a good month! Paid for almost all presents with Amazon giftcards. Next month my Best Buy will go up because they had a BT that I put our dental insurance on for the year. It will be paid off before it expires and I will have not paid any interest, just a one time fee that compares much better than interest every month.
I hope everyone has a healthy, happy holiday season and lets make next year a year of big debt reductions. Merry Christmas everyone!!!

We had a 0% BT card expiring next month that we haven't knocked out yet. Thankfully we got another BT offer for 0% so we moved that balance and bought ourselves another year. I am going to take any help we can get right now lol.
Also- opinions wanted. H will be bringing home approx. $12,000 from a side hustle within the next month. We are discussing the best way to use this. We have a couple ideas:
1. Pay off his truck balance- currently $8,624.50 with a 4.25% APR (payment is $382 a month). Use remaining money to bump savings/pay towards smaller balances.
2. Pay off a BIG majority of our Discover card- currently $15,124.49 with a 25.99% APR (minimum payment is right around $400 a month).
He's leaning towards option 1, I on the other hand am leaning toward option 2 because the interest is killing our progress. If it was YOU- which would you choose?

Gotta follow the math and knock off most of the larger interest rate balance. Plus being so close to paying it off completely should light a fire to throw every extra cent at it .

That's very much where my mindset is. Yep. Definitely the high interest. Wow, great little EOY gift from the side hustle! Or maybe - chip away at $11K on Discover, but hold out a $1K for a celebration? You deserve one, doncha?
Meanwhile, I've decided to hack up a CD, instead of renewing for 3.15% interest (gad, they really aren't great, anymore, are they?), I'm going to throw it at my Lowe's account, I think ~$6K (it will be something like $6,005 total) will make a nice hole in that 26.99% interest balance! Maybe I'll figure out a way to chop up the last $1500+ in the next month!

When mine came due the only ones I could find were at about 5% for 9 months. I think the banks must think the interest rates are going down.
Mine that renewed was making barely over 1% and I did know it was staying in that.

Just spent a little over a week and my dad and stepmom's house in NV. It was definitely not as relaxing as in years past. Dad's dementia is quite bad. I got there Tuesday. Wednesday morning, while stepmom was at an appt, he must have asked me a dozen times, "When did you get here?" "Yesterday, Dad." "Where was I?" "You drove the car, Dad." I changed the subject by asking him why he joined the Army. That kept him engaged for quite some time since he spent a few decades serving. But, almost every day, he didn't know who his wife was. They've been married for 20+ years. I would have to greet him with my distinctive "Good morning, Daddy-O!" and get him reoriented to date and time. I'll have to do it via phone call now that I'm home.
On the money front, I successfully spent none except to pay for a lunch out with my brother, SIL, and niece.
In another facet of the money front, I've sold a few things online and will be resuming that next week. So far, it's netted me just over $300.
