Race 2 Update
0.00 (4/21/2018 $12,161.07 R172)
Had a plan when the budget line for car payment/ repair line was 200.00 more than the payoff it was time to payoff this loan.
It was a little less however today was payday and this pay would have put it over so I went ahead and paid it off Wednesday.

Btw, I drive Lyft on top of my full-time job, it's not much, after taxes and expenses, it's about $100/wk more, but - that's $400/month more I will be able to use. I'm getting there. Slowly, but I'm getting there.
What are my plans? My plans are: pay the piddly bills as fast as possible, and clear the decks the big ones. The plan is - I turned 59 last month, and I will have access to a part of my retirement savings at 59 1/2 - in October. Although my accountant tells me it's better for me to wait until 2024, so I will take about $70K in January, 2024, and cut out all the credit cards.
And to stop driving Lyft. Ugh. I'll have a mortgage after that. And that's all. And I can work with

Oh, you bet yer sweet bippy! Wayfair is a mixed bag of stuff, and some of it is great, but a lot of it is not. Gotta be careful, if you have to assemble it, don't buy it, and don't buy lights at all! And 38%? F*K. Wayfair ain't as "inexpensive" as they make themselves out to be, not by a long shot!
I need to pay WF and the Care Credit - the interest free on that goes away in July. The rest is... stuff. Headaches...

There aren't enough summer classes available for me to start this term but I AM registered for Fall: three 8-week courses and one 16-week course. Come July, I'm going to see if there is another 8-week course available that I can add to the portion of the term where I'm taking only two classes. I've been able to sell a number of beautiful clothing items that I had acquired in the past year from I often succumbed to the pretty-ness of them and bought more than I should. Thankfully, they hold their value and I was able to resale them within one of the groups just for Damsel items. These funds were then added to what I hung on to at the very beginning of the month in order to pay down my CC as the month goes on rather than waiting until my next payday on the 1st of the month. However, I did invest in a few household items via www.bedbathandbeyond.com and their liquidation sale. Things like a new set of sheets, a rollaway bed, a shoe rack, and a roll around clothing rack. I start the new part-time job tomorrow. Hello, Talbots! I anticipate far less stress than at the bank--did NOT realize how much came with the job there. Still going slow and steady, one day at a time. I've been bugging frugalpokermama over on FB that we haven't seen her since last summer so I think we'll be seeing her again soon.

quick update, and it's not exactly accurate as I can't access one account online. I've tried multiple browsers on both laptop and phone. site is refusing the connection, whatever. so for that line item in my spreadsheet, I took the payment off last month's number. I'm just missing whatever interest hit for this month. not huge. ETA - the universe must have known I updated, b/c I just got an email for my digital statement and was able to back door my way in to the online account. balance number is updated, it was ~$100 difference.
in any case, I forgot I restarted this race in May after selling my last house. look how pretty my current balance looks against that start number! definitely making me feel better about turtling the last few months. I'm probably going to be carrying some interest on the card that resets in July (to 13.99%). not ideal, but I very much needed the 2 weeks of fun I just got back from. my active CC needs some attention now...

Well, I had a nice little surprise, I found I'd paid Wayfair more than I thought, I realized I paid them twice! So my balance on Wayfair is actually down to 969.88. But the interest on my interest free for six months on Home Depot kicked in (dagnabbit!), so instead of $1,395, I have a balance of $1,440. *sigh* - can't win fer losin'! Oh, well! It still balances out to $78,045, $7 less than the last total!!

Four shifts under my belt at Talbots now. My daily steps has increased 200-400% compared to the last job and working is fun again. It's hard, don't get me wrong. My body isn't used to 13,000+ steps on a regular basis just yet but it's getting there. I'm sleeping better because of the increased physicality, too. More importantly, I get paid weekly and that means I'll be making weekly payments to the 0% debt since it and my paycheck are at the same bank.
My next update will be at the beginning of June. There won't be any big drops since I'm paying just minimums like I did this month but there will be downward progress still.

On our way again. I also have a card (Discover) that I am not racing that is going down really well. I put our dental insurance on it. and it should be paid off before the end of the year. That way I can put next year's dental insurance on it again. And so it goes!
Here in Wisconsin we finally have some nice weather.

I know I totally fell off the smiley updates, but I am still trucking along. I can't seem to find 5 seconds to sit down and post updates these days. We've really got to re-evaluate our spending over here. We've just had so many random expenses lately and it's really thrown us off.

curious - what's the credit hit on closing a single CC account? I got a mailer today, basically imploring me to convert my inactive Citi card to a different flavor, which I already have and was planning to keep when I'm done paying shit down (Citi has early access for concert tickets...). I'm debating calling and asking them to transfer the available balance on the inactive card to the one I still use, and closing the one account. anyone do this recently? I have, but it was well before the mortgage bullshit 10-12y ago. so idk if this is even still possible. TIA!

I'm posting a little early (and including some automatic payments that don't post for another few days, but whatever) because I was thinking of it this morning. also, I threw a little extra at one of the cards, to get me a hair under $20k for my race! I got the notification yesterday about the vesting of stocks for one of my bonus awards yesterday, and I should know more about the primary bonus award in the next couple weeks. that will help me figure out how I am tackling the rest of my race and the house projects on tap for this summer. I'd also like to stash some $ in my online savings account as the interest rate is currently over 4%. chiver78 6/22/23 $19,993.54 (5/9/20 $138,495.31)

I agree on the nice weather in the Midwest, though it could be a little cooler! nikiz628 - You’re making good progress, try to keep that in mind. Is there anything the group can help with regarding all the random expenses? chiver78 - Awesome update and congrats on dropping under $20k! Smileys: Link to Smileys

nikiz628 you're making progress but the interest rates are SO high. Any chance of a balance transfer or even a bank loan? It's so hard to make progress with those rates. Yay for being under 20K chiver78 ! That's fabulous! I can't wait to hear your plans for knocking out the rest. What's your timeline for the last 20K? (I miss seeing your table with the individual loans listed, but hey LOL.) Minnesotagirl7 it's great that you had the EF for the HVAC!

nothing huge to share about timeline, debthaven. but I'm actively looking for a new job this summer, as the RTO mandate isn't going away. we actually got word of a senior VP vacating his post yesterday, and the first comment I saw was "well, he didn't wanna be in the office 2x/wk either!" so I felt a lot better about myself and my boundaries lol... some of the math I'll do with the upcoming bonuses is going to be balancing debt payoff and having cash on hand while I navigate a job change. the unexpected number I saw for things vesting in a few weeks definitely impacts those considerations.

*sigh*
I turtled on payments this month, and I'm looking through - not all complete, yet - and I've still got SO much month left... *sigh*
And it's all because I went to the grocery store... and had to pay a fee to get my car out of the towing lot after I parked in the wrong spot... *sigh*

Update:
nidena: 6/7/2023 $37,759.81 (8/22/2007 $223,361.20 N453,503,NE648,NPT25)
The balance is all my installment debts (except my mortgage) and the 0% MC which is down to $2900 from $5200 in February.
I have a road trip coming up soon so I know that will add to the CC that I use regularly but I don't anticipate more than one month of partial balance carry over. I had to get tires last week but was able to only pay off $500 of the cost from my Automobile Savings account. In any case, I'm not beating myself up because where I am is SOOOO much better than where I started nearly 16 years ago.
My next update will coincide with my WIRR anniversary date. I will have started school by then but it won't be until September that I see the housing stipend from the GI Bill. Once that kicks in, I anticipate a quick paydown on my PL but, until then, just taking it one day at a time.
I started reading Atomic Habits and it is already helping me make mindset changes regarding habits and how they shape my identity. If you haven't read it, I recommend it. It's a very short read but, even then, I've read only the first three sections but I've read them three times over, wanting to ensure I didn't miss anything.

so I had the review/numbers chat in this week's 1:1 meeting, and the primary bonus landed today. gotta love that payday when you login to your bank account, amiright? lol.... anyway, today, I've paid off the daily use card that had a small lingering balance from last month (plus what I've used this month) and threw $10k into my HYSA. current interest rate is 4%. that's a nice spot for it to sit until I figure out what I'm doing. I can't remember the tax situation for the stocks bonus that is a few weeks out. I'd like to know what that is before I decide what to do iwth the liquidated proceeds. I'm going to BT the balance that's about to reset, and then the highest interest rate I'll have til next March is the 6.99% (for the life of the balance) that's on the one card I'm racing. I'm okay with waiting to figure it out. oh, and debthaven - the two remaining cards have $10.7k and $9.2k, respectively. the first has the 5.99%, the latter is about to reset to 13.99% next month.

How-do! OK, here's the latest:
Care Credit 400.00 -50.00 0.00% 350.00 Mattress 680.00 -90.00 0.00% 590.00 Wayfair 969.88 -60.00 38.99% 935.23 Citibank 3,111.95 -100.00 26.74% 3,013.95 Toyota 6,315.37 -325.00 4.65% 6,016.92 NCL - BofA 1,873.27 -75.00 29.99% 1,844.65 Lowe’s 16,967.18 -500.00 26.99% 16,745.24 Discover 17,736.63 -398.00 25.74% 17,732.67 Target 10,453.64 -360.00 27.15% 10,675.79 Home Depot 1,440.65 -60.00 26.99% 1,404.78 Trumark 18,096.86 -453.38 7.99% 17,832.97 78,045.43 -2,471.38 77,142.20
*sigh*. So, the total balance went down, that's a good thing, but I had a couple of setbacks which really ticked me off.
I'm unhappy with Discover. I froze the account - it doesn't affect my credit, supposedly - but since I did that, my balance due, days they accrue interest, etc., notice how my payment was all of a $4 dent in the balance? Last month, a payment for $400, which there was a "due" of $398 (the $398 was automatically deducted, not a set payment I made) was nearly overtaken by interest. And this month, my "due" is $418. Why? Well, according to the credit support folks, there were 31 days in the cycle, last month was 30 days. So - 1 day makes a difference of over $20 in interest? Color me totally disgusted. Playing with days, etc., I yelled at them, why would they make my payment to them worth nothing? THIS is how people get deeper and deeper in the hole, not because of poor paying habits - I pay them! They get their money, and they make it worth nothing. I really think my freezing the account triggered something.
And then I had to use my Target card, so my payment there - ugh, now I owe more. I also had to get my car out of a tow. Yuck. Annoyance. Frustration.
Still... overall, I went down in the totals. Not like I wanted to, but down.
Big Sigh.

Big Sigh.Hugs Lark You are getting really close on the Wayfair card and the interest rate on that is brutal compared to everything else. You are also getting close on the BoA and home depot cards so maybe by the end of the year you could have a few cards paid off. Than, you can hopefully snowball the min balances to some other low hanging balances.

I think Discover is still charging interest at 25.74% and on that balance the amount of interest is probably correct.
