Took my car in for a tire rotation and oil change yesterday. It just hit 60,000 miles last week and will be due for new tires soon so I'm adding that to the things I need to save for within my "Automotive Expenses" savings account. I do have enough in my Home Renovations account to get the first project done but that number was based upon early January estimates so I'm going to save a bit more to cover expected increases in cost. I have my finance person running the numbers to see if it's fiscally better to roll the full annuity into the Traditional IRA and withdraw a smidge from the Roth to obliterate the Visa balance that won't be paid off on March 1st or just incur the IRS penalty on the Annuity. None of that happens for three weeks so I'm sitting tight. In my other debts, the mortgage and the PL are almost down to their next thousand--just one payment away--and that's exciting to see. Have a great week, everyone!

We just got my oil changed this morning and got a quote on getting new tires. Between $800-$1000. I couldn't believe my eyes. And this is just good ole GoodYear tires. Nothing special and not a strange size. I am happy we won't get them until April so we can work on saving some money towards them.

Yeah, I looked up the factory installed tires for my car and they're nearly $300 each. Suitable subs are less than $200. I'm going to see what Honda quotes me and then use tirerack.com if they estimate too high for my taste.

First update since tax refund arrived! Mourningcloak(3): 2/15/23 $54,309.00 (12/8/21 $61,046.20)
This has left me excited. I paid off the smaller personal loan, and all cards (except Navy Federal) are at $0 or 0%. I'm glad to have gotten this momentum because debt pay down is going to slow down. We finally found a truck to replace the junker before it truly falls apart. I don't plan to race that one for now. The hope is that eventually hubby will be back to work and covering the payments himself, though lately I dread him going back to work! That's a whole lot of changes that might not be best for us all. Only time will tell.

My coworkers and I were discussing how leadership--those in charge of approving the time cards--like to cook the books. Now, as a part-timer, I hadn't been aware of it but I decided to do a social experiment. I usually get to work around 9:45 and leave right at 2 but I input my hours as 10am and 2pm, not really thinking about the wage theft that it is. For last week, I decided to input the times that I was actually working: 9:50, 9:55, etc. My hours total was 20.4 hours. I went in this morning and saw that 20 hours was the approved total. They had adjusted all my 9:xx to 10. Looks like I won't be getting to work early any more. It's too bad the system isn't like what they have at VS and WHBM, where you just clock in and clock out and the system captures that actual time that those things occur.
In the CC pay off front, I decided to empty the savings that I had been filling up for the small reno project and put that towards paying off the CC. This means, I won't use any of my Annuity or IRA in the pay off process. I can just roll the Annuity into the Trad IRA and call it a day. As for the reno project, I'll just roll it into the kitchen reno that's down the road and for which, I plan to use/get a HELOC. I'm currently waiting for the savings funds to transfer from one bank to another. Once that goes through, I'll lay the whammy on the Visa.

We have electronic clocks and are paid by the minute, but for hourly production workers there is a rule that they can't punch in more than 7 minutes before the start of their shift or punch out later than 7 minutes after without manager approval. You get paid, but get an attendance occurrence if you work unauthorized overtime.

At all of the tax office where I worked, we couldn't punch in until the time we were assigned to start work. At one, we could punch in when we started working during the really busy season. Other than that, no punching in early or late.
Once place even had the clock set up so you couldn't punch in until your assigned time.
And, yes, to get around those rules, there had to be management approval. Sometimes in a tax office, you are so close to completing a tax return and can do it in 30 minutes. But waiting until morning, means getting everything out again and figure out where you were, etc. Some firms would allow me to stay and complete the return and others wouldn't.
In Colorado, OT was not required to be paid to accountants or tax preparers, so it was straight time.
One firm did pay OT. Owner said that law did not prevent him from deciding to pay his people OT.

I've never dealt with this kind of system before. Military, I was salary. Retail, we clocked in and clocked out and since most stores are so short staffed anyway, they didn't care if you clocked in or out outside of your time. This is the first where I'm dealing with inputting the time I start and stop work, sick time, holiday pay, etc. It puts one more task on the worker rather than on the payroll dept. Again, it's not that I'm "clocking in/out" at all. I'm inputting the time. I feel for my FT counterparts because they have to input two blocks of time each day they work: before lunch and after lunch, starts and stops.

Talk about a shitty night and shitty expenses. I just spent $600 at the emergency vet. Turns out my cat had congestive heart failure and had to be put down. They said they could do more tests to be sure but, when I asked if any of those tests would help him get better and they said "no", I opted not to do them. It would just be the more expensive route to the same rainbow bridge destination.

Nidena- So sorry for your lose. Our animals are members of the family and it is a big lose when they have to be put down. But just think of it like she is running and playing at the Rainbow Bridge.
This month has been crazy. On Jan. 22 my brother in law passed away and then on February 16 my sister passed. So they are together now. But this has been expensive for us. They both lived in Milwaukee which is about 2 hours away, so lots of gas and we stayed over night for the funerals because I don't like driving in the dark. I too am getting old! So the last expense will be this weekend. Like I said a crazy month.
I am hoping to get another BT paid off either this month or next. Had our taxes done and we get money back from the State but owe the Feds! And of course we have to add about $1100 to the State refund. So we may have to cancel our trip to NC in April or May.
Does anyone have Spectrum for their internet and TV? We just got this month's bill and it has gone up another $13.08. That doesn't seem like a lot but it just went up another $25 about 2 months ago. I want so bad to get away from them but don't know who to go to.
Happy St. Patrick's Day, it is coming soon.

Well, in looking at my debt tracker, it's been a year since I last paid off BOTH statement balances on my CCs but it is done! The transfer hit my USAA account, as did my military pension and disability, today so I made sure to pay the statement balance on both CCs. They each still have a balance but I still have some funds that can be put towards one of them to pay it off completely. I'm just waiting for all my bills to clear out of my account and then, when the dust settles, I'll see what I'm working with. Feels good to have those balances paid off again. This past summer, I was able to pay off only one each month.

I paid off the AmEx yesterday. Now, only the Visa and my new MC have balances. If I continue to pay $200-$300 towards the MC BT each payday, it should be paid off come Summer.
I have an appt with the tax preparer tomorrow so here's hoping for a small return. I know I made less in 2022 than I did in 2021 so I shouldn't have a large tax bill like I did last year.
I have an HVAC person coming out on Monday to give me an estimate on the replacement cost of my system. There are some changes/updates that need to be made to the ducting and the estimate for that was pretty high so I'm curious to see what it will be to change the whole shebang. There have been some changes made to HVAC requirements that went into effect this year that made the refrigerant obsolete and increased sustainability for systems. This change will also lead to it (possibly) being more difficult to find replacement parts for older units. Mine is from 2010 so it's already reaching its average age of death and I'd rather replace something before it craps out for good.

It's been quite some time since I've done an update. I've been dealing with a bunch of medical stuff. Here is my update for my Loan race. I started an MBA program in January and didn't even think about the consequences to my SLs, but I got a notice from the servicer that I'm in deferrance as a student. That means my subsidized loan will have interest paid by gov while I'm in school and more of my payments will go to the principle. The bad thing about all the medical expenses that have come up over the last year is that I now have about $4k in CC balances I can't pay off right now and am carrying on 0% offers. I finalized our taxes last week and won't get much back. It's all allocated to IRA/savings. I will just keep plugging along for now. I have a loose plan to pay off about $2k of the CC balance I'm carrying but it all depends on other stuff, like final medical bills after my surgery next month.
Keep up the good work WIRRS!

Between Fed and State, it looks like I'm getting back just under $500. I call that math done well, in that I didn't give the govt a large free loan all last year. And it cost me less than $100 vs the amount that Turbo Tax and/or H&R Block might have charged.

Yesterday we went to the Pellet Stove store. Bought 1 skid of pellets for next winter and paid to have our stoves cleaned out just before we get into next winter and it was $682! I am not sure that we save money anymore having the pellet stoves. How much do other people pay to heat their houses. We do live in the Northern Midwest. Wisconsin near Green Bay. Just want to compare if this is still saving us money.
Have a fantastic day.

Just want to compare if this is still saving us money. Have a fantastic day. What would you heat with normally? Is that $682 a whole winter's worth? I'm in MN and friends are paying close to $400/month for natural gas heat right now. I have LP and pre-buy in the summer. Last year with the gas prices going up, I paid $512 for a summer fill and $1224 to pre-buy for the winter. They just topped off the tank yesterday and used up the last of the pre-fill and it was a bill of about $100 left over. This tank will last me until Summer fill again. So, $1836 for heat (water heater too) for one year.
That's up from what normally would have been $900-$1200.

We have natural gas. We cook with it and our hot water heater uses it. Yes 1 skid will be enough for the next winter and we end up paying about $80 for gas in the winter and $30 in the summer. I get my husband to do alot of grilling in the nice weather!!!!

Then I would say (assuming your house is average size) that you're getting by quite a bit cheaper than most people these days to heat the whole winter for less than $700.

quick fly-by update this month, a little later than usual. minimal change (~$400) on the overall balance, noted in the tagline. but I did want to provide an update as to why - I'm trying new things at this point. instead of chunking down the next snowball amount, I'm taking that biweekly payment out and stuffing in my HYSA. I will have to account for the paving bill, but the rest will get thrown at the snowball (and hopefully pay it off) just before the rate resets. my HYSA is paying 3.5% these days, and rising, while the CC is hanging out at 0% interest. in the grand scheme of things, it's not a lot....but I'm trying to create the habit of pulling $ over to that HYSA. oh, and I just got my tax return back from the CPA - it's basically a wash between state/Fed, so I'm doing that right. chiver78 23/14/23 $21,906.38 (5/9/20 $138,495.31)

Woo hoo for this update! Got my annual bonus a couple weeks ago. Set some aside to pay for taxes and insurance this spring, and put the rest towards the mortgage. Our balance dropped under $200k and we passed $200k/50% paid off. Soooo excited for these milestones!!
I also made sure to post this on March 18th. Its the 3-year anniversary of this race, and my 14th anniversary as a Racer.
