Sorry for the drive-by updates, just too busy right now. I promise there will be shoutouts with the next updates in a couple weeks.
Some great progress lately, keep it up racers! A few folks have dropped off the list. If you're close to them, reach out and nudge them to update. Let's keep holding each other accountable for these numbers!

Also - my last comment for chiver this month!! I think you may not be looking at the big picture on your current debt, either that, or you are keeping us from seeing the details. You haven't given a complete list of debts with interest rates in quite some time, and no payment/newbalance info in a while. Of course you aren't obligated to! But I think it would be helpful if you lay it all out for yourself at least and see where you are really at in terms of the various cards and interest and balance wise. If we see that, could possible offer some advise, and if you had a budge to share? all good. I welcome the comments. to quickly answer a couple things, interest rates are the same as when I posted then back in Feb(?) except that one promotional rate expires this month (resets to 19%). everything is listed out, with the exception of the $400 car payment at 1.xx% and a 0% furniture purchase that is another $50/month. I reposted the interest rates more recently than the winter, as well. I'm on my phone now, and not sure I can easily c/p it. I think it is 30 days since an update - if I'm correct that this is the last post you made here. Are you following through with selling the house? Will that change your approach to the red racing?

Update Race 1
71697.60 (1/3/2011 $97,382.42 MPT5)
Not much to say. Only paid 2.00 more than minimum payment. No longer on target to hit this year's goal.
Plan for next month is to add another extra $15.00

Plan for next month is to add another extra $15.00 As long as it is not "interest only" and you are paying the minimum - and not adding to the balance - there is at least a little progress. You added $2 extra - so a little bit more! take the win!

all good. I reposted the interest rates more recently than the winter, as well. I'm on my phone now, and not sure I can easily c/p it. I think it is 30 days since an update - if I'm correct that this is the last post you made here. Are you following through with selling the house? Will that change your approach to the red racing? okay, I have pulled numbers, and it's not as bad I was expecting it to be. I had to put an almost $600 electric bill on a card (2 months of A/C, I had forgotten to pay it the month before, and the windows have been open pretty much since then). the total balance only went up ~$1500. so, this is clearly not sustainable. and even though I am getting $400/mo back some time next summer when my car is paid off, I definitely need to keep plugging at it and try to keep the spending to a minimum. unfortunately next month, I'm going to need to buy heartworm/flea and tick meds for both pups. usually I do a year at a time for ~$700. but the rebates weren't that great last year, so I should probably shop around for that. suggestions welcome! as far as selling the house, idk how much detail I've given in *this* thread, so bear with me if some of this is repeat info. I am almost certain I am following through on listing, but I will do that for the spring market when I get back from the winter music cruise. I have decided to give roommate a notice to quit/non-renewal of lease when I get back from the bonus one in Nov - gives me time and space to fix the few small things I should do before listing. the realtor that came through a couple weeks ago did a market analysis and suggests that I can reasonably list for about $60k more than my purchase price. that's cool. after mtg payoff and commission, I would clear over $45k. selling would absolutely impact the racing. I would wipe out the remaining balance on the card that has a $30k limit and sends me promos all the time, then combine a few other balances onto that one at minimal interest. I haven't mapped out exactly what moves I would make, but there are definitely options based on which accounts I'd rather keep open to move stuff around as promos expire. there's also the matter of after selling, I'd be moving closer to work, and toward a cluster of friends with dogs, so I should be able to count on lower pup care costs as we pool in-home doggy daycare (I have already discussed this with one of them, and she's onboard with this). one of the options for pet-friendly apartments is walking distance to the train, so my car maintenance costs would be almost nothing while I live there. chiver78: 9/20/19 $128,669.83 (2/13/19 $121,788.98)

Have you done a a really clear budget on what is income/outgo so you know how much - relative to income - it takes you to live month to month? I've been working on budget issues myself, so I can tell you it isn't an instant-knowledge thing! you need to track and project and live with it for a while before you get a good understanding of it. And then you could compare that budget to your expected expenses in the rent situation - how does that look different? The impact selling and renting on your monthly spending and how that will change your racing would be easier to quantify.

Speaking of budget tracking - Due to my Rukh, inc. activities and mom in the hospital - I haven't reconciled accounts in a few weeks, and I can already see trouble! My usual credit card for daily use has a balance of nearly 2k after paying off the balance from the previous statement just a day or two ago....I think it is likely related to fall tuition payment, and some extra expense due to mom's hospital stay - parking fees, flowers, treats, etc. But - I won't know until I reconcile, and I don't want to!! The kitchen and whole house needs cleaning, and I don't want to!!

Yesterday, I slept all day. The past two weeks have been very stressful. I had to replan my move TWICE and then we got a huge shipment--nearly 250 boxes total--at work on Thursday and Friday. After the yard sale on Saturday, my body and brain were DONE. I did NOTHING yesterday.

Does anyone use one of the online financial tools? We've used mint for the longest time, but I'm just fed up with the issues and how poorly the site seems to work (at least for us). We're shopping around for an alternative. I've heard good things about one called Personal Capital. I like the idea of having all our accounts linked to one place to get an overall financial picture.
Thanks!

I'm a little early this month. My check for the end of the month was already in my account, so I made my mortgage payment.

Thanks! My bank allows me to link everything to my Accounts homepage. I can see all their accounts, plus my American Heritage FCU account, my Freedom Mortgage account, and both my student loans.

I had to edit an automatic payment rule in order to accommodate a resetting promotional rate this am, and sanity checked everything else while I was in there. I won't put up an update, since it's still early for the month and some payments haven't posted yet.....but the balances are already down almost $1k this month.

Just realized that I'm due and, after conversation on a YM thread, I made two large payments to my CC today which is good because that puts me at a net decrease in my overall debt.

paynointerest you are SO SO close!!! How is the work in the house going? Debthaven -- I know! It is exciting. One of the things I am trying to figure out is if I should try to establish an equity line of credit on my house before it gets paid off. I'm not sure how it works. My thinking was to have this in place so in case something comes up, have access to funds beyond my savings and investments. My class size for my class increased by 35% and I did not factor that in when I kept some of my assignments. The grading burden (I'm sure you can relate), is too much to read so many written assignments. I already changed one of the future assignments to where they have to work in pairs, this will reduce the grading by 50%. I'm also removing essay questions from exams. I have already spent 4 hours today grading and I'd rather be out enjoying the beautiful fall weather. So, to answer your question about the house, not much as been done. DH and I are in the thick of school, grading for our normal class load and teaching our overload courses that meet from 6-9 pm once a week. The overload classes will be done by the first week of November and I'm excited about that.
