I've got an update to post in the next couple days, it's not good. had a few things go on a card bc I forgot the bills were coming. not a valid excuse, but it will have to do for right now. steady state is still good, it's the one offs that I need to be better about. I am still putting 99% of my day to day stuff on debit card, so that's a win. the reason I'm posting tonight with no tagline update is bc i got notified of my "stock" grant for 2019 today. remember that unexpected $800 I got in early June? well, I'll get a full share for FY2019. 1/3 of it vests next June, and that will be at least $7k pre-tax. 😯 I figure I can keep a few hundred to have a little fun, and throw the rest at whatever the current snowball is by that point. woot! Glad to see you updating! I was actually tuning in to tag you today if you weren't updating, as you had asked me to keep you in the convo. I think keeping an eye on the ball is really important. I've been back and forth about EFs for just the bolded#1 above. It helps to have something to draw from, but then again, you could pay the balance down a bit instead and save on interest. When you get your stocks, I think you should put 1k into an EF so that your cc balances aren't swinging up with the unexpected. You need to see clear progress and not have those swings be clouding the overall trend. Have you looked at your monthly budget? What kind of wiggle room might you have? And - do you have 3 paycheck months were you can get ahead a little bit? And to be honest with you here, on bolded#2 - it sounds to me like you are having "a little fun" on the regular from various postings. I think you really need to figure out having some very low-cost fun, and forgoing a few things if you want to get things under better control.

UPDATE Chicg [2] - 8/14/19, $8,996 (11/7/14, 4217.34 MPT266) Discover $8,996 ($500 less than last month) Boring update. I had to add some charges to a cc...I got sick and ended up with an urgent care bill, several trips to CVS for medicines, instacart for groceries and medicine since I felt too crappy to go shopping by myself (especially without a car), another vet visit, etc. And my mom is visiting this weekend and I know I'll need the cc to pay for a dinner or Ubers (when I'd normally walk/bus), etc. I'll add those Chase charges to my debt total next month and then just work on paying them off. I also need to revisit my budget, I've been spending a little more this summer on social events and it finally seems to have caught up to me. Need to reign it in! Nidena - I haven't looked into grad assist jobs but I'm definitely open to something part time! Not every month can be a win, chicg! As long as most of them are, you will be doing good!

you are correct, I do have "a little fun" pretty regularly. but, that's not a year-round thing, I live in a touristy area. I hardly go out once the weather turns. this is not an excuse, it's just what it is. I figure that by smart shopping and meal prep, it's not quite as bad as it seems. and, there are a number of free or low-cost things I do that I don't necessarily post about here. this afternoon, I'm taking the pups for a long playdate with my friend M and her pittie. tomorrow, I'm going back to the place that has live music out by the water around dinnertime. I'm already planning to grab a light dinner at the house before going to meet the group. then I can grab a glass of wine or two and just hang out and relax. as far as the rest, this month is actually a 3-paycheck month. I'm using that 3rd check to offset some of the additional balances to the CC that I added this month with those one-offs. I completely get the back and forth on EFs, for the same reasons. I think that I will likely keep $1k of the stocks payout in the basic savings account at my CU. they pay over 6% interest on that first $1k, so that's not too shabby. there is a little bit of wiggle room in the monthly budget, but honestly what I'm doing at this point is throwing anything and everything extra at the ugly interest rate CC to wipe it out. once I do that, I'll have more wiggle room and options. I think I said earlier that my CCs are still sending me promotional BT rates. so I can consolidate once I have an empty shell, and then there's also my $400 car payment that goes away next summer that I can add to my snowball. I think as long as I can manage to not add to this total, I'll be okay soon. I posted a little in another thread, I think in SS or YM, but I have been doing a lot of thinking about where I am and how I got here. I've got a lot of changes coming up, some that I haven't figured out the details for, and I have some work to do. I know this. I'll get there.

One time I was able to get out of cc debt quickly by paying everything by cc and every paycheck going in and paying as much as I could on the balance, and trying to churn things so that when one card was clear, I charged there, etc. Every penny went to cc except for mortgage and bills I couldn't pay without extra fees. This was back in the 00s so quite a bit was still not cc friendly. I paid towards the cc everypay, not just when due. So if I had $500 for food for the month, I'd pay that on the cc balance, and then charge $500 for food as slowly as I could to help reduce overall interest. But - that can cloud things I think if you aren't careful, and that might not work with so many cards going on. It might be of use to increase balances on lower interest cards while decreasing on higher interest. But again - you have to be careful, and I assessed debt load every payday. Isn't of use to me currently as my debts are mainly SLs and then IRS. So, I finally started with the EF recently almost on a meditate level of wish-fulfillment whereby saving towards and EF meant the I had the financial wherewithall to do so and if I did, then I could do it, rather than looking at the numbers and deciding that I could. Although right now, I have a few extra dollars and am trying to decide if I will be using that towards the IRS, the personal loan, student loans, or EF. Need to project out and make sure I don't put too much in given allthe other bills need paying in the next 3 weeks.

I think you may not be looking at the big picture on your current debt, either that, or you are keeping us from seeing the details. You haven't given a complete list of debts with interest rates in quite some time, and no payment/newbalance info in a while.
Of course you aren't obligated to! But I think it would be helpful if you lay it all out for yourself at least and see where you are really at in terms of the various cards and interest and balance wise. If we see that, could possible offer some advise, and if you had a budge to share?

Meanwhile, back at chez Rukh.......... My other big IRS payment cleared, but will wait for my monthly update following student loans on 9/5. Excited about that as that one will really look good . After that I am interested to see how I get along on 'average' monthly payments (updates 10/5 and 11/5). That will be a good indicator of my real ability to make progress. I had a 2k refund from 2017 taxes, then a 3 paycheck month. Now it is down to the usual, and that won't be showing as much momentum.

ok - so I looked a bit more closely into my "few extra dollars" and I have over 700 to spend....that does not seem right at all and I can't imagine it is true, but I projected really far out on what I might need the money for and can't find it before mid-September....so I spent it! Hope this all goes ok!!
I paid it mostly toward IRS, and did a lump sum extra on the private student loan, and 50 into EF.
I can kind of trace about 400 extra, and then I have the 300 extra I expect, so I guess that is 700 and it makes sense! fingers crossed!

I welcome the comments. to quickly answer a couple things, interest rates are the same as when I posted then back in Feb(?) except that one promotional rate expires this month (resets to 19%). everything is listed out, with the exception of the $400 car payment at 1.xx% and a 0% furniture purchase that is another $50/month. I reposted the interest rates more recently than the winter, as well. I'm on my phone now, and not sure I can easily c/p it.

A money story from my trip. I reserved a room in a hotel just north of Columbus, OH for last Friday. After driving ten hours, I arrived and got settled in my room. During the time that I was there, I found mold on the carpet. I tell you, any time I find mold, I start looking for other stuff. "What else is wrong?" There was a broken light fixture in the bathroom, the water lines were kinked to the sink. The faceplate of the entry light switch was missing a screw. And a slew of other things that I can't remember, now, because it was a week ago.
I got home yesterday afternoon. Fighting a migraine the last hour of my trip. Part of my decompress time was spent looking over my CC transactions for the trip. I see three for this one hotel. One was the original transaction, one was a mystery, and the third was his attempt to refund me a partial (because of the room issues) but he ended up charging me instead. I called the hotel to find out what the extra charge was and to resolve the "refund". He asks me "Did you have two rooms reserved?" "No, just one." "Oh, well, the $125 is for a late cancellation." There's more to the conversation but I don't recall all of it because my migraine was escalating. I went on Hilton's website to look at my activity and, sure enough, it's showing a canx. The migraine was full force by this time so I got off the computer.
This morning, I call Hilton's 800# to ask about the activity. The rep says the canx was done at 6pm on that Friday and it was the online reservation that I made. So, they canx my reservation and then BAM! three hours later, there I was, wanting a room. I called the hotel this morning and talked to the manager. He was awesome. I explained that I'm not looking for any sort of comp for the things I found. I would just like refunds for the canx that I didn't make and the "refund" that the guy attempted to make. He said he'd take care of it and he'd send me an email with the adjusted receipt.
OH, and I canx my surgery. I'm in the process of writing a letter to the surgeon, outlining the sequence of events that lead to my decision, in hopes that he takes a look at the processes in his office.

I got a 0% interest for all purchases for 12 months about 6 months ago and then charged many of the medical expenses for this last year to this account. The balance is currently at $1,712.
- Win this race!!! I would love to win this race finally. The current balance is on a 0% offer that expires in September. January’s payment posted yesterday, would need to pay $375/month to pay off before promo expires. I currently pay $50-100/month.
- Increase EF & savings to $3,000.
What is my plan? - I got a raise and a supplement that went into effect on Dec. 1st. It comes to about $400 extra each month. I want to send it all to pay off Citi before the promo ends, and then shift the extra to this race. That would pay off Citi in 4.5 months.
- I hope to reach goal #2 with the help of any tax refund.
- I have no plan to reach #3. I just pray my car lasts through 2019 so I can keep as much of my puny savings as I can.

I currently have a $2,900 balance on my race that I'm only paying $100/month on. Looks like I will be in this race another 2 years. 3. Finally got my EF to $1,000. I won't be going much higher. This year all my "plans" and "goals" got real knock-out blows. I shared here the deaths that I had to deal with, but I have not shared that I'm expecting and am due the first week of December. Due to the expected loss of income for a couple of months I'm not being as aggressive as I normally would. I also got a new-to-me used car last month. Having a car payment again also slows everything down significantly. I will race the car separately...just not sure if I want to start now or wait until after the new year. I will have med bills to factor in for the new year as well. Additionally, my income will be changing a couple of times over the next 6 months. Benefit costs change starting September and I'm not sure the effect on my take home. I'm losing the supplement starting in November but if any raises happen, they will go in effect for January. I will have short-term disability while out on FMLA but again, I'm not sure the amount or for how long since all vacation and sick time has to be exhausted first. With all the variables, I think it's better to just pay what I can to keep the current race going down and wait for some smoother waters to get my bearing straight and work on a new plan. Just received the refund check from the surgeon's office. They refunded ALL of what I paid, even the nonrefundable deposit. A mail-in deposit to my checking account and then just a payment away from knocking that portion of funds off my CC.
On a separate note: It's so quiet around here. Where is everyone?

I'm here! It seems to go in waves. The group is super chatty one week, then all is quiet for a while... We closed on the sale of our old house. It was tough for me, I really loved that house. We got quite a bit of money back. We paid back some short-term "loans" we had for the down payment on our new house. Now we need to quote out some home improvements. Once we know what those will cost, we can decide what to do with the rest. Still hoping to make a lump sum payment to the mortgage this year. I won't do anything yet, though its tough to wait!

Last week, my manager at WHBM asked if I could work some shifts today and tomorrow. I said sure. Then, after talking to my manager at LE, I found out we had a floorset for Sunday (yesterday) so I volunteered to work some hours. Unfortunately, I had to leave before we were done because I needed to get meds into my kitty in the 9 o'clock hour last night. This morning, WHBM manager texts that she doesn't need me tonight (I was going to close 5-9:30ish) which is kind of awesome because I felt bad about leaving before things were done last night at LE. I texted her, asking if she needed some more help today with the unfinished floorset. She replied: I will always take your help. So, instead of working 4-5 hours at $10/hr, I get to work 6-8 hours at $11/hr and drive a (slightly) shorter distance to do so. I'll take it!

Update to Race #1, #2, #3 and #4! $971.29 paid off in the last 2 weeks!! Another update that's over a week late. I've still been working on getting caught up at work. After putting in a few hours Saturday and Sunday (thank goodness I work from home)I think I finally made it to back to normal! Now I just need to get my house cleaning and resell business caught up!
New puppy girl is getting along famously! If you would like to see pictures of Misteigh Mae I will be putting some on my blog today. (link is at the bottom of the entry)
I won another state softball championship since my last update! This is my 3rd state championship overall and my 2nd this year.
We booked some tickets to go see the MN Twins play in a few weeks. We also booked rooms at 3 different casinos for the trip. I'm excited to go party for a few days!
We threw just a little extra on the Rental Mortgages to get under the next $1000 for the 6th month in a row.
Savings is at $15,300 the last time I balanced it. I haven't updated savings in about month so it should be at least a few hundred dollars higher from normal auto deposits.
Celebrations for this update: -$971.29 paid off in the last 2 weeks!! -Race #1 went under the next $1000 mark!! -Total Debt went under the next $1000 mark for the 6th update in a row!!

Hope everyone is doing well! I will scroll tonight and catch up. I didn't fall of the face of the earth, I swear! I'm still doing the thing. Things got a little busy with the move to CT and new job. I'm happy to report that work paid the taxes on my relocation so I received a flat $10K to move, which was enough to make it happen and not incur any additional debt. I do have an amount on my credit card right now because I was trying to keep track of moving expenses on that card, but it's scheduled to be paid off in full this week. My move was smooth and so, so fast. Everyone who volunteered to help showed up and the truck was packed in an hour and unpacked with everything in my new place in 40 minutes. It was SO fast that nobody knew what to do so they spent the next 2 hours unpacking for me. So for the most part I'm settled. I'm still transitioning work responsibilities so it's like working two jobs right now, which is difficult but I'm managing. I also basically feel like I live in hotel now because my new place is very fancy. Deposited that refund check, made the payment today, and my CC account is back to only four digits. I've also put in a ton of hours at Lands' End so the next paycheck should be pretty respectable.

$5,090.00 (New debt total: 08/2018 $388,835; starting debt 05/2007: 369,884)
With this payment, I've paid 97.3% of my mortgage and 98.6% of my total debt.
