How did we operate in the world of checks before, when it takes a week or more for the recipient to receive and deposit it and then another few days for it to clear your own bank? Ugh!! The HVAC company should have received that payment on the 5th so hopefully they deposited it yesterday.

Cool beans! The check cleared my bank. The balance on the HVAC is now 39% of what it was back in October. I'm aiming to have it paid off by the end of August which is when I also plan to be out of the state for good.

I had this huge post all set, and touched my laptop screen (still adjusting to it being a touch screen) and the whole thing went poof. so, not as much progress as I'd hoped for this update. Feb is typically my tightest $ month every year, and the Discover card absorbed annual pup visits to the vet (with meds) and a couple other pricey one-offs like an unexpected appliance repair. the BCU card took a hit of a milestone car service. hopefully that's it for awhile. after I get myself some breathing room, I'll put a little back into savings to be able to cover this sort of thing without having to use a card. I want that 23% interest rate gone. from goals: this month, I was able to throw $1000 toward this balance. I also reached out to my CPA to find out the status of my tax return, it's been almost 3wks since they confirmed receipt of my scans. that's late for them. according to online calculators, I'll either owe the feds $30 or will get a refund of ~$1100-1300. the bonus payouts are supposedly the last paycheck in March (29th) although I don't know what to expect from that. creditor | original balance 13Feb19 | Mar2019 | PAID OFF! | Chase | $9635.08 | $9474.92 | $160.16 | Discover #1 | $13,119.16 | $12982.44 | $136.72 | AmEx Blue | $13,190.21 | $13031.18 | $159.03 | Discover #2 | $5541.15 | $7930.35 | ($2389.20) | 1st National | $23,516.06 | $23194.95 | $321.11 | BofA #1 | $19,380.84 | $17989.59 | $1391.25 | Citi #1 | $4740.74 | $4642.03 | $98.71 | SMCU | $9281.03 | $9177.98 | $103.05 | Citi #2 | $6523.17 | $5669.36

chiver78- My touch screen laptop still throws me too. I hate when I go to show something to someone on the screen and accidentally touch it!

On time for once! Things are good. I feel like I'm making very good progress on several fronts. I think I'm finally over DEXBF and pretty much ready to date again, so that's new and different and terrifying (LOL). I'm down 7lbs since mid-February because I'm going to the gym at least 5 days a week again, sometimes more and sometimes doubling up with running. My boss encouraged me to apply for a new position that is two roles above mine (I will not get it but he wants HIS boss to see my interest because boss' boss has apparently targeted me for a new role that will be coming up so that will keep me on his radar). I've also been making what I feel like are great strides with my debt repayment (mostly CCs but also plugging away diligently at my student loans). I am aiming to have my CC debt paid off by end of May. I do not want to push it to June even if it will be a little tight. For one, CC#1b's balance transfer 0% interest expires May 1. I am confident this will be paid as I calculated the monthly payment to meet that deadline. I transferred my balance from CC#2 to CC#1a to take advantage of another 0% offer (the monthly interest on the original and the bt offer fee were about the same) this month and I was going to stretch out repayment, but I think I'd just like to knock it out and I think I can do that by the end of May. We shall see! At this rate, I am revising my 2019 goals to have something to look forward to in the later half of the year. March Summary• No new debt (CC) • Less than $2K in credit card debt • Under $18K on the big student loan ($34K to go total) • Under $11K on the car loan balance • Payoff of $2,186.23 this month! 2019 Goals• Under $50K by February 2019 update (met February 2019!!!) • Reach 50% paid off by February 2019 (met January 2019!) • Pay off another student loan by Feb 2019. (met February 2019!!!) • Only have student loans and car loan debt by May 2019. (may have to move to June 2019, but not committing to that change yet.) • Reduce SL#B to <$1K by Dec 31 19. • Reduce Auto loan to <$8K by Dec 31 19. idlechatter (2) 2/15/2019 $46,759.37 (12/13/2017 $71,083.09 C165) Debt | Starting Debt | WIRR Start 12/13/2017 | 3/15/2019 | Difference from WIRR Start | Total Difference | Total % Paid | CC#1a | $0.00 | $0.00 | $975.00 | -$25.00 | -$25.00 | 2.56% | CC#1b | $4,846.31 | $4,846.31 | $900.00 | -$3,946.31 | -$3,946.31 | 81.43% | CC#2 | $1,592.09 | $1,592.09 | $0.00 | -$4,470.49 | -$4,470.49 | 280.79% | SL#A | $3,024.00 | $640.37 | $0.00 | -$640.37 | -$3,024.00 | 100.00% | SL#B | $8,400.00 | $5,465.90 | $4,516.65 | -$949.25 | -$3,883.35 | 46.23% | SL#C | $31,822.91 | $21,424.73 | $17,932.43 | -$3,492.30 | -$13,890.48 | 43.65% | SL#D | $8,400.00 | $5,596.11 | $4,503.95 | -$1,092.16 | -$3,896.05 | 46.38% | SL#E | $11,370.48 | $8,723.05 | $7,143.82 | -$1,579.23 | -$4,226.66 | 37.17% | SL#6 | $6,581.00 | $2,926.35 | $0.00 | -$2,926.35 | -$6,581.00 | 100.00% | Auto | $19,036.80 | $15,864.00 | $10,787.52 | -$5,076.48 | -$8,249.28 | 43.33% | Moto | $4,384.14 | $4,004.18 | $0.00 | -$4,004.18 | -$4,384.14 | 100.00% | Total | $99,457.73 | $71,083.09 | $46,759.37 | -$28,202.12 | -$56,576.76 | 56.89% |

My Financial Peace University coordinator encouraged me to use part of my (fully funded) emergency fund to make a lump sum payment. I chose $5000 because more than that was just too uncomfortable. The only saving I'm doing right now is for my car replacement fund. Unless something drastic happens, I plan to divert all other savings to the mortgage until it's paid. After that, I'll invest and "live like no one else so I can give like no one else."

Update to Race #1, #2, #3 and #4!$1003.11 paid off in the last 2 weeks!!
We leave for vaca in 3 days, yeah!! This should be a nice relaxing weekend before we go. MO is out of town for a state darts tournament. Other then a nail apt., I have no plans and am excited to have the house to myself other then the puppy girls. I've had a cold for about a week so want to rest up before we go and get packing and cleaning finished up.
We got MO's coaching pay and also our Federal Tax Return so that is good to have some nice padding to savings. Not going to disperse anything till we get back from vaca and see where we are at.
We also decided to start putting any extra debt payments we make onto Rental #1 instead of saving for the Mom Loan or putting on Rental #2. We always put on Rental #2 before because it is easy for me to go online and make a payment in seconds. But Rental #1 has the highest interest rate at 4.5% and is our lowest mortgage, so we are going to focus any extra payments there instead.
Savings is over $12K, and should have a big boost when we get back from vaca.
Celebrations for this update:
-$1003.11 paid off in the last 2 weeks!! -Rental #1 went under the next $1000 mark!! -Our Mortgage went under the next $1000 mark!! -Total Debt went under the next $1000 mark for the 9th update in a row!! This is now my longest streak!!

It’s been so quiet lately! How is everyone doing? How are your goals coming along so far in 2019? I’m pleased to announce we found a house. We close in a couple weeks. Unfortunately we don’t take possession right away, that won’t happen for another month or two. The sellers are still looking for their next place. They are renting the house back from us, which will help us pay two mortgages. It also gives us time to do some repairs at our current house, and start the long process of packing. So not looking forward to that! I’m still not sure if we’ll be able to cash flow all of our upcoming expenses (new carpet, movers, home repairs, etc.). Whatever we don’t pay cash for I will add to my race. But I’m hopeful we can make it all work without adding any new debt. Race on!

Well, this month I hit over $40k paid off in less than two years. I'm on track to clear all $43,691 in 2 years and 6 months. I will be slowing down on payments, now that the purchases balance is cleared, from just over $1k/month to around $500/month, and that should let me up my savings.

Minnesotagirl7 Congratulations on finding a house. Good luck packing and cash flowing extra expenses. I am just making slow and steady progress on both races. I am on pace to hit my goals and little behind hitting stretch goal.

Update to Race #2 and #3!$265.48 paid off in the last 2 weeks!!
We are back from vacation. It was super fun, but I never did shake my cold so that was a bit of a downer (luckily alcohol helped me power through!) We did good gambling and didn't lose much at all. Since food, flights and hotel were all comped it was a very cheap vaca, and so nice to get some sun!!
We were able to put a big chunk in savings when we got home, and FB sales continue to go well. We are now almost to $17K in savings, and after I total my sales this next week we should roll right past that milestone!
We decided to have a rummage sale in May (we haven't had one at our house since my Mom was hospitalized for months in late 2017- early 2018). Should be a good turn out to move some more items. The day after the sale we are going to Vegas, this time just me and MO instead of a group. Hotels and food are comped, but we will have to pay for flights this time since there isn't a charter to Vegas, but we found some for just $59 each way, after fees and taxes etc. it was $300 total for both of us there and back.
Not a very exciting update, with how dates lined up we only had payments on our smallest mortgage and the store loan this time. Next update will be great!
Savings is at $16,800, and should keep going up steadily.
Celebrations for this update:

Goals for 2019 are going good so far.
Savings Goals for 2019: *Pay in cash for vacation to Laughlin - Goal Met *Pay medical bills as they come and don't take on any new debt for medical - As of now goal met. *Still have total savings at/above $5000 at the end of the year (Currently at $16,800)
I've also acquired a lot more inventory for my selling which I look at as a type of savings account too. Most items I get I sell within a month or two at most (unless they are seasonal/holiday, in which case they would be held till the next year), but obviously there are some items that take longer to sell, especially if I have a lot of them, and I typically always buy multiples of items if it is an option. This week I sold 30+ items that I just got, so within a week they were sold, but I also sold 3 items that I got in 2014! So it's a constant stream of income and though I don't want items to sit, the more items I have stocked, the more future income I have as well.
Debt Goals for 2019 were just to make minimum payment and not accrue any new debt since we are dealing with all the medical issues. We are exceeding that already, so far for 2019 we have paid $490.37 in extra principle payments to mortgages.
I also had a health goal to lose 40lbs this year, I am currently down 27lbs. Would like to be down 30lbs by the time we go to Vegas in May. Going on vaca and being sick for over 3 weeks now have definitely killed my weightloss and exercise. I did go to the Dr. yesterday finally and got meds so hopefully I will be better soon and can get back to working out.
We also have yard and home maintenance goals for this year, we haven't started on those yet due to weather. But we have started making plans.

UPDATE: steph08 [2] 3/29/2019 $21,208.96 (11/15/2016 $50,382.58 NE139) Bill (Interest Rate) | Start | Previous | Current | Difference | Normal Payoff | Monthly Payment | Big Student Loan (5.08%) | 18,337.66 | 10,295.95 | 8,742.33 | 1,553.62 | November 2022 | $298.59 | Small Student Loan (5.7%) | 4,585.95 | 0.00 | 0.00 | - | November 2022 | $81.81 | Truck (2.49%) | 18,995.89 | 12,858.26 | 12,466.63 | 391.63 | October 2021 | $416.19 | Van (3.6%) | 8,463.08 | 0.00 | 0.00 | - | October 2022 | $154.49 | TOTAL | 50,382.58 | 23,154.21 | 21,208.96 | 1,945.25 | | $951.08 |
Paid this update: $1,945.25 Total Paid: $29,173.62 Percent Paid: 57.90% Lots of movement on the student loan this month. It should be paid off in July - though I might go into August because of vacation spending, etc. I will probably continue to just ride out the truck payment because it is at 2.49%. By the time the student loan is done, it will have a little bit over 2 years left on the loan. I might double up payments to cut that to a year, or I might not.

UPDATE Chicg [2] - 4/2/19,$11,200 (11/7/14, 4217.34 MPT266)
Discover $11,200
The good: down to one card after doing a BT to keep everything at 0%. I'll need to pay off $4k by Oct 31 to pay off my first transfer on Discover so I don't start accumulating interest. That gives me a good goal and I spent last night revising my budget to make it happen (if all else fails I'll have enough in savings to pay it off). Then I have a year to pay the portion I just transferred. Only $1200 progress since last update though, not as much as I wanted after using my bonus but I replenished some savings and paid off a small balance on what is supposed to be my non-racing emergency-ish card that gets paid every month (aka my vet bill card) and treated myself to a new TV (I had a 17 yr old CRT, those huge square TVs that you can't even donate anymore, I paid to have it picked up and recycled, it's too big for me to move down my stairs). So, overall I feel good, have a new budget and goal in place and ready to race.
The not good: I feel like I'm "stuck" and will never get out of cc debt. I also think sometimes I'm too hard on myself, I have so many friends that overextend themselves, are comfortable with credit debt, etc and things just seem to work out for them. Most of the time they're getting bailed out by parents, but still, I feel like I try to play by the rules yet don't have much in life to show for it. I hate that I still rent. I realize not being stressed about finances is more valuable than "things to show" and I'm proud that I'm making life work on my own, but sometimes I need to pout and get it out of my system.
I'm also over a year car-free now! I realize not everyone has that option, and in Chicago I don't NEED a car, but it's certainly more convenient to have one and it is a bit of a sacrifice on my end but it's really helped my finances not having car payment/insurance/gas every month, plus all the other car expenses. Maybe I can think about getting one when my cc debt is paid off. I'll have a big down payment saved by then as well since I haven't stopped contributing to my "car" account (love those old savings accounts from ING and the nicknames for them, I haven't changed any since the ING-CapOne switch).
Minnesota - congrats on finding the new house! Sounds like the lease-back situation worked for you as it buys you some time to get out of the old house. Good luck!
I can't remember what else. Keep it up everyone!

Keep it up everyone! I don't know that owning is something I would consider to be a life goal any more. I've owned two homes, in series, since I was 23. Yes, I was able to sell the first one for more than I owed and hope to be able to say the same for the second but when I look at how much I put into the houses just to ensure they retained value--not even increasing it--I could have taken numerous vacations in the past 20 years. Once I sell and move out of my current house, I'll be looking to rent. In a nice area with great amenities and lots of things that are within walking distance. I'm done with owning. I'm done with yards. I'm done with paying for the upkeep. Granted, in five or ten years, I'll probably be making similar statements about renting and apartments but it'll be a nice break. lol

Cool beans! The check cleared my bank. The balance on the HVAC is now 39% of what it was back in October. I'm aiming to have it paid off by the end of August which is when I also plan to be out of the state for good. And now it's down to 27% of its balance. I'll have one more really large payment towards in come May 1st which coincides with my last full month of GIBill housing stipend. But, then, I'll be able to ramp up my hours at the part-time. It won't replace that income $ for $ by any means but it'll be a nice chunk of extra that I can put towards the HVAC. I've considered getting a HELOC to pay for the various little things that need to happen at the house in preparation for sale: recarpet five rooms, repaint the whole interior, etc. It would be a lower interest rate than using my CC to pay for those things. Though, whichever way I go, the costs incurred would get paid off when I sell the house.

Good Sunday morning WIRR! Your not-so-on-top-of-things co-captain here. I'm sorry for slacking this year. It has been a very difficult season in my life. I haven't posted much going on personally, there just wasn't enough time and I haven't had the bandwidth, but it has affected my abilities to be a good co-captain here and for that I apologize. urdoingit was doing updates up until the end of 2018, and as 2019 started I had hoped things would calm down as I felt like I was recovering somewhat but, sadly, that has not been the case. In October, on my son's birthday, I had my gallbladder removed. It took me over a month to get somewhat close to feeling normal. This day would also be the last time I would see my stepmom NOT in the hospital. Close to the end of October my dad fell and hurt his knee/leg so severely, he was off work for almost 5 months. After his fall, my stepmom went into the hospital and pretty much stayed for the next 3 months. At the end of November, my grandmother passed. She raised me from jr. high on and when I went "home" it was always to her and her house so this was a huge loss for me. However, she was almost 92 years young and had been in assisted living/nursing homes for a few years so this was not a sudden shock. While out of town for the funeral my DH blew the engine in his car. It would cost more to repair than to replace his 11 yo car. So we got a new used car. After returning from the trip I was sick for almost 3 weeks, probably stress related, and got well enough just in time to go back home for Christmas, as originally planned. We got back from that trip the weekend before New Years and spent New Years Day at the hospital with my dad and stepmom. Two weeks later I was sick again for another couple of weeks. At the beginning of February, my stepmom passed. My son and I were at the hospital with her and my dad and we watched as the doctors told him there was nothing more they could do, she was reacting negatively to everything they tried and she was pretty much being kept alive by the machines. He finally signed the DNR and we watched as she slipped to the other side of eternity. This was the most traumatic thing I have witnessed so far in my half-lived life and it knocked me down for a good 2 months. The week after she passed I worked only 1 day. Her funeral wasn't until the following weekend and starting the Sunday after the funeral several people, including my dad, my sisters and I, had the flu. That same weekend my DH went back home, out of the country, for 10 days. It is no fun having the flu and trying to take care of the kid! After being down for that, I spent every weekend with my dad until mid-March when he finally went back to work and on his crazy shift schedule, including working most weekends. So with the losses, the constant illnesses, and several financial setbacks, I'm not back up by any means, but I am functioning better and working through it all. And I finally have time to check in here and work on an update for the group. I haven't had a chance to catch up on the posts from January, but I hope that everyone is racing along and working towards your goals.

I've gone in the wrong direction both in debt payoff and savings due to the craziness of the last several months. I'm praying to end this before my 11th anniversary here. I added the increase to both sides so I get the credit for the extra debt payoff.
