that's precisely it. the proximate goal is stopping the disease in AFRICA. if we don't stop it there, it WILL come here. a travel ban will mean that the only people who will go there are either signing their own death sentence or committed to staying there until the disease is conquered. now what SANE person would do that. in fact, i will take it one step further. even DISCUSSING the travel ban puts the containment effort in serious jeapordy. so, we can have it one way or the other, but not both. we can have our stupid travel ban, and watch the disease possibly spiral out of control without our help, OR we can contain the disease before it reaches plague proportions, but we really can't have both. I disagree with your assessment that we can't restrict a good % of infected Ebola victims from entering our country while at the same time assisting Africa but your certainly entitled to it. i know you do. that's cool. let's see what happens.

still waiting for that link. got any time today? here's another The Kenyan government announced other restrictions, saying it is temporarily suspending entry into Kenya of passengers who have passed through Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia.
Health professionals and Kenyan citizens returning home from those countries will be the exceptions, but will have to undergo extensive screening and close monitoring, said James Macharia, Cabinet secretary of the Kenya Ministry of Health.
The measures come as the World Health Organization warned this week that the magnitude of the Ebola crisis in West Africa is "vastly" underestimated. www.cnn.com/2014/08/16/health/ebola-outbreak/index.html
ok, yeah- this is more like an outright ban that you have been talking about, and i am 100% convinced would not work, for all of the reasons i have stated.

I missed those reasons, what are they again? no, you didn't miss it. you quoted it, and commented on it, and i am too lazy to repeat it. but your clue is Africa, if you need one.

You have not explained why keeping the Ebola infected out (with some exceptions as other countries have done) is incompatible with sending help in.

I guess you missed the quarantine part so you don't get stuck?

Great news.
I have noticed the national media has moved on. Sunday was pretty quiet as far as reporting on Ebola. It was all about politics and the handling of the crisis, rather than potential new cases. Today, pretty much the same. I am shocked that major cable networks were not dockside Sunday morning at the Carnival dock. Then again from what interviews I saw, everyone said it was not a big deal on the boat and Carnival kept all passengers in the loop of what was happening, unlike the Fed's who kept telling America all was good, when it wasn't.
I guess Carnival has learned from past fiascos that were their fault, and the government is still into trying to control the news rather than be proactive

They will be released from quarantine this morning, if not already. they were all released and none of them caught Ebola. And now it looks like the girl friend is having trouble getting someone to rent them an apartment www.businessweek.com/news/2014-10-19/ebola-fears-stymie-home-quest-for-quarantined-in-dallasA new-apartment deal busted up after Troh had already made a deposit, and Dallas’s top county official and Troh’s pastor say people are reluctant to rent to someone who was so close to Ebola.

Now, that's a darned shame. It's not like this woman hasn't been through enough, for pity's sake! I sure hope some decent soul in possession of good, common sense and a place available to rent will step up to the plate.

A woman called my office earlier to tell us that naval oranges from west Africa are going to bring Ebola to this country. I wish I was kidding.... the ignorance all around about this is killing me. I can't read news articles about it anymore because I inevitably read the comments, which make me not want to live on this planet anymore. (I am not minimizing this because it's a serious issue. People just need to CTFD.)

A woman called my office earlier to tell us that naval oranges from west Africa are going to bring Ebola to this country. -faint-I wish I was kidding.... the ignorance all around about this is killing me. I can't read news articles about it anymore because I inevitably read the comments, which make me not want to live on this planet anymore. (I am not minimizing this because it's a serious issue. People just need to CTFD.) I feel the same, cael. Sure, Ebola is something the whole world needs to be concerned about; however, it's not something anyone needs to panic about. What's needed is less ignorance. That can be accomplished by more education and more effort on the part of the public to read and learn. Some of what one reads with regard to the reactions of the general public is off-putting, to say the least.

Another good article from CNN: Fear-bola Once inside your body, Fear-bola attacks the part of the brain responsible for rational thinking. It starts with a low-grade concern about the two health care workers diagnosed with Ebola in Dallas and slowly builds into fear of a widespread epidemic in the United States. Almost half of the people affected by Fear-bola are also "very" or "somewhat" worried they themselves will catch the virus. Fear-bola is an airborne disease that spreads through conversation, entering your brain through your ears. Fear-bola is so contagious that some victims have contracted it by simply seeing images and videos about Ebola. 'Fear-bola' hits epidemic proportions

Ebola is a giant conspiracy on the part of the Apple Growing Conglomerate. They want us to stop eating oranges because they hate the comparisons!

I'm getting really sick of the phrase "an abundance of caution".
Is this a euphemism for "rampant paranoia"?
